Final - Germany vs. Argentina

That argentenia hate:lol:

Why not? People hated Brazil and, till... Tuesday, Brazil had performed better than Argentina. Chile or Columbia could have easily taken Argentina out, very strong teams.

If Argentina wins, it would be with worse football than Greece 2004

Löw will surprise us and play an real LB :D

The first 6 games with Höwedes was just a part of Löws plan to confuse everyone!

Personally, I think this final is 50-50.

Sure, Germany have played well to get to the final but I'd argue they are under more pressure to win it than Argentina (though not perhaps, Messi) after all their ''nearly there'' attempts in the past.

Been really impressed with the Argentina resilience, though. Most people predicted they'd crash out as early as the round of last 16 against the Swiss, then it was obvious they'd get done by Belgium, and against the Dutch there was obviously no chance they'd progress. They just keep proving the doubters wrong.

On the Messi issue I've got to agree that he has to up his game. While you can say he has been well-marshalled you can't excuse the laziness in his game - if he has that attitude in the final, then it's goodnight Irene. Nonetheless, I expect him to have opportunities to run at the German defense and create havoc. After all, if Vlaar hadn't made that fantastic tackle last night, I'm pretty sure Argentina would've have a guilt-edged chance. And that's not mentioning the chance for Aguero he created in ET.

The Argentine defense has been great in the knock-out phase - so unless there's some top-notch German play I can't see them conceding. No easy goals will Die Manschafft get.

Going to be a fascinating final.

I think the 7-1 win has muddied the waters a bit. There were many critics of some of Germany's world cup performances prior to that game.

I don't think Argentina are an "average" like a few people have suggested. They've been tested for the whole tournament and come through every challenge, overcoming very negative tactics used against them.

I suspect the game will decided by a very fine margin. The main advantage Germany is playing 30 minutes less and not expending too much energy by winning at a canter.

The main advantage Argentina have is the best player is planet has seen in three or four decades.

Whether or not it's cagey or open it will be a good game. Can't wait.

Are some of the resident Germans still hating Löwe?
In my case, the hate is gone because he stopped being a stubborn idiot and pretty much did everything differently than he said he would for more than 4 years. A few examples:

Several times he talked about how set-pieces are completely irrelevant and he won't waste time in training to practise them. Now we scored 4 or 5 goals after set-pieces, with smart ideas behind them that were clearly part of the preparation for the tournament. We look solid defending them and crazy dangerous upfront. Both the opening goals against France and Brazil were set-pieces.

He always talked about how he won't ever change to a more pragmatic approach and will play attacking football, even if it's not successful. All of a sudden the 4231 was gone and we had 4 centerbacks and a defensive minded 3 man midfield in the team at the start of the tournament. Now I loved that and defended his decisions throughout the tournament, but again it contradicts everything he said and did in the past 4 years which was the main reason why German football fans started to hate him and his approach in the first place.

Then there's the Lahm midfield/rightback thing. I'm still not sure if he gave into the pressure from the media and switched back to Lahm at rightback and finally started with Khedira and Schweinsteiger in midfield because of it or if it was really the longterm plan, which is possible because both Khedira and Schweinsteiger weren't 100% fit at the start of the tournament and not burning them out early was definitely the right decision. But he gave several interviews during the tournament that he won't consider moving Lahm back into defense, so it does look odd and it's impossible to give him a lot of credit for finally getting it right.

I think he needed to be pushed into the right direction and I wouldn't be surprised if we learned after the tournament that the players more or less forced him to change his tactics, just like Ballack did in 2008 after our horrible group stage performances at the Euro, which resulted in an excellent game in the quarterfinal against Portugal. It's all speculation of course, but there's way too much contradiction in his actions and interviews to give him full credit for what we saw last tuesday against Brazil. No one will care if his stubborness doesn't get in the way anymore though and he definitely deserves a lot of credit for the preparation towards the tournament in terms of fitness and adjustment to the conditions, the same goes for the maturity of the team and the general attitude, team spirit and mentality. We look like the team that got all the fitness issues with the climate right despite having to play in the hottest and coldest region of the country and the players' interviews after the game showed that the focus is 100% on the title and that we have the perfect balance between determination and intelligence.

This really is a great German nationalteam full of great characters and quality players, CL winners and finalists, a great balance between experience and talent. Countless injuries before the tournament meant that we had to grow slowly into this World Cup, but from the start it looked like we could peak at the right time, that the players will grow into their roles and positions and if not for a freak game, I'm 100% confident that we will win the final. Then Löw will have done a good job and whatever happened before won't matter anymore.

The thing is not about the 7-1. The thing is that Germany seemed the Germany of old, playing on a counter attack, and as always being very efficient.

One thing that would hugely favour them is that they played for 90 minutes (30 minutes effectively), while Argentina is coming from a draining 120 minutes of football with less time to recover.

100% confident of winning the final... would be a big fall if you don't.
Yeah, that one would really hurt. Probably not as much as the CL final in 2012, but I really really want the title. Losing the final would also make that 7-1 win against Brazil pretty meaningless and we are the standout team in this tournament in my opinion in a way we never really were with the exception of 1990. Losing the final in '86 against Maradona's Argentina wasn't that bad, it kinda felt inevitable from the start and we weren't that good of a team. 2002 wasn't really bad at all, I just felt sorry for Kahn. '82 hurt a lot because it was fecking Italy, but in the end we probably didn't deserve to win that title. This one is ours to lose though and it would really really suck if we didn't take the last step.

Brazil waited 24 years for their 4th title from '70 to '94, Italy waited 24 years from '82 to 2006, so clearly 24 years after our last title in '90 it has to be ours. It wouldn't be fair if we had to wait more than 24 years while those two hadn't ;).

I don't understand how so many people can already claim Germany will win this easily, Germany deserve this blabla.

Germany had difficulties getting past Algeria for feck's sake. France surrendered, never really tried to get back.

And Brasil... well that was hardly a game to go by in my opinion. Brasil was atrocious, defended like a pub team full of overweight 40 year olds and completely collapsed.

Argentina could very well surprise a few against Germany, I think it will be a tight game.

A country in a country ?

its called "bundesländer" (länder = countrys), regions with own parlaments and so on. we are a federal republic. with a lot of differences. thanks for noticing.

for example: i live in saxony, and got nearly nothing to do with bavarians.
i don´t like their food, i hate their politics, and even sometimes i couldn´t understand them.

Bayern is more comparable to a state like california, etc.

you mean texas with religious radical right wing people ,didn´t you? its a better comparison
scnr.

no offence to balu, i like to read stuff from him :)

Germany will shredder them

3:0 in haltime

think its not easy like this. it will be important to be patient. defence of argentina is great.

but they are not used to standarts. another goal from hummels or müller after a corner or freekick could be important again.

Can someone help me here?
Which is the home team for this match?
Who will be wearing their home kit?
Need to know, can someone tell me this?

None taken. Still a strange comment from someone living in Saxony where the radical right wing is a much bigger problem, maybe a bit religious believe would help? ;)

Also, I'm pretty sure @kouroux knows about our regional structure in Germany and didn't really expect a geography lesson (one that's actually wrong, federal states aren't countries), when he made that country in a country comment  .

Brazil made Germany look better than than they are.. Don't think Sabella will be naive to think he can attack the Germans and not get punished for leaving wide spaces open or allowing players to get dragged out of position...

Doubt that. We'll struggle to break Argentina down, fluke another goal through a set-piece and then maybe, maybe score a 2nd one on the counter. It'll be a tense but not really spectacular game and we'll win it without playing great. I won't care though, I'll be heavily drunk and incredibly happy (or in complete denial in case it goes the other way), definitely drunk though.

Something similar was said before the Brazil-Game, or not?

Will be a tough game, with an better end for us after 90min! (hope so!)

I expect a cagey affair as well. Judging by some of Argentina's games I don't see it being a very spectacular game. Again I'll say that I haven't been impressed by the Argentines this tournament. To me they look like a slightly better Brazil squad, which might sound ridiculous. Reaching a final is an enormous achievement though, but I was expecting them to play much better than this. With Messi in the team you never know what might happen though, one moment of brilliance from him is enough to turn the game on its head.

Hopefully at the end Germany are victorious, it's about time.

That argentenia hate:lol:

It's not hate. It's just the less worthy team. People hated on Holland in the last World Cup final, and they're usually a hugely popular side, because they played a shite and dirty and wouldn't have been worthy winners. People want worthy winners.

But in this case Argentina didnt play shite or dirty.
Anyway, everyone has the right to support who ever he wants to, but please, dont come here with reasons when its all about feelings.

DOn't start to underestimate them. Of course we are the favorite, but Argentina is stronger than most people say here. They play not spectacular, but most teams who are the best or win titles are not playing spectacular, they play very tactical and safe. They have tributed their spectacular offensive football to strenghten their defense, and it worked out really well for them. Spain wasn't exaclty spectacular aswell, most people should remember.

How much goals did they concede so far? I think only 3 goals. Even for us it will be hard to break them. Imagine they score a simple corner goal as Spain did in 2010. Maybe we lose in the same way then. Everything could happen.

Most people have reasons behind their feelings. Obviously it doesn't matter if you're Argentinian though (or German for that matter) I'm just explaining why most neutrals seem to want Germany.

And yes, I'm sorry, they've been shite, by World Cup winning standards. Aside from a win against Nigeria I haven't enjoyed a single Argentina game all tournament. Germany would easily be the more worthy winners IMO.

Watching them this tournament has been a pretty dispiriting experience. Like you, the only game I really enjoyed from an entertainment perspective. Otherwise they been dull, lifeless and willing to bank on Messi getting them out of trouble. None of which will matter if they win the thing, but it doesn't mean people have to pretend to enjoy what has been a pretty tumescent experience thus far.

Anyway, I recon that Germany did a much better tournament, but Argentina was honest, we have what we have and try to optimize it. We didnt dive, lose time or foul, we play what we can play with the players we have.
Now, offcourse we have to play against a formidable team like the German, and they have al the chances to win, but at least we deserve the recognition that we are at the final because we struggled to be there with no external or unsportive help

Indeed. Obviously this is a huge fecking thing for Argentina. HUGE. And usually I'd be really excited by the prospect of Argentina winning the Brazilian World Cup. It's a great story. Sadly I've watched Argentina in the Brazilian World Cup. And as a neutral, don't really want them to win it.

That said, a Messi inspired final would be a big deal, and probably hugely enjoyable. I just don't like the idea of the World Cup being all about the crowning GOAT cake icing of one player.

Yeah, but Brazil fell apart after the first goal in a way that won't happen to this Argentine side. They aren't built around emotions, they are a pretty dull but defensively really solid team and they won't instantly throw all sense out of the window and run blindly forward if we're lucky enough to take the lead. I trust Demichelis to gift Müller a goal in case we need it though.

What? That was what you said!

"we deserve the recognition that we are at the final because we struggled to be there with no external or unsportive help"

I don't want you to think I have anything against Argentina. I really don't. I love you as a footballing country.

I just really, really don't want you to win this World Cup. Sorry.

Oh, dont be that naive to think I said it just because your last stupid answer, its more because of your long history of them.

Will support Argies on this one, but Germany deserves now a WC being the most consistent side on the world in the last 8 years and having by far the best tournament. I'll prefer slightly Argies to win, but will be fine with Germans winning too.

Really? The only match where there would be a reason for Argentina to waste time, i.e. the match agains Belgium, Argies were terribly time wasting since their early goal (about 8th minute).
Not that I was surprised by that or wanted to blame them. Just a correction about facts.
