FIFA World Cup 2010

I must say i'm absolutely loving this game. It still has it's retard moments where the AI infuriates you but it's very infrequent (plus defenders make mistakes in real life too you know).

I'm gonna play as Mexico! Haven't tried them yet. Bored of using European teams now.

They're quite good and of course you get the added bonus of getting to play with Hernandez :)

How on earth do you save your lineup so its set for online play like you can your custom formations?

I mentioned it briefly in the 2011 thread but don't want to hijack it. Someone mentioned you can edit it in the main menu somewhere. Tried this and saved it but when I choose that team its still on the default players online on head to head. IE. Green, Heskey etc. Even though it is set on non online.

On 2009 you couldn't do it, don't know about 2010 but can you really not save your prefered lineups on this World cup one? Tried googling but its coming up with all sorts. If anyone knows that would be top.

If you pick Brazil then Ronanldinho, Pato and Ando are all way down in the reserves and people will often throw the toys out or quit by the time you swap them all. England has Bent way down too and he's better than Defoe. I like playing Beckham as DCM for his passing and he's way down the list too.

I've been trying to do this myself. I don't think you can do it which is incredibly annoying.

I don't think you could do it on 2010 but at least in Ultimate Team there was a hub, in which you could pick your team and formation and it would remain for online games.

So I fooled around in training with my beloved Norway, when I noticed they're all shouting in Noggy... "GJENNOMBRUDDSPASNING!", "KOM IGJEN!" etc...

feck me, what attention to detail... not even in the WC :)

I've still not managed to win the Online World Cup yet. I took ROI too the quater finals before going out to England. All this guy did was use pace to get down the wings then cross to the far post. I hate when people do that. Anyway, he won 1-0. Crouch scoring a back post header.

I'm still loving the game though. Fifa 11 should be good :)

I'm still trophyless too. I thought I could go all the way with Turkey a few days ago, and I did reach the final - although with plenty of luck as they guy I faced in semi-final quit at 1-0, so I got a bye to the final - but I lost 2-1 to Argentina. I could have equalized in the last-minute through an Emre free-kick but Romero somehow managed to save a perfect shot that was heading into the top corner of a goal.

What I realized is that I'm actually doing better with weaker teams. I can't go far with Portugal or Argentina, usually first knock-out round is the farthest I can get them, however I usually do well with teams like Switzerland or USA.

Today I even managed to take Zambia to the quarter-finals before going out to Spain in a game that I could have easily won had I converted some of the goal-scoring opportunities created. I basically shift to a 5-3-2 formation when I'm playing a weaker side and depend on counter-attacks and defensive solidity, it usually works out.

Can someone recommend me a solid, well-organized team with decent defence/midfield and a pacey striker?

Togo.

I've never been them but i played against them once. You get the satisfaction of playing with a lower ranked club but have a good striker in Adebayor to finish off whatever chances you do manage to create.

Try Wales...

A strong centre-back in Collins to deal with the big strikers, pacey wing-backs in Bale and Gunter.

Ramsey to supply the through balls for Bellamy and Earnshaw who are lightening quick

Won it twice with Australia. Had a go as Jamaica today, but lost 4-2 against Spain in the first knockout round. Jamaica got a decent team though, lots of pace !

Good shout, though today I've played with Greece and Switzerland so far - managed not to concede a goal in group stages with Greece but went out to Spain in first knock-out round with a 1-0 loss. Now I'm in quarter-finals with Switzerland having beaten England 1-0 and Ghana 2-0 in the group stages after losing 2-0 to Spain. In first knock-out round I managed to see off Chile with a 1-0 win, so defensively I've been sound except for the first game and I even manage to score some.

I highly recommend starting Derdiyok in N'Kufo's place if you're playing as Switzerland.

I use Derdiyok, he's stronger and faster than N'Kufo so it was really a no-brainer after I tested both. Frei isn't really an option for me because he doesn't offer much and is boring.

I lost to England in quarter-finals anyway, or should I say I beat myself. I was 1-0 up and putting some serious pressure but then I failed to block a cross from Lennon and Rooney equalized. I was still the dominate side at 1-1 though, creating chance after chance but then made a silly backpass that Rooney capitalized on and they ended up beating me 2-1. I feel sick.

Now I'm playing France, though this seems like a bore.

How difficult is it to organize the defence in this game? I thought I could manage not to concede a goal in the group stage playing France but then Robben popped up when it didn't matter anymore and scored to make it 2-1 in the second game of the group stage. And I had five defenders plus Toulalan and Diarra on the pitch at the time! It just seems that once the cross is made there is nothing you can do because the opposite team striker is the only player that is controlled at the time. Same happens when there's a through ball, surely the likes of Gallas and Mexes should be able to keep an eye on their man and not let them run at the goalkeeper one on one, at any given point of the game?

And how the hell do I move players in my tactics? I can only choose from the ones that already in the formation mode, cannot move any player, and cannot play with like three defensive midfielders.

Oh you're one of them that has like 5 defenders, 2 dm's then 3 pacey forwards arent you? :nono:

Sometimes I do indeed, when playing a side like Greece or Switzerland who are only accustomed to such tactics.

I've finally won it! With France after a campaign full of drama, twists and turns. I got past the group stage by a single won - having beaten Italy 1-0 and Holland 3-1 I played England with my second team but then realized that I needed not to lose by more than a goal - it ended 2-1 to England with a late goal from Rooney but they still had the chance to make it 3-1 in the dying minutes yet missed from 10 yards.

I was then drawn against Germany in the first knock-out round. I tried to approach them defensively but it cost me in the first half when Klose made it 1-0 through a neat header. They dominated possession until I switched to 4-3-3 and brought Henry on. I still struggled to create chances and when they moved to 5-4-1 I thought it was it for me. Then Anelka popped up with a good shot from outside the box to make it 1-1 in 80th minute. I already prepared my tactics for the extra time when one of the through balls from Gourcuff found Anelka, who then scored from a difficult angle to make it 2-1 in the 86th minute. Germany 1, France 2.

In quarter-finals I played England, I almost always do. I dominated possession from the beginning with Toulalan and Diarra mastering the midfield but they caught me on the break and Rooney made it 1-0. Soon afterwards I was running clear on goal only to be taken down by Upson who was then sent off - a free-kick taken by Gourcuff in the aftermath hit the defender who stood on the line. I managed to equalized shortly before the break through Anelka header and thought that job could be done in the second half against 10-men. But then they started hassling me at the back and finally got their goal from a Lampard free-kick, so I brought on Nasri for Toulalan and Henry for Malouda to try and win that game. Once again Anelka's presence proved to be decisive when he equalized in 70th minute and then scored eight minutes later to make it 3-2. 3-2 up and against ten men I considered myself through but they still didn't stop attacking me - I caught them on the break though and Ribery's neat chip over the keeper's head finished the game. France 4, England 2.

Semis are the hardest as I had never actually got past that stage before in a fair fight, once I did but it was because of my opposition quitting in spite of leading 1-0 in 84th minute. So I played Brazil - it was a tough game with plenty of missed chances from both sides but I kind of did a masterpiece by introducing Diaby for Gourcuff after 30 minutes which basically limited their created goal-scoring opportunities to none. I struggled to create too but I knew the goal would come - it didn't in the regular time but shortly after the extra-time begun I scored, once again with Anelka, and thought I was definitely going to make the final this time round. It lasted about 4 minutes before Ronaldinho ran at my defence, skinned Gallas, rounded the goalkeeper and equalized. Neither side cared too much to attack in the remainder of the extra-time so we went into penalties. I missed my first penalty, then scored the second one before missing the third one - while he scored all 3. So I was left with 3-1 with two turns to go. Diaby stepped up and hit the top corner of the goal to make it 3-2 and Ronaldinho had the chance to finish the tie - but he didn't as Lloris saved brilliantly. So I now had to take mine and save his - began with a powerful shot from Evra that went off the post to the back of the net. Bastos struck it perfectly but Lloris once again proved his quality and saved - 3-3 and it started all over again. Didn't last long as Ribery's shot went wide, so once again I was left in a critical position - only to be saved by Lloris who once again went the right way and saved Juan's penalty. Toulalan didn't miss and it was 4-3 to me when Josue stepped up to take their pen - and it was fourth in a row missed by Brazil, sending France into the final! Brazil 1, France 1, pen 3-4.

Surprisingly I played United States in the final - but I knew it wasn't going to be easy, though I scored two early goals - in 1st minute through Diaby's finish in one-on-one against Howard and then after 10 minutes after Anelka's clean finish. I obviously had the urge to cock it up later as my backpass to the goalkeeper was intercepted by Donovan who scored with a nice volley but it was everything they were capable of and it ended 2-1. USA 1, France 2, we're the world champions!

451 is awsome formation for brazil.

I seldom play with big guns but I find it difficult to go further than quarter-finals with small teams, though I made the final once with Turkey. I think I haven't picked any side more than twice so there's some diversity among my picked teams - the downside of that is that I hardly ever know what formation to use and which players to put out there because I barely know the team. So far of the top of my memory I played with Mexico, Greece, USA, Switzerland, Poland, Turkey, Spain, New Zealand, Zambia, Angola, Mali, Italy, France, Australia, Nigeria and Japan.

It bugs me that even on Professional difficulty, every single computer opponent still has the strength of Chuck Norris. If they get even remotely near me they seem to barge every single one of my players off the ball with their Ox strength no matter what I do. Yes I use L2 to jostle but my players always seem weaker. Only a really strong one like Essien will ever even stand a chance, they need to improve the way the ball is held up. I have to pass round the AI about 95% of the time because dribbling past a player mainly involves them launching me out of Africa with their demon strength.

And I forgot possibly the best one I've played with so far - Russia! The pace in that team is scary and they are well organized too, minus is that they barely have any decent midfielders so you're stuck with average ones doing the job. Given that I don't really play much in midfield and prefer to go down the flanks it doesn't bother me though.

I'm doing a WC with Germany and probably playing the best football I've ever played on this game. One touch passing through the tightest gaps, overlapping runs, intelligent passing, etc... Khedira and Schweinsteiger make great runs from deep to support. The goals are all spread around the team too.

Got this tonight. Anyone fancy playing a couple of games on the 360?

Finally won the online World Cup! Ironically by beating Germany 4-1 in the final...

So i won the World Cup for the first time. It was with England. I then started out as Scotland. It's currently 2-2 against Brazil and it's crashed in ET.

I'd better not get the loss or i'll be pissed.

EDIT: I was given the loss.

Go to my world cup 2010 or something, where all your personal info is etc. Then go to edit teams, pick a formation, set positions/workrate defence/attack or whatever. When you exit, it'll ask you to save it to a slot called 'formation x'). Then go to formations again and set your starting lineup at your new formation x. Go to the squad and put the right players in the right place.
Watch out for the stats, there's a bug in there that sometimes show the stat of the previous player that was put in that position... (this can cause messi to have 55 at RW, because before when you messed with formations, some rightback rated at 55 in that position was put there during the change) . Just gfo to formations and pick another formation, get out, go back to formation and set it back at the formation you wanted. That fixes it. You're done.

This has always worked for me and I start with my starting eleven and my formation in every online/offline game.

I got rid of this last week when I discovered FIFA 11 is due out in a few months.
