FIFA World Cup 2010

PS3?

I find this game too easy online. I'm on a 16 win streak in Div 1, winning 2 league titles. I wish there were more manual players around.

PS3 yep, but I don't play manual either. Never tried it actually and u'll be searching for hours for a game.

Brazil, but if you prefer shite teams, that's fine... love to use skills though, so rather have higher class players. Never been much oif a passer.

Bullshit red in the first match to put me on the backfoot for the draw (just held square and x to get the team into 'winning the ball back mode'), deserved win in the second, although I had no clue how to play with 1 star teams and clearly got a bit better at it as the game went on.

It was a red to be honest, you took my legs with no intension of the ball! You had more possession in the 2nd half in the last game but I don't think you even hit the target, then again it's a lot different from playing 5 star to 1 star teams.
Personally I think 1 star teams or less are much better, a more open game, more thought involved and no guranteed finesse shot goals

I held square and x to get my team to win the ball back as soon as I saw the ball was lost.. why he did that tackling animation I have no idea and tbh, why would I do it on purpose 1-0 up and in a non dangerous area... no frustration whatsoever from my part either.

Yeah I enjoyed the second match more as the game went on, but I haven't figured it out yet, because I like doing roulettes and stepovers etc. I guess I enjoy the skill part more than the chess part. That's why I need the big teams because they have the players to do that. I've never played a match with rubbish teams.

You're very good tbh, I thought you were one of those bullshitters when you talked how easy the game is for you online.

I understand if it was an accident then, but regardless it was a red card, I do it now and again, jamming the button to pass or cross without realising I haven't got it.

I'm used to crappier teams because online, with the big teams, it gets incredibly repetitive and boring. I'm not saying it involves no skill and the people who use them are shit, but generally it involves less thinking and more through balls etc. I also like skill moves, my favourites as you probably noticed are the shield and fake shot which can be used with any players, therefore the team doesn't come into considertation with that. I'm assuming you don't play online as I checked your hub and you've only played 1 game, therefore you're not part of the problem with all the button jammers etc online.

I didn't mean to sound cocky when I said I found online too easy! :smirk: I just find it easier than say Fifa10, not sure why, but I've played FIFA's for so long so I guess that helps.
You're a good player too! I'll have to play you on FIFA11, that's if you get it.

Yeah, actually in the first match I failed in fake rabonas (that was when a few times I suddenly appeared to weirdly pass the ball backwards when my player was running into a dangerous area) and other things... you put more defensive pressure on me than others.
I do play online, but only with friends or non-ranked. I tried ranked once as you saw, and got pissed off when some loser scored a goal with ten deflections and then just passed it around his defence for the last 35 minutes game time to earn a frigging DRAW. I mean, WTF?

Let's turn it around, invite me. go to online modes and play a friend and pick me.

What happened? I'll invite you, check message list and click on the game invite message.,

I thought this might happen, i have problems connecting to some people because of i've got a BT homehub. On FIFA you can go through BAP and it works but i don't know if this game has that loophole.

Oh well, I have little internet knowledge so what I gather is that we can't establish a connection? Too bad :(

Hehe, i'd be more than willing to play but this is beyond annoying. It's why is stopped playing FIFA so much online. my NAT setting is strict and theres no way to change it.

YWayne, calm down, you won the first one. This happens, fluke. I am sleepy, but we'll play again. Your skill and brains in the gameplay is obvious, especially in the first game when you beat my favorite team. Night.

Man that last game was weird. Same level teams but it felt like all your players were superior in everything and the AI for me spazzed out.

Why are you saying calm down? I am fine :)

Weird Xander, I'm on a BT Home Hub and don't have any problems. Try checking the router settings and the applicaton sharing section and see if you can open the ports for it.

There is. You need to open some ports.

Well you were slide tackling all over the place looking very frustrated. Ruined the game for me as well.

As for your offer afterwards to play manual (was that to get revenge? :D ), you know full well I said I never played that mode!

I do that when I'm losing, sorry. Just felt one of those games where whatever you do nothing comes up.
I noticed you changed your game plan completley and wouldn't give me a second on the ball, which sort of ruined any chance of a good build up for me.

About manual, just thought it would be worth a game on it. I'm not particually good at it, but it's much more realistic.

Did it feel like that to you? Cause I actually toned it down a bit (usually I'm not the patient type and just press and press, with the risk of comitting too many forward and get caught out with a simple through pass) because your play's got too mcuh guile for me to charge right at you... you usually seem to wait for what's coming and avoid it to make a long run, so...
Anyway, it feels exactly the same for me when I have the ball! No time with a man charging at me and lots of passing routes cut off.

I'd want to try manual, but you'll destroy me 6-0 for at least a few games. Tried it once for 2 minutes against the cpu and couldn't complete a decent pass!

I only responded like that because I felt you were doing the same. Maybe it was in my head. I'll give you another game later.

With manual, no chance of me winning 6-0! I find it hard to even score myself against anyone but it'll be a little different anyway

hmmm, but wait a minute: so this is viewed as wrong by the community (like a cutback goal type of taboo???), giving your opponent as little time as possible to construct attacks? But why? Isn't the point to limit your opponent as much as possible, and it's up to the opponent to best that tactic?

I may be wrong, but giving great players the time to construct attack as a code of honour seems strange? Is that what you meant by 'button mashing'?

Hmm. The thing is with constant pressuring and hassling your opponent to rush passess and moves, etc, is that there is no negative consequence of doing so. In real life, constant pressure on the ball would result in fatigue and tiredness right and players out of posistion, On FIFA it allows you to just pressure your opponent without it effecting your players badly or losing their position.
This leads to ping pong passing which is basically just pressing X as soon as you receive the ball which almost gurantees a perfect pass. Likewise with the pressure, making the game unrealistic and down to whoever hits the buttons the fastest which is not what a football simulation game should be about.

The reason I say manual is better, is because it eliminates this side of the game. On manual, you have to direct your passes and just pressing X quickly does not gurantee a perfect pass or the touch of triange does not equate to a perfect threaded through ball unless you time it right.

I wouldn't say it's viewed as wrong by the FIFA community, whoever they are :p, but imo it takes away realism from the game due to no negative effect or constant pressure, we can only hope it'll be fixed in FIFA11.

I see your point, but there IS a negative side to rushing my men to attack your players like crazy... I deal with it everytime and see it as a risk of playing my 'press high up the field' game: I get caught out. One through pass with me pressing both buttons means the last line is stepping forward and it'll be usually too late to correct as I'm usually chasing some 5 star player's arse with no avail of course. The skill and trick is to know when to high press and when to commit or not to commit the men around you...

So I disagree with that there's no risk or skill in pressing... in fact, the 'better' players I play against online usually make me feel I have no time on the ball in exactly the same way (and that';s normal: you want to get the ball back asap when you lose it, not wait for a good player to pass it around whilst you back off watching mesmerized, and then hope he shoots wide).... and no offense, but that includes you, from the first game I played against you. It might not feel that way for you since you're not the one dealing with that pressure :D

I think it comes with the territory of not playing manual.

EDIT: btw, I hope they'll fix it in fifa 11, as they said they worked to make the passing harder, but from the gameplay movies you'll see them ping-ponging their way through defences as usual!

In that respect, I find the pes 2011 movies more impressive. You can see there's more passing freedom there. I might defect :D (or go back, since I started with pes anyway, until it became shit!)

I s'pose there is a negative side, but I don't think it's bad enough. I still believe if you play the game enough you will find a way to just press constantly without getting caught out. It's not just the player, it's the computer as well. The defensive AI is not very good and changing player or using d-pad options will not always have the same result as you chose. All in all, the foundations have been set but I don't think the game is right just yet.

The thing is, are they the better players? Are they not just players who hold down X and then keep pressing X when in control of the ball. It's hard to tell as playing the game the realistic way or playing the winning way are similar in terms of the outcome.
It's not as you described using less pressure, I don't just sit back and await a shot. But it's more controlled pressure, predicting where your opponent will turn or pass. If you remember the games where I won 2-0 and 1-0, it was down to me not pressuing. You had most of the possession, but my defence was compact and tight because I held my defence and some midfielders back without commiting them pressing circle or X.

I wouldn't look into gameplay videos too much, I'll wait for the demo and go from there.
With PES, I found PES10 terrible on the demo. Online has always been shit and I can't stand not playing with all the real teams and name. Unless they produce a miracle game, I'm standing by Fifa.

All this talk has got me in the mood for a game. Manual or not I don't care.

Hmm I still disagree, and whilst I pressure, I still have to predict where you turn or pass to. Like when you just get in control of the ball, I already choose to direct my player to the right position to where you will turn to, since charging straight at your back will just allow you to turn away from me.

And whilst the better players pressure me, I usually find a way out of it, which gives me the satisfaction of having bested him. But I see we're not going to agree with this, so let's call it a difference in approaching the game.

My ps3 is on with fifa, but my wife's watching twilight on my tv

Just lost to someone playing as Congo, when I was Brazil. He was probably better than me, but feck me he used some gay arse tactics. Made the game boring as feck and I still had the majority of possession. Basically when ever he had the ball, he would run back to his goal line, sit there, wait for me to push up and try to tackle him, then hoof it down field to his remaining striker. Was such a frustrating game. fecking wanker.

He probably did that to annoy you because you chose a 5 star team. At least he gave you a game. I ran into some Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime who would pick a crap team and then constantly start to hoof it back to the keeper and score own goals.
