I have money riding on Germany, Brazil and Argentina to win the World Cup before the start of the tournament so whoever who wins, I'd still earn a decent amount of profit, albeit my bet on Germany was the highest. However strangely during the Holland vs Argentina match, I was supporting Holland. I just can't stand Argentina for some reason and I've been really impressed by how far Holland made it despite everyone writing them off before the start of the tournament that they won't even make it out of their group. Looking at this game, I can't see past a German win, they really should beat Argentina in regulation time but in a final, anything can happen and Argentina reminds me of the Spain 2010 WC winning team. They are winning all their matches by a single goal and they could score an early goal from a set-piece or a Messi free-kick and then defend. But I'm still going to keep my faith with the Germans, they have been the most impressive team by far and unlike Argentina, they are not a one-man team. They can score from anywhere. Another big positive factor why I'm so confident of a German win is that the bookmakers' odds are deadly accurate. Ever since the knock-out stage started, every favorites have won/qualified and yesterday I actually for once went against the trend by staking £4000 on Holland to qualify. Really regretted it as I initially wanted to go with Holland win/draw in regulation time but I was tempted by the odds of 2.2 over 1.55. The bookmakers have given a Germany win at 2.3 and and an Argentina win at 3.5 and Germany to win outright at 1.72 and Argentina at 2.2. Interestingly, this is the exact same odds which Argentina and Holland had except that Argentina was the favorites.
And for all those praising how great Argentina's defence is, wasn't Brazil defence pretty good too before they were found out by Germany? They only conceded 3 goals in all their matches which was pretty impressive. Said it again and again. To win a World Cup or any major tournament for that matter, you need depth. If you rely all your hopes on one or two key players, you will get found out. Just look at Brazil. Messi has been largely anonymous so far and now all of a sudden, he is going to turn up against Germany? I highly doubt so. This German team reminds me of Jupp Heynckes treble-winning Bayern Munich team. They are on a mission. So focused and determined. Even after leading 5-0 against Brazil at HT, you will expect them to let their guard down but they have obviously learnt from their mistakes in their 4-4 debacle against Sweden and still remained so well-disciplined and professional in the second half. After the match is over, they were still so respectful and classy with their celebrations. Germany's group was a lot tougher and they had to face France (which has been one of the most impressive teams) and the hosts whereas Argentina's only real test came against Holland, which they only won on a penalty shootout.
Argentina doesn't look good against any team that isn't afraid to go forward and attack heavily. And Germany is a lot stronger than ANY team Argentina has faced. Like I said before, this German team is on a mission. Germany has been the runner ups once, and third place twice in the last three World Cups. 24 years of hurt. This is the moment they have been waiting for. They wont let this slip away to a team like Argentina.
Just emptied all my money on a German World Cup win in an accumulator with United to make top four.
That's how confident I am with the Germans.
Germany will make history again by being the first European team to win in South America.
Auf geht Deuschland!
