Gaming Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (PS5)

Sorry for a little offtopic question but looking to start a new game but feel like I might wanna wait a bit before buying this. The games I loved previously are Yakuza LAD, FF7 Remake and Persona 5 Royal (pretty much my all time favourite game) so clearly a sucker for turn based combat. Any suggestions?

They have really done the Gold Saucer justice, looks absolutely incredible and I love that they haven't pulled back from the sheer silliness of it.

I had a really weird and slightly frustrating glitch happen to me though. I started it up yesterday and found that my last save was from two days before that and everything I did from then on was just gone. Thankfully it wasn't too much progress and it went quicker when I skipped cutscenes but now I'm worried it'll happen again! I 100% saved manually and even if I didn't, there would have been an autosave anyway.

I've taken extra precaution by saving in multiple slots and manually quitting back to the main menu instead of just turning it off mid game after saving.

I always save in my oldest slot and save regularly.

Just about to get to the gold saucer. I think in general they have done a good job with the comedy, yuffie and Barret have been good and red xiii dressing up as a soldier amused me.

I did have the game crash on me after finishing the sit ups mini game earlier though, was a bit soul destroying but I managed to do it again relatively easily.

I'm about 7 hours in and still at the first grassland area, managed to transmutate all the items it will let me. Changed my mind on the battle system, it's not just button mashing there is actually a technique to beating each enemy and a sort of parry system you have to time correctly!

I love the battle system, much more to it than you think and if you just go in button bashing you’ll come in unstuck against the more powerful enemies.

I feel like I'm still only scratching the surface with it but it seems a lot more tactical than when I first started playing. I've been using Assess which tells you weaknesses.

I've stocked up on fire materia as I played the original FF7 so I know what's coming next!

The 3d brawler game is a bit shit...it's not very clear what move the opponent is doing at times.

I'm enjoying it, I love that dance off's are a regular feature of this universe and that Dio is Dio. A lot of padding but the combat is fun enough that its enjoyable regardless. I was going to skip a lot of it and focus on story but doing a terrible job of not doing absolutely everything I come across. I might skip the gongaga side quests to get to Cosmo Canyon next because its pretty much my favourite location in gaming.
I dont love how they've mixed things up, I prefer how it went in the original pretty consistently, but think the premise does a good job of making me forgive them for doing something a bit different and pretty brave all told. I'm just enjoying being back in the universe and with this group of characters really.

Handy trick is to pause it as they begin their move, gives you time to think what direction to go. Do the fight normally first to learn what their moves are and then try again with the pause method.

Bit naff having to cheat the game to beat it though?

Man they did Cosmo Canyon so well. Love the cave and Bugenhagen/Nanaki’s relationship.

what do we all think of the whispers being back?

Finished chapter 8 last night. Going to go back to do all the gold saucer stuff I can and intel/missions before moving onto main story in chapter 9. Really enjoyed the way they have moulded the game.

Have anyone experienced missing queens blood players? They arent showing up in
Costa del sol

Finally got into it today. Regret not doing it sooner. Passed up Gwent in TW3 as well.

Rookie mistake. I've just been switching materia between party members and leaving the ones on the sidelines without any materia. Didn't realise they also get AP when they are not in the 3. feck sake.

Also reached my first controller smashing level of rage on a combat assignment in Junon. I've got to pressure this bird by evading an attack after casting aero and I just can't. I've watched a guide and I still can't. 8 attempts in and I've just given up.

Just finished Nibelheim, the 1 v 1 vs Roche was probably the trickiest fight in the game for me as it relies so much on good parry's. It's feels so off compared to other fights in the game, almost like a different game.
He's a character I didn't really take to or at least thought I didn't but I felt so sorry for him when he got up from that beating wearing a robe and muttering about black materia.

Some great stuff between Cloud and Tifa and its shaping up nicely. Story is kinda mental and Jesse waking up in the second timeline was proper weird. All in all its keeping me interested, especially Aeris white materia being empty.

The game is bloated but great, when the game is Rebirth its excellent, when the game is pretty much just FF7 its just fecking amazing, the entire section from under Junon to the end of Corel is probably the most fun 15 hours I've had in gaming. I'm both excited for the ending and left with feelings of what could have been if they just remade FF7. It'll take some beating for GotY.

They ruined Fort condor. It was great in Intermission but they’ve made it stupidly hard in this by changing things around. Had to punt the 4th one down to easy mode cause I was getting so fed up of it.

Yep. Not sure why they did it this way.

This game is hilariously massive but I don't care one bit because it's genuinely one of the best games I've played.

I really don't appreciate Chadley telling me I've been slacking on my regional intel missions when I've done all but one. Don't care if he's a child. He's a wee cnut.

50 hours in. Just left gold saucer, got the buggy and exploring. It's got a lott of fan service which I'm kinda ok with. Also maintains the ability of the original to be super goofy but also very emotional.

I’m hoping Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be another contender. Not sure what other major tiles are lined up for release this year beyond Rise or Ronin and Stellar Blade both of which aren’t enormous releases / by top tier studios.

30 hours in and only just got to Chapter 8. I’m too old to be gaming like this.

Great game despite the bloat. I will be slacking off clearing the open world stuff now though, not worth it really,

I'm generally a bit fed up of open world bloat at this point but I think they've largely managed tp make it fun in this. It's enjoyable to traverse the world with these characters, and chocobos are better to use than most mounts, plus some of the side quests are fun and quirky. Definitely some of the mini games are a big miss (the moogles, fort condor, sniffing with the chocobos) but overall it's a blast.

And yes, feck Chadley, little twerp.
