It works fine for me. Im usually in the top 5 least conceding list. And DDG won Golden Glove last season for me. But Mignolet and Courtois win it every other year. Mignolet and Liverpool are so overrated in this game.

Any of the wonderkids attainable? Kenedy, Yassine Benzia, Lucas Boye, Malcom, Munir, etc, etc?
Benzia turns into a solid goalscorer. I managed to pick him up for free cause his contract was up in 6 months, sold him a few seasons later for £25m to Fiorentina.

Does anyone else see when a players contract is running out in a year, then keep declaring interest in him to unsettle him, then in 6 months sign a pre contract with them? I've done it with a few players now, mainly regens that are going to be at least 3* potential, they fall for it everytime if you're reputation is quite high.
I'm just about to sign Julian Brandt on a free from Liverpool as his contract is up, then I'll sell Gnabry or Barkley as they're ageing now, think Barkley is 30 on my save.

Best time to get absolute bargains. I got Gotze for 7mill with a year left on contract, and 150k wages.

What settings do you have your CMs on?

3 at the back actually works so well for me at United.

But failed miserably when I did a Real Madrid save.
That's what I'm playing with Sassuolo, working very well.

On a recent save I picked both Gotze and Oliver Torres on frees, both still in their early twenties, madness.

Big fan of 4231, myself. I play it with three CAMs though, instead of two wide men and one CAM.
I've found crowding the central areas (regardless of formation) works best. Whenever I try to get lots of width, I'm never happy with the results.

What roles do you use? I usually prefer that sort of style as you can absolutely dominate if you get it right, but I usually end up having to go to 3 at the back to get my wingbacks far enough up the pitch, or just play with WBs anyway and only 2 CBS(which only really works when my team is one of the best).

I generally just buy/use any natural centre midfielder, and then use whatever role they're most comfortable with.
If I rotate, then it might change from game to game. Same goes for my CAMs. I make sure I have enough who are natural, and I give each one whatever role they do best. Same for defenders and strikers.

I've never been one to really really focus on roles though, to be honest. Once I have players in their natural positions within a narrow 4231, I'm flexible about their individual roles.

What settings do you have your CMs on?
Kovacic as a DLP and Gungogan as a BWM. But then my 'instructions' might vary as well. I have set short passing, quicker tempo, close down more, clear ball to flanks, higher defensive line (they are almost at half way line most of the game) etc etc. My wingers are inside forwards on 'support'.

Doing well into the second season at Sassuolo, top of the league, and tipping away well in Europe.

January came along, and Bayern came in for Balanta. 43.5m straight up, and replaced with Zouma for 25m, tidy business. The leftover funds allowed be to bring in Kranevitter, Wanyama and Tielemans, with a loan back to Anderlecht.

This is my starting 11 now.

Fierro----Berardi

Wanyama---Vilhena---Kranevitter
Daprela------------------------------------Mallo
Zouma---Vallejo---Munoz
Consigli
Bench includes the likes of Lucas Romero, Zakaria Bakkali, Anthony Martial, Nicola Leali, some random Italians and a smashing regen.

The biggest surprise so far was Consigli, begins off bang average at 27, but grows incredibly despite his age, and is a very good keeper.

Got absolutely bored with standard saves, so I'm currently doing a sort of 'director of football' save. Making all of the transfers, and then resigning and holidaying the season.

So you'll have to sack the manager every time you want to do a transfer?

Yeah, pretty much. A different manager each season. I do all the transfers in the summer. If they have a good season, and don't need my transfers, I leave them to it.

Does anyone know of any good skins for laptop? I kind of like the one I have now but lots of things is not showing as it should because it's not optimized for laptops.

Playing in the Spanish League is a bitch when you don't play with Madrid or Barcelona. I'm playing my Sevilla save, and I got a hammering in previous season when playing them. This season, I've beat Barcelona in Spanish Cup and met them again for a league game at Nou Camp 4 days later. They raced to a 3-0 lead by half time, with 2 goals from Messi and an own goal from my full back. Change a bit at half time, got a goal, then a penalty and Pique sent off, then the equaliser. Only to be defeated when Callejon (who moved to Barca at this point) dribbled from his own half and scored a screamer from out side the penalty box :(

Scorcher with 30 seconds on the clock to take us to the semis in our first go at CL football.

EDIT:

The semis were a shocker.

The final? Nervy as feck.

So I'm doing my 'director of football' save, and it's not been as boring as I expected. Doing it with Tottenham. I've learnt a bit about where I was going wrong with wages and contracts in my other saves.
I've managed to turn Tottenham into the richest club in the world without regular European football or trophies. They've barely finished above 6th in about five seasons. One manager managed to win the Europa league though.

My policy has been to sign promising youngsters on good fees, but low contracts. Whereas before I'd lower the sign-on fee and increase wages, I'm now doing the opposite. Once they improve I sell for huge profit. First season I signed Depay for £30 million; sold him for £79 million three years later. Sold Eriksen for £50 million. And this is all without a huge drop in league performances from year to year.

They all have yearly wage increase clauses, so once their wages get to around £100k+ (by which point they've been around a while) I sell.
I then bulk up the squad with free transfers and transfer listed cheap signings (Phil Jones, Lallana, Fellaini, Wilshere.. to name a few)

Wages are currently less than £1.5 million, which is crazy. And I'm hoping to sell a striker I signed for £20 million (and who has wages of £120k) for £40 million this summer. After five years of service.

The Sheffield Wednesday board have given me a new stadium, shutting down the dilapidated Hillsborough.

Waddle Park

They named it after the wrong Wednesday legend. Should have called it the Bart-Williams Bowl.

57,000 though. Suck it, Etihad.

I'm in a Man Utd save, 2019. Winning almost everything, making lots of profit. Anyone have an idea how rich you have to be to convince the directors to build a new stadium?

I've had it expanded twice but never had them agree to a new one.

Last time I managed to convince them was back in FM2012 I think. Was around 2025ish? I think it's pretty difficult to do.

Edit: Mind you I didn't play FM13 and I barely played 14. Like Sol says they agree to extensions easily enough but a completely new stadium takes a lot of waiting.

Thanks. Already had 2 expansions, to about 100.000 places. Not that I want to leave Old Trafford, just seems like fun :)

100k is the maximum expansion capacity at OT in the game, so if you keep getting more popular they'll have no choice but to build a new stadium. :)

The game has already decided what condition the stadium is in, and different stadiums have different levels deterioration - i.e. some deteriorate faster than others. I don't think you can view these stats in the standard editor, but you can see them in the unofficial FM Real Time Editor (FMRTE). I'd predict the programmers have put OT in tip top condition as of 2014, which it is, so I think it'd be a long wait to get a new stadium, unless you had a fiddle with FMRTE and turn it into a shithole.

I did that to Anfield, put it in just horrible condition, just to see if it would make anything out of the ordinary happen, like a stand falling down, or the whole place going up in flames, but it just made the club arrange for a new stadium to be built. Quite an anti-climatic experiment.

What is the maximum attendance possibility(again you'd have to check with an editor) for Man Utd? They won't build a new stadium unless they're selling out 100k and there's room for attendance growth(as there would be IRL)

Not sure, but don't those numbers (min, max, avg attendance) change over time depending on your reputation and stuff like that? I always assumed that they would...

Pretty sure in one of the old FM's my new United stadium was over 120k.

Thinking of giving FM15 another go. Really don't like this years version though.

Schalke got relegated so I manage to sign Max Meyer for 5mil on my Villa save, Draxler went to Wolfsburg, and Goretzka is still there -- they wanted 20mil for him. Talk about shrewd.

Sacked for the first time ever on an FM game. I just don't get it with this edition.

Had the PSV job with the intention of staying a few years and getting a PL job. In my 2nd season I won the league and gave a good showing in the CL (with the tactical advice of @Earthquake ). Halfway through my 3rd season Arsenal approached me for the job as Klopp had taken them to about 16th.

I took the job and was pretty impressed with the quality of the side. I played the same tactic (see below) bit shipped goals like you wouldn't believe. I finished the league in 8th and got the sack.

Side was:

Sczezney(sp?)
Chambers Koscielny Balanta Robertson
Schneiderlin
Ramsey Wilshere
Ozil -------------- Sanchez
Giroud

Settings of the GK and back 4 are all default. From there it's:

Anchorman(D)
RoamingPlaymaker(S) BoxToBox(S)
InsideForward(S) -------- Ramdauter (A)
AdvancedForward(A)

How the feck is that side shipping so many goals?

You need a ball winner in there, Ramsey and Wilshere makes a light midfield. Try using Giroud as a complete forward and put him on support instead of attacking, by doing that, he'll come deep and make space for Sanchez -- essentially what Arsenal do, passing it around. Take Wilshere off and find someone like Lucas Romero to be a box to box or ball winner since he's got better defensive attributes.

I play the same way with my Villa side. Carrick is my anchorman and he does the job brilliantly.

Guzan
Hutton Okore Clark Erken
Carrick
Delph Romero
Narsingh -------------- Sinclair
Zivkovic

I tell you what...

The day when the AI is a lot smarter about their signings will be the day when this game takes on a new level. You can build a team into European giants, and quite literally leave them with a team of 21 year old wonder-kids on modest wages. But within years of leaving, they start overpaying and playing 29 year olds that they don't need. You can literally go through their transfer history, and it's as if they want to wreck the clubs finances, stifle their youngsters' progression, increase the average age, and generally do a 'QPR'.

It would also be more challenging if other clubs had a hint of a system when signing/selling players. There's not one team who seems to be interested in actually putting together a balanced squad either for now or for the future. Surely it's doable for each club (or manager, at least) to have a transfer 'philosophy'.

it would make the game a lot more interesting if other clubs were a bit more intelligent with their transfers. It would take the game to the next level. Maybe I'm asking for too much.

Can't buy a fecking win to save my life for some reason after a great start. Jordan Rhodes seems to have turned into a paraplegic overnight. No idea how I'm still in 3rd after my last 7 games!

Edit: Won my next game! Finally!

This would be great, would make it a hell of a lot more interesting.

I also think tactic trends would be a massive improvement. If a team (including the player's team) is successful, other teams should start trying to copy their style. If a team finds an effective way of winning against the dominant style, other teams should follow that too. You'd have to keep developing and adjusting your tactics over the years in response to the changing teams around you, just like Fergie did in real life.
