Just chucked 137m of talent in the 4th summer, Januzaj, Gnoukouri, Targett, Berahino, all 2nd choice in their positions, barring Januzaj who was constantly on loan.

Wow Rooney is such a twat in this save. Thought he was still looking for a move but no teams offered a transfer for him, so I asked him to talk to clubs if he wants to leave, all of a sudden he isn't interested in a move anymore. Can he please fecking make his mind up? Hope he has still some juice left in him after Martial has joined PSG I could do with a first team striker.

This is half the reason I usually play Classic/Touch/Whatever, if FM is to be believed, nearly every player in Europe is an insane thundercnut.
Like players requesting transfers, then becoming outraged when you try to sell them... "Happy to be leaving" *picks up skirts and flounces out of stadium*

Yeah the interaction module really sucks. I think I'll be playing classic from now on exclusively as well, since the full version barely adds anything I'm really fond of.
Only thing I like about the main version really is the bigger youth intakes, but then it's usually 23 guys with 3 that are any good and 20 to be instantly released, anyway.
Yeah definitely. Always looking at other teams to supplement my youth setup with a bit more quality anyways when I play these home grown saves.
But currently I don't want to really restart this project in classic, already invested too much time in this save game. Maybe if I do a "Manchester United UK&Ireland only" save.
In other news. Like every save PSG is making bids for most of my first team players. They have agreed to pay Darmian's market value so I'll have to let him go as well. Need to find a promising backup for that position now or trust Jones not to pick up a lengthy injury and be a backup for the right FB and CB position.

I ask him what it would take to keep him here and he says he wants to win the CL but I answer that I can't guarantee that, especially not after the team lost 2 important players, so now he wants to leave again. I already know how it will go, someone will make a bid, not offer him the wages he want and he won't sign, after that he will drop wanting to leave again and I'm stuck with a moping player on 300k p/w. Fantastic.

Well I would sell him if any other club would be willing to match his wage demands, he has a couple of injuries in the last two seasons and is pretty shit now so no one is willing to pay the wages he is asking for.
Newcastle is making an offer for him now, let's see if they can agree terms with him.

I'm playing with a maximum of 5 non British and Irish in my first team.
I could just change to a non-winger formation, all of Martial, Memphis, Rashford and Bale tbh, can be fine strikers, most great behind the striker.
Memphis is a cracking striker, despite not liking him in real life he is in my team on this game a lot. Martial though, he is my main striker and has achieved nearly a goal a game ratio for me over many seasons but his rating has never been over 2 stars as a 'useful player'!
On mine Martial is rated 4.5 stars, along with Pogba. It's weird though, he jumped straight from 2 to 4 for a season and now 4.5.
So I decided to go for a complete clear out.
Out: Martial, Schweinsteiger, Rooney and Mata. As well as a lot of deadwood reserve and youth players.

That's where I'm most worried at the moment, no great English regen CB's have popped up yet, Smalling 29, Shawcross 30(though Stones has overtaken him now). I didn't want to sell Mata or Martial but I made some rules for myself that would make it a bit harder to build a super team which means I have to let players go who can't become homegrown for Manchester United if their market value is met or their contract runs out.
Still I was on the verge of breaking my rules for Martial since I didn't want to see him go, especially after scoring over 20 goals in the league for me last season.
Eggestein has been rather good though, he scored 4 goals in my first 4 league games of the season, maybe he is now ready to make the step um, still rated 5 stars from my scouts which was kinda surprising for me as I thought he would definitely drop a couple of stars when he didn't develop all that well.

The results were also quite promising, especially considering the team I'm currently fielding, we beat Arsenal 4-2 and Liverpool 3-0 so two big games won quite comfortably. Overall 3 wins and one draw so far as well as a 2-1 CSC final win against Tottenham.

Yup, and it's always the most random players, too, like Darmian as you say.
The rating system is completely fecked. My full backs are posting 8.5 ratings consistently across every season. I think eight out of the nine podium finishers for fans favourite player in the past three seasons, which seems to be purely based on average ratings, have been full backs. They're always nominated for the Ballon d'Or too. I have no idea why, but in fairness to my backs, they are racking up a decent amount of assists from crosses, but for the most part they complete a lot of passes and do a lot of running and tackling. If I had to guess, all these minor positive influences on the game accumulate into what the game sees as near perfect performances on a freakishly consistent basis.
Yup, Eric Dier is probably the best player in Europe in my save as he's fast, a defensive monster and can whip in good crosses. I'd be shocked if he averaged less than 8.5 a season.

I just ignore star ratings at all costs. I take them off all the screens. They just fluctuate wildly and are pointless. Looking about in the live editor, they do not seem to reflect PA or CA anyway.
Chances are, your players aren't being downgraded. Their attributes and CA/PA will be the same, or improving. It'll just be the AI deciding that your staff are crackpots. The star rating needs binning or overhauled, IMO.

How on earth do you guys get the 4231 with 2 cms to work? I end up conceding too many goals.
Yeah, that probably makes sense. The problem is theres just no other metric for gauging PA and whilst I understand that potential is an inexact science in real football its just utter bollocks that absolutely everyone changes their opinion at the drop of a hat.
It really is bollocks. I could be wrong, but I think FM just likes your staff to get it wrong a fair chunk of the time. Even when I've got really good scouts, they still recommend the occasional crappy, useless player who fits none of the criteria I set. Even if I have a good assistant manager, if I ask him to arrange training schedules, he'll put 4 coaches on goalkeepers, my fitness coaches on shooting and nobody on tactics.
Backroom meetings are a joke. "I think such-and-such should be taken off penalty taking duties". Such-and-such has 18 for penalties and 17 for finishing. "I think your first choice full backs shouldn't be taking throw ins". They're full backs. Full backs always take throw ins.
Backroom staff can suck it. I'll do it all myself.
Their internationals need upgrading. Managing Uruguay in 2018 WC, Morocco knocked Brazil and Mexico out of Group stage and Spain in round of 16!

I think it works best if both CM's are in roles that hold position a lot.
They want that "realism" where you're unsure of players I guess, I think scouting and coach reports were far, far fecking better in 14, where you'd get a youngster with potential and they'd give a rough estimate of how good they might get, "potential to be a leading premier league player" or whatever, now you don't get that until they're 23+. It was brilliant in the low leagues getting a player in an intake or something and thinking he could play well beyond your level. You'd get a rough idea of who you'd be able to build around, or sell for lots of money if need be.
International football is shit all round, all my players come back fecked for their next club match, uaually half injured. If I am managing a national side, I can't rest players between fixtures, so if my starters aren't needed for a 3rd group game in the WC, even if I play the backups, my starters stay langered even if they have a few days between the next match they play. Fecking stupid.

Although, they do vary also on club reputation. They vary also depending on how much gametime a player is getting. If its not enough he will be downgraded and will be upgraded as he gets minutes on pitch
Lower league management will be the death of me lol. Took 3 seasons to get Wealdstone FC up to the conference national(i picked the team with the smallest stadium).
Now in the current league i cannot keep a lead. If I'm up by 1 with 10 mins to go it guaranteed that i will lose lol. Always off crosses. 99% of my goals conceded are from crosses.
