Gaming Football Manager 2016

Finally underway with my long-term save. I'm bringing the world's oldest active football club, Sheffield F.C. to the top of world football. They were founded in 1857, so hopefully I can win the Champions League before the club turns 200. Also want the team to have a British core, and will try to keep most of the team homegrown, which will be a challenge once I get higher up the league system. Altrincham is the level I aspire to. I've hardly played FM16 yet, so might be a bumpy start, but hopefully the save will be fun.

If there was ever a football club destined to rot in the lower divisions of English football purely because of their name it's Belper Town.

Got through pre-season, and played the first two games of the regular season yesterday. Won 2-1 the first game in a really messy affair that saw me end the game with only 9 players. One of my substitutions got sent off, and my winger got injured right after I used my third substitute. I used two subs to replace injuries, and one to put a new defender in after the red card. Really frustrating game, but I parked the bus after I went down to 9 men, and nothing happened for the last 15 mins of the game.

The second game was a lot better. 6-1 win over Shaw Lane Aquaforce. Signing right back James Morgan before that game made a huge difference. He is excellent at crossing, and created the chances for 2 of the goals, and was able to overlap the wingers.

-------

Reece Oxford just scored a hat-trick for me from CB

 nice. Was it from set-pieces or is he channelling his inner striker? I still remember Denis Irwin's hat-trick from 1998. That was one from free kick, and two from penalties though.

All three from corners!

I'd want to take over Romulus just for the sole purpose of trying to sign Remus Dănălache.

(Yes, I had to Wikipedia people called Remus to make that joke. Yes, I am proud of myself).

Since you guys seem to have taken a liking to Romulus, here's their team screen:

eQnGjRC.png

Doing quite well so far, second in the league behind my Sheffield on goal difference. Both teams + Leek Town have 2 wins and a draw. No great honours for Romulus yet, but I guess Rome wasn't built in a day.
They've been runners-up twice. Once in the Midland Football Alliance Joe McGorian Memorial Cup (what a catchy name), and once in the BAker-Joiner Midland Football Alliance. Both in 2007.

-----
Also, turns out I have an international player in my squad. Anthony Bardon was just called up for Gibraltar. He debuted in 2014 v Estonia.

Edit: Bardon just scored for Gibraltar. Their only goal in 7 Euro qualifier games so far.

It took me a full replay, and extra time against Winchester City to get there, but I get to go up against FC United in the 2nd qualifying round, which is also the season goal from the board, so I'm okay even if I lose this one. Which I probably will, since they are two division higher up.

Winchester City played a 4-1-2-3 DM Wide, which is a formation I've been struggling to break down.

Edit:
Played the game v FC United now. Thought Sheffield played brilliantly in the first game, and could've nipped it towards the end, but at least I got the tie to a replay against a much stronger side.

In the replay, the teams were more evenly matched, but FC United scored on a set-piece, and I had to go for it towards the end, and conceded a second goal on the counter in stoppage time.

Can't be unhappy too unhappy, but the next round would've been v Farsley Celtic, so I could've made it at least to the 4th Qual round if I had won v FC United.

My current team after finishing 6th last year (2019):

Really overachieved last year as my tactic is really poor and leaks goals constantly. The season before I almost got relegated so to come 6th was a welcome relief after almost losing my job the year prior.

Pretty much an all new defence came in after everyone came in and just basically took my players. Had the clauses activated on Odegaard (44.5 Mil) and Lins my regen striker (47 Mil) which were the main two. Willems went to Barca too and Wimmer to Liverpool. So I had to replace quite a few players.

Dragowski deserves a mention too in goal as I pretty much picked him up by accident and ended up being a fantastic buy for me @ 1.5 Million from my friends PSG. Needed a backup as Hennessey was leaving on a free and my main keeper at the time Pickford got injured and I didnt trust him so I looked for a decent backup and just came across him, glanced at his stats and took the punt for 1.5 Mil. He was loads better than Pickford and instantly became my best keeper, which admittedly didnt take much

Brought in:

Pereira - 6.25 Million (bought him back from Dortmund after selling him for 20, also activated a 3 Million clause in his contract so effectively got him for 3 Million)
Bertrand - Free
Chambers - 13 Million
Nkoulou - 8 Million
Jedvaj - 17.5 Million
Denayer - 12 Million (He's my 1st choice CB with Jedvaj but was injured at the time of the screen)
Eggestein - 20 Million

Also this was the young, 5* rated winger I pinched off PSG for a few million. Loaned him to Roma for a season as he was moaning about not starting over players like Odegaard and Halilovic.

Not sure what to do ATM as I like Bournemouth but would like to move on if something better comes along. Would like a team with better youth facilities. I've asked the board repeatedly but they always refuse to upgrade them. Saying that though they have agreed to upgrade my training facilities recently so theres that...

I've been here 4 full years and the only decent player to come in one of my intakes has been this guy...

Fair enough!

Cracking team being built, btw. I'd be tempted to stick with them for the long haul and see how far you can take them.

Really like my squad yeah. Gonna try out a 4-4-2 system and try and solidify things a little bit. Just tested it out away at West ham there and was pretty successful.

I've started a save with West Brom, which I will almost certainly get bored of (as I always do).

In:

Loic Remy - Chelsea - £9m
Adriano - Barcelona - £2.8m

Out:

Saido Berahino - Chelsea - £27.5m
Craig Gardner - Bournemouth - £2.3m
Stephane Sessegnon - PSV - £3.8m

Going for a 4-4-2 counter-attacking team, which will mostly look like this:

Foster
Dawson Olsson/McAuley Evans Adriano
Pritchard Yacob/Fletcher Morrison Brunt
Rondon/Lambert Remy

Guys super stupid question here. I upgraded my mac to El Capitan version and I can't find the game's root in order to fix the Germany license problem. How do I proceed please ?

I haven't upgraded to El Capitan, but it's the same, isn't it?

Open up finder, go to the bar at the top of the screen and open the "Go" tab, then hold the alt key to show the hidden library folder. Go to it.

From there it's:

Application Support:Steam:Steamapps:Common:Football Manager 2016:data:db, and then locate and then license files are under version number 1630 for 16.3.0, and in the lnc folder

Just hired Villas-Boas as my assistant manager. He immediately quit his job as national coach for Portugal lol.

I hired Jaap Stam as my assistant once. He lasted 2 days before accepting the Dutch U21s job. Twat.

I signed David Beckham as a first team coach for MTK Budapest in FM15. He had been at some League 2 club before joining me in the Hungarian capital. Somehow, I fail to imagine his wife living in Budapest.

Funny ol game, eh? Unrealistic managerial appointments etc.. This is my first save on FM16, third season in with Valencia. Won the league and cup first season. Narrowly missed out on winning the league second season (argh, really struggled away) but won the cup. Not won CL yet so that's the aim this season. Seems to be a race between us and Real this season, am 3 points clear after 17 games.

Ye, my tactic from FM15 is still great on this but only at home. So i've had plenty of hours creating an away tactic that seems to work very well. It's actually two tactics, both 4-1-4-1. One with aggressive pressing for when we're favourites and one park the bus counter against the big teams. Opposition dominates possession and creates many chances but not many on target and rarely clear cut. We seem to create very few chances but what is impressive is that most chances are clear cut or half chances.

Used the FMRTE editor to get rid of that terrible away kit but now my home kit has a blue shirt and i can't fix it lol.

I once simmed to the future and Messi became a youth coach at Norwich straight after he retired at Barca.

Quoting myself so it's more clear what I'm talking about.

I finished off the summer transfer window by signing Felix Passlack and Ravel Morrison on loan, and selling Anichebe to Terek.

The January window just ended, and I've done the following.

In:

Serge Aurier - PSG - Loan
Julian Brandt - Leverkusen - Loan
Seydou Keita - Roma - £350k
Marcus Rashford - Man Utd - Loan
Alex - AC Milan - Loan
Pierre Bengtsson - Mainz - Loan

Out:

James Morrison - Swansea- £5m
Sebastien Pocognoli - Burnley - £500k

Lots of loans coming in, but we're 18th in the league, and something needs to change. I thought it best to try and get in a variety of loans rather than maybe one or two permanent signings. Rashford is nicely versatile, so offers cover for a few positions. We're in the league cup final (to play Liverpool), so that's at least one silver lining in a poor season.

In terms of the summer signings, Remy has scored 14 goals in 28 appearances, so is doing alright. Adriano has an average rating of 6.61 in 21 games, so must do better. Passlack, I only signed for cover, and he's done fine. Ravel's been great though, eight goals and six assists in 21 appearances, he's my highest rated player at 7.30.

Just have to see if I manage to achieve survival now. Considering I've won 4, drawn 7 and lost 12, and have the worst GD in the league (-20), I doubt it.

Gotten to mid-december with Sheffield F.C. now. Lost my recent game against Kidsgrove Athletic (3rd), and then saved a point late against Leek Town (2nd), and hit the crossbar after that, so in the end I threw away a chance to turn my games-in-head into a gap, but I can still take the lead if I play well. Ridiculous amount of games in this league, especially with 4 cup ties going into a replay, so a lot of points dropped over rotation, and also have a lot of injuries to deal with. The board expects me to make the playoff, and I think I should manage that quite nicely. I would prefer to take 1st and go directly up though, as I haven't played that well against the top teams.

As for cups, I'm killing it in the FA Trophy. Knocked out Halesowen Town, and then went on to knock out Lewes (Isthmian Premier League), to make it into the 1st round which is against Vanarama North team Alfreton Town. Just played that game, 4 days late, due to heavy snow, and pulled off an upset. Alfreton Town are only 19th in the league, but they are still two divisions above mine. Surprised there weren't more chances for them. Alfreton was even through on open goal, although at an angle, but hit it outside of the goal on the far side. They almost scored in stoppage time though. Next round is against Scarborough which plays on the same tier as me, so might have a chance at advancing to the third round. The board only expect me to reach the 2nd qualifying round, so needless to say, they absolutely love me right now. The extra prize money is great too.

Knocked out of every other cup, bar the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Challenge Cup which I have yet to enter. It's not a priority to do well in that cup though.

Is this game easy or am I just the best manager in the world? I started with Leeds again, won the Championship in my first season and then finished 4th in the Premier League in my second. Played 18 games in my 3rd season and I'm already 10 points clear?

It's not uncommon to win, but you can make it harder by playing a club with a small transfer budget and not exceeding that budget by spreading player purchases over 4 years or whatever.

Yeah I've stopped doing this now. On my last save I was winning everything with Leeds but the amount of debt was a joke. I won the Champions League and the following summer's transfer budget was £17.

Tough year with Bournemouth there after qualifying for the Europa League.

The Thursday/Sunday games really took their toll on the league form and I ended 15th. Got to the 2nd Knockout round of the EL though which was good (Benfica eliminated us)

Just had some good positive news there though, new stadium and training facilities been green lit.
