Gaming Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (PS5)

I swear to Jenova the lads from the Seventh Infantry have just as much a place in my heart as Barrett, Tifa et al.

I love those spatially unaware idiots. Till we meet again.

I thought I was ok at piano until the level goes up fecking massively with two legs? Nothin' to it. Wtf. I suck at this mini game a lot.

Finished. Gotta say the end game was pretty hard compared to everything that came before.

11/10 in the end despite the bloat. Corrected almost all the issues I had with Remake.

I have found with several mini games I am initially fecking awful and then within three or four tries I have beaten rank three. It's a very fast learning curve.

I have heard some of the later piano pieces are very hard though.

Is S needed for platinum? :nervous:
No but I want it!

Think I can box off most of the trophies now fairly quickly, Johnny’s will be the most time consuming by far. I think you can chapter select after completing the game so might do what I can and then focus on that trophy after completing before doing another run through on hard.

Fair! I think I can S the first three but the Nothin' to it track just hurts my brain.

Most annoying part is hard mode fort condor and robochad for the Johnny trophy.

Starting to get a bit fatigued with the bloat. Don't think I will bother completing every bit of the open world. The last three big areas really felt like a repetitive grind.

I thought you didn't need to do fort condor in hard mode...
I'm not entirely sure, but heard someone mention you need it for the Johnny trophy.

Edit: looked it up, you need to do hard mode.

Yeah it's one of those annoying things that gives you no reward but you need for the Jonny shite.

I think I'm nearing the end of chapter 11. Have hit 65 hours already on the game. Crazy really. I've been doing everything possible though in terms of intel and trying to get 3 stars on each mini game so that's added on time.

I was always a FF8 over FF7 guy but surprisingly, after being annoyed over the whisper stuff in the first remake, these remakes are slowly trickling me into the FF7 camp. They've done a bloody marvellous job and I'm having so much fun every time I sit down to play. Every character has meaning and different ways of playing.

Nice man I was 108 hours to the end, but I shared time with my daughter and made her do all the side stuff I didn't like bar a few bits. She's excellent at the PS piano now!

That's a nice way to do it!

In gongaga now and I think it's my favourite area so far.

Yes. That's when the game stepped up a level for me.

The atmosphere, introduction of some people, the soundtrack, the combat and story
all picked up from an already very good place.

I got to a part in Junon last night and I nearly died of cringe

The fake Merc girl and her highly irritating theme tune. I hate her even more than Chadley.

I think we can all agree that roche is an unbelievably good character and has been horribly underutilised.

Also in need of a little bit of help, as don't want to look up online and be potentially spoiled.....

after the second protorelic quest in corel, do you just continue story or have to wait around Corel for the 3rd to unlock

Even though i don't plan to play the game personally, i'm surprised to hear that it's not selling as well as hoped. 92 on Metacritic is pretty special for an FF game, and even with all the timeline/ pseudo-sequel nonsense, it still should be a big seller. Maybe the exclusivity stuff is harming it?

I feel like square enix are always saying things didn't sell as well as hoped?
Its probably in niche territory. Its better than the first but i still wouldn't love trying to follow it if i hadn't played the original. Between needing to play a 25 year old game, exclusivity, people not liking the first and turn based rpg's not being the easiest sell its probably not a game to rack up immense sales.
92 on metacritic seems excessive to me to be honest. I enjoy it and think its good but not that good.

It was never going to sell as well as Remake

it’s a sequel TO Remake and not everyone loved Remake.
It’s a ps5 instead of a ps4 game so there’s a much smaller user base from the get go.
And Remake came out during Covid where game sales were basically unprecedented, and was cheaper at launch.

Long term as the PS5 continues to sell and with a PC release I’m sure it will sell just fine. Square Enix just seem to love proclaiming their sales as disappointments. They better green light a part 3, the cnuts.

Who cares they make enough money on the brand and honestly i think series is overrated. Im at the end game and its been a great experience, but drawing out the main story and filling it with bloat deflates the momentum.

All the assets are there for the sequel so there's not a chance part 3 won't come out but production costs might be affected or cut back possibly? As others have said, it seems every game SE put out is not reaching their expectations but maybe the fault is that they're setting them so damn high and they want God of War or TLoU numbers?

If that smaller scale FF9 remake rumour is true I bet it will do almost as well as FF7 Remake but for a fraction of the cost.
