Some of you are far too bothered by him being right-footed
He looked and looks like a proper player. He uses his left foot for crosses too, which is encouraging as he can go both ways in the final third without a moment’s hesitation.Based on this video, the wiry dribbling style, the feints, the short stepped acceleration, the emaciated body build, the street style tenacity, the low socks, if you squint a little, it seems like you're watching Kvaratskhelia @Fortitude you may finally get your wish?
Sigh, go on then, I will get on the muppet train.
Fail to plan, plan to fail. The only reason I'm somewhat interested in this is because he's right-footed and can play full-back on both sides of the pitch. If he's good then he can probably displace AWB as the secondary right back option, and be real competition for Dalot, whilst also get minutes at left back if last season's injury woes continue there.
However, if he was being brought in exclusively as a new left back, then I'd much rather take someone like Reguilón who would almost be free as a decent back-up option. We have 3 good left backs already (Shaw, Malacia, Martínez) + Amass is turning 18 next season. I'm not willing to give up on any of them just based on last season. Spending big money on a left-back this summer would be silly IMO. First of all, a few long-term injuries in the case of Martínez and Malacia don't equal injury proneness. Secondly, if Shaw is managed carefully, he can still play 30+ games in a season. Thirdly, I trust in Ineos solving our injury situation, because I don't believe it was all just bad luck last season.
Martinez is not a LB - yet. We can only assume that Ten Hag might use him there if we sign two CB starters, but for now it's only speculation.
We have Shaw and Malacia plus Amass. I would definitely sign a LB, like Gutierrez or Kadioglu.
Fail to plan, plan to fail.
malacia was out ALL last season and still no sign of him coming back. Then IF he does we don’t know how he will be.
Shaw is incapable of playing full seasons. ETH told us this. His injury record tells us this.
Amass is a kid. Whilst he will get chances and be around the squad, he cannot be the plan.
I suspect this is why we want branthwaite because of his flexibility and being able to move Martinez around. But in the case that Everton have priced him out of the market, then I see ya going for someone like this who can play multiple positions
Don’t like the idea of a right footed LB.
Never ever buy a player based on a good international tournament.
There are many exceptions. As long as the player's club performances are also taken into consideration, such signings tend to be fine.
Well that's convinced me. Get him in!Don’t like the idea of a right footed LB.
Martínez absolutely play that role. Probably to an even better level than the players who do the LCB/LB role at City and Arsenal. It really isn't speculation if you've regularly watched Martínez play.
I think you've been dreaming, mate. Martinez has never played that role for us, and to my knowledge, he hasn't for Ajax either. How can he be a left back when he provides no offensive threat, anyway?

If he’s signed we will finally have a Turkish player that will make an appearance for us.
Only those who never watched Denis Irwin play
You sound worried budI love this player but think he’s going to be a bit of a possession specialist in the PL, a guy that adds great dynamism from deep but also gives opposing sides a weak link to attack.
To the extent Arsenal were looking at him I imagine he was a potential replacement for Zinchenko.
You can make this kind of player work but Martinez is the wrong profile to have next to him. You want a LCB with the range to cover behind him and who is dominant aerially.
Even though he's Dutch, and Bayindir, who was actually born in Türkyie, played for us in the FA Cup last season!
From the footage of him pre-Euros, he looks perfectly comfortable using his left from the byline.I don’t think it’s comparable since we have always had a left footed winger played ahead of Irwin, I certainly do not want to see our LB try to cut in on his right with Rashford and Garnacho doing the same.
However, if Kadıoğlu is just as good with either foot (similar to Ousmane Dembélé) then that’d be a different story.

No hesitancy or trying to shift to his preferred foot, and the balls he plays find their mark, as opposed to being wild flailing attempts. It seems like him being right-footed is being overblown as he’s not desperate to his right in all situations.
Been impressed with him during the Euros, and from the sound of things (he was touted going into them), he’s been one to watch for some time and it’s not hard to see why upon closer inspection such as this tournament. Thanks, that sounds more encouraging than he “can” play either side, similar to Dalot ‘can’ play at LB.
not sure I'm a fan of targetting a right-footed player for the LB spot.

What really stands out to me is there’s no hesitation or trepidation about his actions - if he’s going to use his left, the ball will be released when it should be, and he doesn’t turn back on himself to use his better foot.
I think his decisions to go inside or outside channel are determined by how the game opens up for him, rather than of doubt his left leg being viable, so he won’t narrow the pitch in the way I think people dread when hearing ‘left side and right-footed‘.
His aggression in terms of driving forcefully up the pitch is something sorely lacking among our FB’s and I think this kind of player really affects the game ahead of him by being so eager and certain an extra man as you expect from a modern, high intensity attacking FB.
Sounds like we don’t need to bring in two FBs even if AWB is sold, when his right foot is just as comfortable, can’t recall we have had a player like that since Carrick / Nani and hence why I have always been impressed with Dembele.
About time we have a proper attacking FB that helps build play and creating chances.
anyone worried we are getting thrown in there to drum up price and interest or are we genuinely interested?
Ironically, this guy backing up Garnacho, Amad or even Anthony on the right, represents a whole different proposition as a package deal because he will bust a gut working to not only support be involved in a constructive build up. I don’t know what his shooting is really like, but I am pretty sure his goal + assist total would be top amongst the FB’s here if they are all given similar playing time because he attacks with so much intent and purpose with the technical skills to back it up.Sounds like we don’t need to bring in two FBs even if AWB is sold, when his right foot is just as comfortable, can’t recall we have had a player like that since Carrick / Nani and hence why I have always been impressed with Dembele.

Shaw's not being replaced, he's one of the best players in the league when he's fit. His fitness is an issue but he's an important part of the squad all the same and will be an automatic starter when fit. He's just at a point where he needs to be managed a bit carefully and we have proper cover.
For 25m that's a bargain. My feeling was they were whipping up interest after Dortmund couldn't get him on the "Dortmund cheap" as they love to do, so Jose can start buying his warriors.

Actually, long term injuries expressly DO equate to futher issues down the line. Both of the players you mentioned underwent major surgeries (Malacia even worse) to their lower halfs, and that quite often has a knock on effect down the road. Refusing to buy a top prospect just because of blind hope that players will stay fit isn't a viable strategy. Now if his price starts getting to 40-50m pounds and it's just not in the budget then fine, but simply relying on injuries to not be an issue again when we went through a large spell last year playing a DM or a RB at left back is dumb.
That's why getting Reguilón for ~5m and reasonable wages whilst waiting another year to see what's up with Shaw, Martínez and Malacia is what I would rather do than getting an expensive player this summer.
Reguilon adds nothing to that room though besides another body. I'm not sure why you keep mentioning Martinez either considering he hasn't once played as a LB for us and right now is first choice CB. In reality we have 2 LB's, both of which are coming off injury riddled seasons with one a relatively unproven backup coming off a terrible surgery that might not ever have him be the same player he was. Either way there's a real case that we need a starting quality LB, and with Ferdi you get that along with him being able to cover RB easily as well. Considering how crap the market is for top quality fullbacks, opportunities to get them cheap don't come along often
Sure, eventually that'll happen, it's just not this season.Shaw is 30 and has rarely completed more than half of a season. At a certain point you can't just rely on "when fit" if a player misses that much time consistently if you ever expect to be a consistently good side.
And this has nothing to do with his quality, I love watching Shaw play.
A chunk of that was his nightmare injury from the European game. I think he’s played about 70% of the last few PL seasons before 23/24 (*not saying that is great either, but just hope he can manage two seasons and Amass progresses)Shaw is 30 and has rarely completed more than half of a season.
