Gaming Football Manager 2016

Downsides are the huge blocks in the tactics screen, the 3D match engine and the character creation is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen, it's hilarious. Can't see myself leaving my house for anything other work any time soon!

It is grotesque. The 3d rendering of my guy looks like he has jaundice. I preferred just being able to upload a photo. It's better than the yellow coloured ogre that keeps popping up.

The regen players look more freakish than usual this time as well.

Was this enough to win the league? In my first two seasons City have been pretty insane, winning the league with 93 points in my first season and pushing me to 92 points in my second season to win the title. It seems to be impossible at this stage to win the league with less then 90 points but I have seen other screen shots from people where they ended up winning the PL in the first season with 78 points. 78 points wouldn't even have gotten you 4th place in my two seasons so far, it's kinda strange that some players seem to experience a much more balanced league picture than I do.

Nope I've not got close really, my save has been the same as yours, City and Chelsea sprinting to over 90 points. Not only that, Arsenal and Spurs also get to about 80, leaving it very tough to even qualify for the CL

Yeah I am, I started at FC United and finished 18th but achieved all of my targets set by the board but refused to enter contract talks and Wrexham from the conference came knocking in pre season, I'm currently undefeated after 9 games, but need a striker, can youngs play up on his own?
Yeah, I played him as an advanced forward all alone and he literally got me promoted all on his own.

Dean Henderson from United ended up as a free transfer, and is amazing aswell. You can basically pick any of these players from my Salford-side, and they are very, very good at that level (if available in your game, that is).

Also, Youngs stats in his first season at my club;

Apps: 52
Goals: 44
Pens: 1(1)
Assist: 14
PoM: 13
Avg Rating: 7.45

Pretty decent

I have Sam Beasant in goal and he has been boss so far, my budgets are predictably tiny too so I need to wait to Jan to look for loans, defensively we're good but we're literally winning games 1-0 or 2-0 at a push.

So my manager decided to grow what I can only describe as a "paedo" moustache randomly in the middle of a season (I didn't pick him one at the start).

Has anyone had this happen yet?, He's actually shaved it now, i'd imagine down to rival fans singing Ned Flanders songs at him.

I'm not sure to be honest but I suppose that would make sense with the Movember campaign that they sponsor. Nice little touch if so. Any one in November that can check their manager / possibly regens too?

If not my guy has a penchant for sexual predator styled facial hair.
Yeah, I'm in November now and this horrible facial hair is growing on my guy as well

Yeah same for me so far. 90 points seems to be required for winning the title, 80+ points for getting into top 4. Only this seasons it seems to be a much closer race with a lot of the top teams sitting very close together in the top 5 by the end of February.

First Football Manager I've bought in years and I'm feckin hooked already. Bought it earlier and spent about 4 hours playing and I've only played 3 preseason games. It's just so in depth with so many things to tweak. Picked United and my first friendly was against Oxford United. Scraped a 3-2 win with them scoring an own goal in the last minute. The players were perplexed at my team talk apparently, could obviously tell I'm a noob who hasn't played in years. Performances have improved in my other friendlies though.

How long does it take you guys to get through a full season? Do you have to keep tweaking everything or is it once you get your team into a rhythm you have to make only small changes to tactics and training? Started with 4-4-2 but nobody seems to be suited to left and right wing in that formation. Think I'll go with 4-3-3 as the wingers seem to be suited further up the pitch.

It depends on how much time I have to play. I usually start to blitz through seasons once I've been in a club after 3 seasons and I've got a core team playing the way I want.

If you're playing United you don't have to worry about wingers playing too deep in a 4-4-2. They will still attack high to the byline if you have them on attacking duties. But it's always good to take the time to set your 3 default tactics very very early in pre-season as well as player roles :) I also tend to spend a lot of time mulling over the right transfer to make at the start of the season; I don't rush it.

Chelsea's team are knackered. Hazard, Fabregas, Ivanovic, Matic, Pedro, Baba and Costa are all jaded and in need of a rest. So obviously they just beat me 4-1 with all 4 of their goals coming in the last 10 minutes.

FM at it's finest.

trying to decide if I should take the plunge now, or wait a while. Hmm. I do hate waiting...

Having read the thread, would people say it's mostly a positive experience? I know there's always the frustrating FM moments that are almost a trademark of every game, but is it enjoyable enough over 15 to go for?

That create your own manager thing is literally the most pointless addition to the game ever, has anybody even seen their face on the sidelines yet?

I hated 15 to be honest and even though i bought it i ended up playing another year of 14, but i'm really enjoying 16, still a few bugs here and there though, for example i really struggled at FC United but beat the drop and managed to achieve all i was asked to but at one point i was 'one game from the sack' then i got offered the Wrexham job and have started with 9 games undefeated and the last news headline I saw said that with the run of good form we were on, Wrexham fans can happily forget that I was one game from the sack in 2016.....why should they remember? it wasn't with their club!

A week after the Chelsea defeat with their knackered team. They play City at home with again their full strength team out who are all still knackered, they lose 1-0 and those players all mostly play the full 90. That's on the 26th of December, I play Watford the same day and will rest my first choice team as we play Chelsea again at home on the 28th. 2 days after their knackered team played a full 90 against City. I've a feeling I'm going to be quite angry after this match.

 those fickle Wrexham fans.

I didn't enjoy 15 as much as 14, but still sank more hours into it that my wife would find acceptable :) think I'll jump into it. Really want to start a United save and focus on the youth and only signing HG players. Although I'm sure I'll cave and splash hundreds of millions instead :D

Since I changed to 1 striker formation Martial is absolutely rocking it as an CF-S. 20 goals and 6 assists in 21 leagues games so far. With Eriksen, Óliver and Bernardo Silva behind him he also gets the creative support that he needs to score loads of goals, all three have been absolutely amazing so far and I'm not missing Memphis one bit. Chelsea are supposedly after him, if they make me a good offer he is theirs and I try to bring in Carvalho from Bayern in the summer, he would make the perfect Anchor Man for my formation.

Also thinking about selling Januzaj, who has been disappointing through large parts of my save game, and bringing in another left footed attacking midfielder. Going to get some scouting done before the season is over. Maybe I'll find a great regen as a backup for Silva.

I want to manage a 2nd division team in Spain, I'm thinking Real Zaragoza, and just fill them with lots of young high potential teenagers and really build the team up slowly.

Breaks my heart every time I have to sack Giggs. But he just isn't a very good assistant manager.

Everyone sacks Giggs. Even the AI. In my save, Simeone punted Giggs as soon as he came in, midway through the season after LvG was sacked. Giggs went on to manage Nottingham Forest, who were 8th in December when he took the job. He got them relegated.

He's still in a job though. He'll march them on in League 1.

Sentiment has no place in Football Manager. That's the beauty of it. Rooney hasn't seen a game for Man Utd in my saves since he handed a transfer request in real life. No room for emotion. Pragmatism only.

Truth.

Except for Evra. I always found time and space in my team for Evra in United saves. Even when his body was destroyed, and his pace and dribbling dipped into single figures, he got games.

Any backroom staff saying "Patrice Evra has the wrong squad status" would be sacked as well. Because it was LIES!

Does anyone take the backroom advice on board regarding the opposition? I always seem to go what they are saying (literally want me to play route one football in every game, stick to positions), now at the start with Man Utd I had great results but lately nothing seems to be working and I don't create any chances home or away. I'm playing a 4-2-3-1 wide but nothing works with going direct, keeping possession, higher tempo, lower etc.

Just driving me nuts

That last paragraph. That's me with Ronaldo every year

I can't bring myself to sack Giggs, but I fear I'm going to have to as he's a bit cack really. Plus his advice during matches is often quite mental.

Anyone noticing higher rates of injuries among players who aren't in top condition? I'm rotating so much more in this one.
I am rotating all the time and I'm getting constant injuries :(. Carrick, BFS, Lingard, Mata and Rooney all out for between 2 weeks and 2 months. I never set training intensity above average, so I don't know if I'm just unlucky or what.

Look at how they got injured. Was it in match or training? Was it a recurring injury? etc

Managing Wrexham is quite fun, we're 4th in the conference and going steadily.

I don't think any non believer can understand the joy of being 1-0 at home to Top of league 1 Barnsley at half time in the FA Cup 1st round and turning it around to win 2-1, unbelievable Jeff.

I've managed to reduce injuries somewhat even though I've set training intensity to High. Maybe I'm riding my luck given that my Dortmund squad doesn't have great depth a couple of important positions. Still getting the occasional twisted knee during the match but for the most part the knocks have been things like bruised shins, thighs and the like which my players have shaken off by the end of the 90.

I never ever listen to them

This one looks good based on all the posts here. Had promised myself not to buy this one as I got bored of 15 in a month but this seems worthwhile

I'm gonna give it a week and see if they do anything for the Black Friday deals on steam. Not getting my hopes up, mind, but don't have time to play right now anyway.

I'm a fan of the in-game engine in this one.

It actually feels a bit more realistic and less predictable. I have started my first season in the Premiership with Brighton who I got promoted. 8 games in and I'm top and I really have no idea how as my team aren't that good on paper. I have had a relatively easy run of fixtures (besides city who I drew with after parking the bus). I am fully expecting the fall to happen soon as I have most of the big boys to play in a row. I highly recommend Predrag Rajkovic as a goalkeeper, he's 20 (second season), cost me £3mil but he looks set to become a true world beater and he pulls off remarkable save after remarkable save. Also Thomas Lemar from Monaco who's a young AMC with tons of potential, Tomer Hemed (striker) stills does a good job up front also.
