Final - Germany vs. Argentina

Its the final, everything can happen. Germany is a great side but I think people are judging too much on that massacre yesterday. Granted Germany had a brilliant game but Brasil on the other hand was hopeless and just surrendered. Argentina certainly wont defend like that and will give Germans a good game.
Other than yesterday's game Germany hasnt been that impressive either..Just remember Algeria game where they needed OT to beat them and vs France they were efficient but boring.
But all of a sudden people expect them to destroy Argentina just like they destroyed Brasil but it wont happen.
Germany is a favourite of course but for me just slightly.
One goal, one mistake and who knows.

2-1 hopefully for Argentina.

It's true that Germany hasn't set the World Cup on fire every game, but they're more than slight favourites. They're the best team in the world quite comfortably, it's just a matter of turning on, and they've done it every time that mattered, the latest being a confidence boost as good as you can get. On top of that they're fit and looking a lot more healthier than the Argies, who have one less day to recover and just played 120 minutes.

Going to be an easy win for Germany, especially given the respective physical states of the sides, with Argentina having played 120 mins twice in their run with one day's less rest. I just cannot see them being at the races with only 2 days to prepare.

I have a good feeling.

Our squad and quality is superior to Argentinas. And they are not as defensive as Holland, that could have troubled us.

Argies will park the bus and hope to hit on the counter with Messi, Higuain and other striker. Sabella looks like Maureen 2.0

Anyone who thinks this is an easy victory for Germany needs to find another sport. They'll clearly be favourites but defensively Argentina are no mugs. Hope Argentina win it for betting purposes but I think Germany will edge it.

Germany have looked the only side worthy of a becoming world champions in this tournament. The rest isn't even close. I'm shocked a side as average as the current Argentina have made the final. There's no question Germany is vastly superior, but in a one-off you never know I guess. Still, an Argentina win would be ridiculous.

True. They are the only team in the tournament that has looked good and that would be a memorable team imo. The quality in this world cup had been much lower than previous tournaments.
Agreed, would have loved to see Colombia against them.

For me, being German, it's not even about having been good this time.

I'm glad some people here think we deserve it but I think IF we at all deserve it more then it should also be because of all the pain football has brought to us this millenium.

- lost the final 2002
- lost in the 120th minute in the WC Semis vs Italy in 2006 IN GERMANY :(
- lost the 2008 final by one goal (deservedly)
- lost the 2010 semis against Spain by one goal (definitely deservedly in that game altough we could've had a pen and were arguably more impressive than Spain leading up to the semis)
- lost the 2012 semis against Italy when we all thought it was our time because Löw had a total brainfeck and fielded a ridiculous line up with Müller, Reus, Götze, Schürrle on the bench

(Bayern CL Final vs Inter 2010
Bayern CL Final vs Chelsea at home 2012
Dortmund CL Final 2013)

Losing the 2014 final against Argentina (who I feel should be an "official" rival for us as well) despite arguably having the better squad, considering the injuries, and considering that it's probably Lahm's and Schweinsteiger's last chance would be almost unbearable for my football heart.

thats BS, sorry.
professional players are used to play three times in 7 days during the whole season. and the world cup final is on sunday. thats in four days.

and btw, that ARG NED extra time was boring as hell. nothing happened, 22 players waiting for penalties(arguably for 120 min). i dont think anybody was close to be outpowered today.

Germany : Argentina 4:0

Messi was never a problem for Germany. (Not for Bayern Munich and not for the national side)
Argentina would be the worst champion ever.

Fine, they'll have 2 days of full rest, before the match day. Professional players are not used to playing at the intensity of 3 WC matches within 7 days(plus a ton of matches prior to the last 3, and an entire season of wear and tear). The physical condition of Germany will be far superior to Argentina in this match given the ease(physically) of their qualifying run, I don't see how this is even in dispute. They have no major injury concerns in the current squad, no players have been roughed up significantly, they were barely out of breath against Brazil, they haven't played 120 mins once, etc etc etc.

Can't wait till this damn tourney is over so we can get on with the real important stuff; transfer muppetry!

go check the season dates of a random EPL/UCL team, mate. you will be very surprised.

100% agree.

edit: by the way DON'T forget fecking 1999!!!
plus some other disappointments like Bremen losing UEFA-Cup, LEVERKUSEN beeing Vizekusen vs Real etc.

this post could be mine. i did this 2 years ago i believe. even before the tournament started there was no team who would deserve it more. especially with our current generation now in their prime and some legends like Klose, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, (Podolski, Mertesacker,...) etc. probably in their last World Cup.

Our team was too unexperienced and young to beat a superior Spain, but now our team is experienced enough and it's our time! And you guys here can say what you want, our team is a truly great side even if we should lose the final. Even though they have not as much flair as some teams from south. :)

And how often are the same players used practically without rotation, mate? For a month on end, no less. How often do these games go to 120 mins? Very rarely. Plus, these games are the mental equivalent of cup finals, every one of them. It'd be like having the EPL final day, the FA cup final and the CL final in 7 days without rotation. I.e. insane. Physical condition and the team's run in has a big impact on matches...any match, especially a world cup final.

Been to games with both fans in this World Cup. Easily prefer German fans, less cocky and arrogant. But Im going for Argentina for the sake of Leo and Mascherano who has been amazing this whole tournament.

Italy's record in competitive games against Germany is really quite remarkable. Still, Germany have a really good chance of drawing level in terms of World Cups.

Like I said in the other thread, how does one team make the finals without playing one good game? They literally haven't. Their front 4 excluded (and even Di Maria is missing) their squad is garbage.

Already the excuses for the argies have been pouring in. Keep them coming.

Also, in a one off game, anything is possible. Argentina have some serious offensive talent that can click at any point. Plus, any team with Messi in it always have a chance. If they score early or they could just park the bus and hit them on the counter and they have shown that this whole tourney. If this happens, Germany could be in some trouble. Worst case scenario game is tied at half and Argentina take the lead after the break, can't see Germany coming back from that. Argentina have defended quite well this tourney.

Also people are letting that Brazil victory really cloud their judgement. That was a freak result. This German team struggled against Ghana and didn't look very impressive against the states and France. If those tea can give them a problem that Argentina most definitely can as well..

Argentina's attacks all came down the Dutch sides, and as long as the Germans keep the left secure as a unit (Lahm should take care of the right well enough), the Argies won't get a sniff.

Stupid.

Argentina's defence haven't leaked a goal in the three knockout games. Their defence is among the best in this WC.

Don't necessarily disagree with your overall point but I thought they played well against Belgium. Not fantastic but from the minute they went a goal up they looked so comfortable that it was hard to see Belgium doing anything.

Perez needs to start in the final. This guy is very composed, hardworking, skillful on the ball. Not as fast as Di Maria, but better to provide balance to the team, very important for the battle in midfield.

Against Netherlands after he and Lavezzi were taken off, and Aguero and Palacio came on, Argentina lost the control in midfiled and Netherlands were threating.

i think it will be closer than most think

Germany are not a defensive team imo, they are just too good to rely on that, and that will suit Argentina imo/

Don't see any reason why he won't. Even if Di María makes a miraculous recovery he'd surely only be fit for the bench?

Big decision to be made on Agüero depending on his fitness but apart from that the 11 picks itself I'd have thought.

Actaully Di Maria as a substitue in the second half or ET might be very useful against German defence: slow defenders and tired legs.

Are some of the resident Germans still hating Löwe?

I still think he won´t get the best out of the team on a consistent basis and he made some weird choices in this tournament. His choices did not cost us our chances, though, and some proved to be working. He got some outside help by Mustafi´s injury, which basically forced Lahm in his (at the NT at least) far superior RB position, where he excelled.

While he did a good job at creating a positive atmosphere inside the team we are not in the final because of Löw, though.

With the exception of the Semi Final, which was a fantastic collective performance, we are where we are thanks to some incredible individual performances:

- Neuer saving our ass time and time again vs. Algeria and being otherwise solid as a rock in every game
- Hummel´s phenomenal performances vs. Portugal and France and being in general the best defender of this tournament
- Kroos´ strength at set pieces, which helped us on multiple occasions
- Müller´s extremely good movement, work rate and goal threat especially vs. Portugal and the US.

So yeah, we are just one step away from this title because we have simply the most balanced and strongest squad on paper and were the only consistent top team in this tournament.

I understood the rest, but this? How is it painful for German football to have two teams in the final? If Dortmund had won you'd have put Bayern in there...

Germany should win and probably will win. They have the best keeper in the world, the best midfield, the best defence and they should be fresher. Also they will perform, they don't do nerves.
That said I would prefer to see Argentina win.

Indeed. Only if he recovers in time though, which to honest has to be extremely unlikely. Don't think anyone would be surprised to see him do a 'Diego Costa' and limp off.

Germany won't destroy Argentina but they are favorites to win. As long as Germany don't crack under pressure and not let the game vs Brazil go on their heads, they should win it.

hope Germany win, been the better team throughout the tournament, Argentina wouldn't have got out the group without Messi and have generally not impressed me given the pre-tournament hype around them.

also for the sake of Brazil cause what could be worse for them than Argentina winning in their world cup?
