Fonte(Who hasn't settled in England despite being club captain and been at the club for 7 years? )
Think of it as an excuse(a bad one), as to why they don't want to play for you, like that fecker irl who ditched Preston as he was homesick for someplace in the south of England, and days later signed for Man City.

Ruben Garcia (LM/W) is pretty good on this. No idea what he's like IRL, made a profit out of selling Sarabia (another Spanish LW) and signing him at start of 2nd season with Swansea and he's been a big upgrade, even though Sarabia was also pretty good. 16 goals in the league, almost beat Bony to my top scorer (albeit the big man went on a massive drought the last 15 games).
Pione Sisto is also fantastic on the other flank. Assist machine.

Anyone ever sign Juan Bernat on this? LBs my only still average area and he's transfer listed, but for 24m. Bit gutted Courtois is available too, having splashed out on Oblak previous summer but with a 50% sell on clause in order to afford him (assumed he be the best GK available for the foreseeable future). Cant be having both of them.

I will probably sell him at the end of the season anyway, brought in Fosu-Mensah so that should sure up my defense for now, hopefully I can find a replacement for fonte in the summer then.

Just had a January splurge on Stones (£20m) and Mitrovic (£6m). Both took me to the cleaners for wages, especially Stones, but properly worth it. I've now got Barkley, Stones, Wisdom and Moore as young English players in my squad (always seems hard on FM as they never make good English regens... Stones is still the youngest player in the national team squad at 24!). Would love to add Patrick Roberts but he'd cost £40m+ easy.

Thought I'd recommend the following players, anyone else used them? Vaclav Cerny, Lucas Boye and Paco Alcacer? Had all three at some point recently and they've all been fantastic, Cerny especially. What are they like on your games?

Cerny looks great and is available on a free in my save, but my squad is too big already.

Also, I had a lad on loan from Madrid last season, natural ST/RW accomplished AM/MR, world class potential, and nailed it in my tactics. Available, on a free, baffling.....

Yeah he seems like a decent, cheap pickup. Originally bought him to play at ST as a false 9 but turns out none of my coaches think he's good there, so instead I've shifted him out to AML as in inside forward... the result is devastating. I think Tello is pissed that he's been dropped but quite frankly I can't do anything right now

Some of the pickups you can get with a little bit of searching are really good. I always have a search around the big clubs to see who's free. Isco at Real is another one who could leave cheap on mine... strange

Feck what your coaches think. They usually make daft decisions on player roles.

Like telling me Kingsley Coman should be a winger on the left, despite sucking at crossing and being right footed.

He's another one I was looking at buying! I opted for Cerny instead. My coaches also said he was crap at everything but AMC so I left him be. I think my coaches said he was even better at MC than AML

I bought him to retrain as a MC, but then changed my tactics, and retrained him again as an AML. He's also quite a smashing striker, in a DLF, False 9 or my fave Trequartista role.

Actually having a fairly bad season, endproduct-wise, but teams are marking the crap out of him, leaving my right winger to score for fun. Noticed they just started saying he's best as in Inside Forward.

How does one make a tactic? Seriously I'm clueless. I think I'll just give up at this point, I don't want to download a tactic and I simply cannot create a semi-decent one. Bah.

Trial and error combined with an idea of how you want your team to play.

What team are you, what formations do you like, what style of football do you like?

Tried lots of teams, now I'm playing with United. I want to be able to dominate games, I can scrape by a 2-1 win at home against Spurs, create a few more chances, have a bit more possession but the game still could have gone either way with a bit of bad luck. And most games look like this, I've been playing as Milan and Marseille with pretty much the same results, a top 4 team maybe challenging for the title. I usually end up playing 4-2-3-1 even though it's clearly not working for me. Control/fluid is what I use the most, and recently I've tried to make more individual roles for players and cutting down on team instructions, but I can't seem to get a good balance in the team no matter how much I change things.

So to sum up, I'm clueless as how to set my team up in a way that makes me dominate games, or to even play attractive football. Some games are horrendous and I never create enough CCCs in a game.

Right! I see a few problems here.

In game, for some reason 4-2-3-1 is very shaky, especially defensively. AMR/L's don't work hard enough. For that kind of shape, you're far better off with 4-4-1-1.
Combine this with Control, which is surprisingly given it's description, a bit adventurous. Not a good combo with 4-2-3-1.
Fluid makes players not stick to their roles so much so added with more individualistic roles, can leave a real mess.

@Meller This is easily my favourite formation for controlling games. With United Blind is a fantastic half-back, and other good ones are Jorginho and William Carvalho.

Using "Play wider" and "Exploit the middle" and pushing the wing backs forward means that a lot of the time they almost seem to creep forward with play whilst the ball is being played about in the middle of the pitch. And then one of the players with a good passing range (DLP or AP) plays the ball out wide to the wing-backs who either cut inside or cross to the AF/P or T.

I find that you need to have good crossing wingbacks or else they'll just pump the ball out of play. The front two positions don't even need to be such great players, nor does the CM(d) who can be just a crude ball-winner. The key players are the half-back, the wingbacks (you can get away with one good wingback probably) and the AP and DLP.

CB's are easy to find tbh.
Normally yeah I'd agree but ATM on my PSV save I can't find really great ones.

Was thinking about replacing my Brazilian CB or Stones (Before moving him out to RB) because they drop a clanger at least once a fortnight

So sick of seeing either of them play a pass that hasn't got enough weight on it to the keeper for the striker to nip in and smash it in. Happens far too often to me!

Anybody else having problems with Balanta being a complete maniac? He spends more time suspended than playing for me atm.

Yeah, the guy's a nightmare. I always say after he gets suspended for big games that I'm going to sell him, but then I look at his stats and I can't bring myself to. I don't get it, his aggression is only 16 and using GenieScout he has Dirtiness of 12 and Controversy of 5 (although I'm not sure if lower is better or worse there). The trouble is, for me at least, that he is trained to mark tightly and I can't untrain it from him no matter which coach I try.

Controversy is a lower is better stat, but has nothing to do with on pitch performance.

I don't remember having that many issues with Balanta, with high Decisions, and Tackling the Aggression shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, okay I'll try to play with flexible for a while, should I try standard as well? Do you play with short passing? Higher tempo?

Just tried this out, 52% possession and a 1-1 draw against a non-league team. I think my game is bugged.

I do usually play with short passing unless I'm chasing the game, or playing on the counter. Don't often play higher tempo, as it tire your players quicker, which is fine for some, especially teams with high stamina and fitness, but I prefer my team to have as much energy as possible at the start of every match. I squad rotate constantly too.

If you want to control possession, lower tempo is worth considering.

Of course, his tactic might not suit your players too. Every squad is different.

I'm using United though, only signing as of yet is Balanta.

Cheers for the help by the way. Much appreciated.

Just lost to Scunthorpe. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong. Tried every tactic in every setting but I just can't get a decent result or game anywhere. I've never been so frustrated with a game in my life. No matter the individual settings, team settings, formation, mentality, I just keep on playing like shit and losing. The best I play is to get around 55% possession, equal amount of chances and pretty much no CCCs in a game. Falcao gets around 6.30 every game, RVP can't do anything except score penalties. My midfield gets a solid 6.60 every game. And this is with different tactics, it just doesn't matter which one I choose, the team plays the same way no matter which formation I use.

I think that's what's bothering me the most, the fact that no matter the style of play or formation/mentality, the team plays the same way so it's really difficult to make any kind of adjustments to the tactic.

Best place to research tactics is on the SI games forums. The tactics area (in previous years they've had a really thorough tactics bible) is a great place to start. Maybe even download a couple of their created tactics and see what is making theirs so successful. It's all about trial and error, and time.

What coach settings did you use? I always found it much harder to get results if I had a low rep or coaching skills... Players don't seem motivated for you

I dont get it.. I got this 16 year old academy product who is decent / good-ish and I've played him more than 30 times and he's still 16 yet. Yet he's concidering leaving the club to play more games :wenger: What the feck, dude?

Just got my star player to leave his arsehole of an agent who wanted him to move from £40k p/w (which I've got him on for another 3 1/2 years) to over £150k p/w which I couldn't afford. Absolute result!

Right guys. I'm trying to make the diamond work. Any suggestions?

Got the back 4 on standard settings. The DM as a half back. Nothing unusual with the rest.

So confused..

I'm in pre-season. I just got near enough £200m in sponsorship money. I have broken even in my Summer spending (100m in, 100m out) and have £300m comfortably sitting in the bank, yet my financial status is "insecure" and my board are asking me to make money through sales?! Erm, what?!

How much debt does the club have? Assuming you're united, the loans should still be ridiculously high. Irritating really, since in that situation it'd make sense to buy them out.

In my save I started doing a lot better when I changed my full backs to attacking (they were on support). Both defenders are central defenders and defending. If they were poor I'd have them as limited. After this change my full backs went from ~6,8 to ~7,2 in average rating and I haven't been punished on the counter. I play with and inside forward on the left and winger on the right, both attacking. One player DMC and two MC.
