Gaming Football Manager 2016

Ok, here's the situation:

I've been with Salford for 2 1/2 seasons now. I gained promotion to Vanarama Conference in my first (half)season, managed to stay in the division in my first season and now I won the league by a landslide, gaining promotion to Sky Bet League 2 in my 2nd season. However, the board are being total dicks. My wage/transfer budget is £100 more after being promoted to League 2, despite me turning the entire financial structure of the club around and making loads in profits. They refuse to upgrade any of my facilities, refuse to change the status from Semi-Pro to Pro and reject every single proposal. Except coaches, I got tons of coaches now

Now, Bayern want an interview. I really wanted to bring Salford up to the PL, but with an average attendance of 500 and a board full of cocks, I dont know how much fun it'll be. Suggestions?

Quit, they don't deserve you

Quit, they don't deserve you
Yeah, feck them.

They called me into a meeting after taking the interview with Bayern, and I told them that I would stay only if they got me a parent feeder club. They said, once again, no. I told them to suck a dick, and agreed to join Bayern at the end of the season.

Edit: About 2 hours after the season ended, I rejected another contract discussion. Then the club gained a Pro-status, and the clubs "mega-rich" owner decided to stop all funding to the club  fecking shambles of a club.

Andrija Zivkovic looks even better in this one. Unfortunately I can't get him to my Hull side and Madrid are in for him for around £4m.

So despite my moaning I've ended up winning the league with United first season, beating Arsenal by 3 points. I sold Rooney to Arsenal for 40m and bought Harry Kane and Aymeric Laporte. In January I bought Christian Eriksen and he changed the game and gave me that extra boost needed to win the league.

I got knocked out by Lazio in the Champions League qualifier so didn't even make that, but I've made it to the Europa League Final, playing Bayern though. I won the League Cup too. Team currently looks like this:

de Gea
Darmian - Smalling - Laporte - Shaw
Carrick - Schneiderlin
Mata - Eriksen - Memphis
Kane

I switch Martial and Kane regularly. Martial has 20 goals this season and Kane has 19. I think I'll invest in a top midfielder and winger in the summer. Schweinsteiger never seems to play well for me.

Beat Bayern 1 - 0 in the final of Europa League thanks to Harry Kane. I've completed some sort of shitty treble.

I started a game the other week as Brighton. Had quite an odd season, started with patchy, inconsistent form (win - lose - draw - repeat, kind of thing). Eventually I got into my stride and notched up 10 straight wins with my counter attacking football (all of these were hard fought victories and the win margin was rarely by more than a goal). So from January up until the end of the season I was top in the championship, towards the latter part of the season my team randomly starting playing like rent boys and failed to win for 10 games (drawing most and losing a few). On the final day of the season I went a goal down to Nott'm Forest, elsewhere the 2nd and 3rd place team were winning which would mean that not only would I not win the league but I wouldn't even get automatically promoted. Thankfully, after a half time bollocking, my team turned it around, I won 3-1 and I won the league by a single point.

Tomer Hemed who is already at Brighton is a beast for Championship teams, I played him up top, alone for most of the season and he got around 30 goals. As is Elvis Man Utd on the wing.

One thing that pissed me off was how the board reduced the transfer funds available to me from selling players from 85% to 15%. I bought Youan Gourcuff on a free transfer in January (he was without a club), but he was injury prone so managed to flog him on for £18.5 mil profit. Probably, amongst my best FM profits but the board dicked me over and gave me like £1.4 mil out of that to use. He got injured pretty much every game so it made sense to get rid regardless of cash.

I'm up in the Premiership now and expecting a battering as my team looks ropey and my odds of winning the league are at 2000-1 according to the media - TBC!

So just hold of this and started a Dortmund save. Currently ravaged by injuries at centre back and Ginter is unavailable for no given reason. I couldn't even register him. Anyone know of this problem? Is it a glitch or something?

He isn't the only player with this problem too.

Hmm I'm on a Dortmund save and I don't have that issue.

I did the create-a-club mode so maybe that might have affected it.

If anyone is playing with a League 2 / Conference-side, I would highly recommend Tom Youngs. Bagged me 41 league goals for my Salford-side :D

Have you started the season yet, or are you still in the pre-season training camp? If it's the latter, I had the same problem with Bayern, because the Bundesliga pre-season starts before the start-point of a new game, so the AI had decided who to include in the training camp, and it left off 2 or 3 players who I couldn't play during the training camp. I was able to register and play them once the training camp ended.

If you're beyond the training camp, then it sounds like a glitch. It could possibly be fixed by the Live Editor, as there's an option to allow player registrations at any time.

The live editor is great fun for a few quid anyway. It's a laugh to create carnage in a loaded league you're not managing in.

3 of my players are out for 3-4 weeks after straining a stomach muscle in the same training session

Hmmmm...

I tried to sign up two 16-year olds who looked like brilliant prospects, though the clubs rejected offers for £40m ++. I wanted to see how high I had to go, and when they finally accepted bids for £60m, the players refused to talk to me.

I added both as transfer targets as I wanted to keep track of them, and my DoF bought both for less than £10m a few days afterwards

Edit: Holy shit, I now got two 16 year olds on about £70k in wages  EACH

Lucky you. My DoF does nothing, he can't even flog players. To think I was proud of my genius idea of signing him from Southampton.

Speaking of people who do nothing, my assistant manager and his brilliant advice. "We're winning most of the headers, we should get more crosses in." We're winning them in our own box you tool! "We should play more long balls forward." To our 5'8'' striker?!

Just beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates. Great counter attacking display and BFS turns up with an 88th minute winner. Laptop crashes afterwards. No bloody luck.

Got bored of Dortmund already.. signed Berradi and Tielemans, I have that Serbian right winger whose name escapes me but I just can't be bothered to get into the second season. Might try a Valencia save or something though. I always prefer managing in Spain than anywhere else.

After a few seasons on previous versions, I would give a couple of teams in my league bundles of cash. Would make the league more competitive. I recall Villarreal having Pogba and Gundogan in midfield with an attack of Draxler, Lukaku and De Bruyne. They never won the league but always put up a very good fight. Kept the save going for a few seasons longer than usual.

Alright, so my first two days of honeymoon period at Bayern are officially over:

Draxler wants out, and gets sold.
Boateng hates me, and gets the squad to hate me because I sold a good player.
De Bruyne is upset because of this, and wants to be sold.
I refuse.
The squad hates me because I wont let him go.
I sell him.
The squad hates me for selling him.

I just keep selling off the feckers who complain.

Moyes is the Champion

He got both Benitez and Enrique sacked by beating them both to the title. Hero.

I won the quadruple (Bundesliga, Champions League, Pokal and DFB Supercup) with Bayern in the first season, despite flogging Robben, Lewandowski, Alonso, and binning Ribery into the reserves, because I just can't sell him. I brought in Bellerin as part of the Lewandowski to Arsenal deal, then I triggered Griezmann's clause in deadline day. Because why not? I made the Coman deal permanent by October, because he was on fire, and his value kept going up and up. £22m sealed it.

Pissed the league. No losses, and only conceded 11 goals. Averaged 3 goals a game.

Thomas Muller is ridiculous. Played every game. Never got injured. Never too tired to play the next game. Covers a stupid amount of ground. Scored 51 goals and 29 assists in 54 games. His value has gone up to £68m. Probably the only player who hasn't pissed and moaned for a new contract.

Can't decide on defending the CL, or trying to land the vacant AC Milan job and rebuilding them into an elite force again. They finished bottom half of the league and now the managers post is open. United are doing shite as well. Simeone will probably get the bunt soon enough. I haven't done a United save on FM in years.

So I decided to go back to a 4-2-3-1, mainly because I wasn't happy how I couldn't keep any possession against the stronger teams, this time I went with 1 DM and 1 CM though and I feel it has done my defensive stability loads of good. Barely ever allow any chances anymore and attacking wise I feel overlapping FBs are really great in FM16. The only thing that seems to be a problem for me atm is the fact that Memphis is really no good in FM16. In FM15 he was a total beast but in FM16 I can't get a string of decent performances out of him, seems like he got really nerfed hard. Thinking about breaking the bank for Hazard in the summer, he is 27 though which isn't really old but spending 100M+ on a player that might only have 4 more years on teh top of his game left seems a bit crazy but hey we are swimming in money at this point, so why not?

That's the exact formation I'm using. Great defensively but combination of Memphis being a bit cack and my strikers not being good has hindered my progress.

I replayed my game against Arsenal after my laptop crash. This time instead of winning 2-1 with BFS scoring in the last 5 minutes, he got injured in the first 5 minutes, is out for 3 weeks now. Instead of Berardi scoring a belter from the edge of the box he got sent off in the last minute. Instead of winning 2-1 we lost 1-0. fecking game!!

Edit: It's just crashed again at the same bit. Have to play that whole week leading up to the match again.

Well that sucks. So far FM16 has been really stable for me. Martial is an absolute beast so far and I just decided to bring in Erikson as he can play on all three AM positions where my squad was a bit thin, especially after Januzaj and Rooney got injured. I plan of replacing Memphis with him in the long run I think, as he suits the role I want from my right winger better than Memphis and has not shoot from distance PPM.

Btw I can't recommend the Italian CB duo Rugani and Romagnoli high enough, they are absolute class players, fairly fast and good on the ball as well. They are 23 and 22 now and already ahead of Smalling and Rojo in my squad. I only recently fielded an entire Italian back four with Florenzi -- Rugani -- Romagnoli -- Darmian. Usually Shaw gets the left spot but he is a bit injury prone and has already played the most games of all my players so far.

Oh and I can't recommend Óliver Torres high enough. So great as AMC or wide play maker, totally love the lad.

Playing Man City in CL and Otamendi is some sort of super beast. Making up 40yards in the space of 2 seconds to catch Martial who was on sight for a goal

Btw is anyone else getting super stupid bids from other teams? Chelsea just bid 28M for Kane who is currently valued 35M, I don't want to sell so I demanded 60M, instantly redrawn. Wtf? They didn't even negotiate.

Yeah that's super annoying. Martial has acceleration 18 and pace 17 by now but I really can't count the amount of times even slow defenders just run after him and catch him easily. It's so stupid.

What roles have you given your 3 behind the striker? I've gone for 2 inside forwards and an advanced playmaker. Just recently switched Memphis from an Attack to a Support role to see if that helps him, though I doubt it because he lacks vision. Thinking about going in for Eriksen in the summer because our set plays are utter wank, the delivery is terrible. If I got a big bid for Mata I'd let him go as he's not been great. Might give Meyer a go on the left actually now Mata is back from injury.

Rugani looks like he's going to be a beast in my game too, I've looked at him but I'm fairly set for CB's with Mustafi, Smalling, Jones and McNair. Although I'd let Jones go if I got a decent offer and could get more home grown players in, I'm a bit light on them.

My Setup currently looks like this:

DDG (GK - D)
Florenzi (FB - A) -- Rugani (CD - C) -- Romagnoli (CD - D) -- Shaw (FB - A)
Ajer (A - D) ------------------
-----------------
Pogba (B2B)
B. Silva (IF - S) -- Oliver (AP - A) -- Eriksen (AP - S)
Martial (CF -S)
Oliver and Eriksen are now put on swap, because both can pretty much play both positions and I want them to interchange a bit just in case they are getting man marked. If Memphis plays he gets to be an IF-A and Shaw is swaped back to FB-S. For tough away games I also go with Darmian over Florenzi, since he is defensively stronger. It's not perfect yet but Eriksen's first game was promising and he got an assist and scored a goal.

Gladly I don't have a home grown player rule as I play FM touch, otherwise I think I would be really fecked. :D

Also funny how many Italians I have in my team, never had more than one in any FM before, I think and now I have 4 of them, they just have a load of class defenders.

The match engine is so fundamentally flawed, i'm not even surprised at this point. Certain players are ridiculously unplayable.

Right, what the hell is with this game
Maybe because we started through the beta?

Anyway I am Southampton (17th), My friends are Everton (18th) and Liverpool (15th) after 27 games.
We have all been sacked within the last few games and had to rejoin.

I wouldn't ever consider us bad at these games. We've all, always consistently won stuff on older games (We skipped FM15), but on this one, nothing seems to go right, down to the pathetic way we concede goals.

For me, my team is:
Steklenberg - Cedric (FB - S) Fonte (CD - D) Balanta (CD - D) Bertrand (FB - S) Wanyama (CDM - BWM D) Romero (CM - S) Clasie (CM - AP S) Mane (RW - W A) Tadic (LW - AP S) Pelle (S - TM A)

I've tried a few things, but normally I play:
Normal line, Mixed passing, Retain possession, Cross Often, Balanced mentality, close down sometimes.

I dont know what it is. I rarely get highlights, and when I do, it always seems that my wingers get shots that their keeper parries across the goal and my other winger comes in and hits it but the keeper always manages to get to it.

The gap between my whole team always seems massive, and its as if my players don't care to close them down at all (When I did close down more, They used to pass it around me )

I dunno, it just seems so weird that all 3 of us are struggling so bad

After the league having been a two horse race, between us and City, for the last two seasons this season seems much tighter. It's the end of February and I'm first but only with a 7 point lead to place 5 where Chelsea currently is.

Does anyone else imagine fictitious Redcafe threads on their performance in FM or is it just me? For instance after winning the CL three times in a row I come across Real Madrid in the quarter finals the next year. They beat me 6-3 at the Bernabeu through 2 or 3 crappy corner goals, then at Old Trafford we pummel them for 90 mins but can only manage a 3-1 win so go out 7-6 on aggregate. I'm there imagining threads like 'Proud of the boys tonight'and 'Still the best team in the world'. Am I the only weirdo that does this?

That's exactly what it was :) Just started off the season against Leverkusen and won 3-1!

Beyond pissed off with it now. 16th placed West Ham just beat me 1-0 at home again, the same match I rage quit in earlier went the exact same way. Battered them but couldn't score and they knicked one with one of their 3 shots. 17th placed Southampton I also batter, missing chance after chance after chance. Then I get a player sent off and another injured reducing me to 10 men. Memphis missed 5 sitters in the opening 25 minutes, he was rated 6.3 at half time. I've lost patience with him, if Lingard was fit he'd be benched.

First Football Manager I've bought in years and I'm feckin hooked already. Bought it earlier and spent about 4 hours playing and I've only played 3 preseason games. It's just so in depth with so many things to tweak. Picked United and my first friendly was against Oxford United. Scraped a 3-2 win with them scoring an own goal in the last minute. The players were perplexed at my team talk apparently, could obviously tell I'm a noob who hasn't played in years. Performances have improved in my other friendlies though.

How long does it take you guys to get through a full season? Do you have to keep tweaking everything or is it once you get your team into a rhythm you have to make only small changes to tactics and training? Started with 4-4-2 but nobody seems to be suited to left and right wing in that formation. Think I'll go with 4-3-3 as the wingers seem to be suited further up the pitch.

Downsides are the huge blocks in the tactics screen, the 3D match engine and the character creation is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen, it's hilarious. Can't see myself leaving my house for anything other work any time soon!

If anyone is playing with a League 2 / Conference-side, I would highly recommend Tom Youngs. Bagged me 41 league goals for my Salford-side :D
Yeah I am, I started at FC United and finished 18th but achieved all of my targets set by the board but refused to enter contract talks and Wrexham from the conference came knocking in pre season, I'm currently undefeated after 9 games, but need a striker, can youngs play up on his own?
