Is this a serious question??

Not sure what you think they’re going to do with him off he isn’t starting and I can’t imagine that he’ll need too keen to hang around if any of the other GKs at the club are starting ahead of him regularly.

He might ‘only’ start the PL and CL games though

He seemed to get quite a bit of criticism last season and a lot of City fans have been wanting Ortega to start ahead of him.

Are there any resident Brighton fans who know if it'll be Steele or Verbruggen in goal against Luton?

And does João Pedro play upfront, or...?

Amazing that you can build this:

Onana (Areola)
Estupinan Stones Gabriel (Pau Baldock)
Salah Rashford Saka Mitoma Garnacho
Haaland Jackson (Mubama)

But even more amazing that you can actually also get away with this:

Onana (Areola)
Estupinan Gabriel Pau Tarkowski (Baldock)
Salah Rashford Saka Bruno Mitoma
Haaland (4.5 4.5)

Giving up two forward spots but few of them look that amazing to be fair, and Baldock is a perfectly fine option for the bench. There are multiple 4.5 defenders to choose from so could be anyone in place of Tarkowski who seems injured anyway.

Last friend they played they started with

Mitoma Welbeck Gross
Pedro
Dahoud Gilmour

Pedro took the penalty that Estu won with Gross still on the pitch

You switched from Jackson to Watkins? i have Jackson and Son right now. Im wondering if I remove Son, move to Watkins up top and bank the 1.0m.
Yeah I wanted a £8m slot. I think Jackson might not be as great a pick because he's new to the league and Nkunku is injured. I will swap Watkins to Nkunku when he's fit or to Jackson after GW2.

After Spurs last friendly, seriously thinking Maddison might be the better pick over Son. Son played really wide and got no returns. Maddison was bossing it and got 2 assists. Only issue is I don't need the £1.5m saved but can always come in handy I guess.
I must be missing something, why are people going for Mbueno? Is he the Brentford striker now?

He seems to also have a slight injury flag on FPL now
I'm not getting him. fecking boring pick. I got Mitoma. Might get Diaby later.

I keep going back to Kane . Just feels a big risk not having him as long as he’s with spurs. With Maddison, Son and Kulu providing him with creative outlet, he’s going to keep banging in goals

Onana (Areola)
Gabriel, Dalot, Estu (Bell, Beyer)
Saka, Rashford , Eze, Diaz (Anderson)
Kane, Haaland, Pedro

I've had Kane since my first draft and I'm not getting rid unless he's confirmed gone. Mad to think but he could be a nice differential initially.

This just goes with the general knowledge that most city fans are absolute morons.

This will just be the latest iteration of their moronic behaviour and shouldn’t/won’t happen.

I think I’ll be finalising my team with Kane in it as opposed to Salah. Not sure why but I suspect Kane will be the more consistent scorer of goals and points overall and will get bonus points no matter what.

Feel like Salah might miss out on bonus points if someone like Trent chips in with an assist or one of their other goal threats chips in with a brace. Kane feels like he gets bonuses because her Kane and Spurs are generally shit if he doesn’t perform.

Tinkering with a threemium. Would be a bit wild, but Garnacho will get plenty of game time the first 3 games imo with Højlund injured/eased in and Rashford on top.

Joao Pedro on pens is interesting, but he'll get rotated of course.

Ramsdale
Estu - Akanji - Shaw - Gabriel
Salah - Martinelli - Garnacho
Kane - Haaland - Joao Pedro

Bench: Beyer/Baldock + 2 x 4,5 midfielders.

The strategy would be then to not do subs the first two games, and downgrade after that if one of the threemiums is not high-level performing.

Pedro / Garnacho / Estu / Akanji will all possibly need transfering out after 3-4 games which is the big catch, but that's also where Chelsea's fixtures look better and Newcastle too.

It'll take a lot of hits/transfers to make it work in gw 3-4 but you could also come out firing for the first 3 weeks if it works. Probably too risky however. Rashford, Saka, etc could all do the same as Salah in the first couple of games to be fair.

Tempted by Joao Pedro, £5.5m on penalties, Brighton with a good attack.
Luton, Wolves, West Ham to start.

Only problem I can see for me is that if I want rid of him it’s a couple of transfers to sort.
At least with Mitoma there you can easily move to another £6.5m midfielder.

Could rack up points early though. It’s difficult to ignore Brighton with Luton at home first.

He'd be the second name in my team if he's staying. Big "if" though. Hopefully get some more concrete news this week.

I'm thinking this. Money is no issue, just don't use it.

I might get him instead of Watkins and therefore swap Mitoma to Diaby.

I know I want Nkunku or Jackson after GW2 so Pedro is just a placeholder. Brighton fixtures toughen up after the first few games and they will rotate whereas Villa are very solid so I would have had to swap Mitoma out soon anyway.

It’s a good point that, hold back a couple of £m then Nkunku/Jackson for Chelsea’s run from GW3.
I’m sort of set on Watkins myself at the minute. I think Villa will tear Everton apart in GW2 especially if Michael Keane keeps his place, there will be goals in it anyway.

Diaby could be good coverage though.
Watkins could be moved off penalties soon too, he’s missed a few now.
More tinkering ahead in the next couple of days.

Yeah ideally you want to build a team for the first 2 weeks and roll that transfer into 3. Wildcard if you've totally messed up.

Trouble is Liverpool have that plum captainable fixture in gw2 and outside of Salah nobody knows who starts in their attack.

I really like Jota. He scored when he came back from injury end of last season. 7 goals in 9 games
Problem is that even when he did he was in and out of the starting 11:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diogo-jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/340950/plus/0?saison=2022

He’ll be like Foden though in that he just won’t be guaranteed starts.

I’m still nearly tempted to go with a Salah/Haaland draft. It’s doable then if needs be transfer out Salah after a couple of weeks and spread the funds throughout the team for whatever the new template becomes.

I will admit that Kane is starting to enter my FPL thoughts.

Means downsizing the midfield but with so many rotation issues flying about, this might be a decent option.

Draft right now (changing on daily basis):

Pickford (Lonergan)
White, Estu, Dalot (Akanji, Baldock)
Rashford, Bruno, Ode, Mitoma (Diaby)
Haaland (C), Watkins, Pedro

0,5M ITB

Will blend in a couple of Chelsea and/or Spurs players for GW3

Thoughts?

Another way to look at it is all games are going to be 100+ mins now so the likes of Jota, Darwin, Foden, Alvarez, Trossard, Nketiah, Garnaco etc... will come on against tired legs if they don't start and have a decent chance to return.

Also could mean benches are less important this season. Don't expect many auto subs.

Agreed. They're also looking more gung ho so may well be more free scoring too. As you say, he's Mr FF consistency and should be a BP magnet.

Salah also doesn't feel as essential to me as previous years either. Seems like they're pretty stacked going forward and you'd imagine their goals will be spread a little more evenly. I'm sure he'll have a good season but I'll take Kane over him.

Attempt number 723:

Flekken
Gabriel Estu Saliba Botman (Beyer)
Saka Mitoma Bruno Rashford (Andersen)
Haaland Kane (Archer)

Tomorrow, we go again!

Found a way to fit in Son and Watkins. My attack is fecking stacked. Hopefully it pays off.

That's in my current draft but I'm thinking its not optimal.

I only want someone for two weeks and Watkins starts with Newcastle away. Pedro might be the better option.

I also have Son but saw the Spurs final game and seriously considering Maddison, who was on set pieces and far more involved with Kane. Think he could be bargain at £7.5m, which will leave be enough money to switch Estu to Stones/Trippier from GW4.

Mbeumo instead of Mac Daddy and that's the template.

Watkins as cap? Surely not?
Very solid, personally I’m not a fan of double defence to start the season, so I would make Shaw either Stones or Chilwell, or Onana to Johnstone or Pickford.
you have the money ITB to make Mac Allister Phil Foden, as City play Friday there should be a 99% chance we get early team news if he starts or not.

The template call got into my head. I've rejigged it.

I've shipped out MacAlister and Watkins. I might still swap Onana for another goalkeeper given the double defence thing, but your fixture is so easy you might not even concede a goal until about Week 10.

I've gone with 1 striker and brought in TAA and Eze. TAA might be set for the season of his life and he's capable of 200+. Tripper is the most popular defender but I'm not sure he's going to repeat last season's heroics.

Eze seems a cheaper and safer option than MacAlister at a new club.

Bench includes Areola and Baldock and two cnuts too shit to mention (but their names are Archer and Muniz)

Likewise Gvardiol at £5m.

Was just going to bring him up. Is he likely to start at City? So far he's been selected by 0.0% of FPL players.

Sandro Tonali might be another one to think about.

On another note, one thing FPL has taught me is that City may have conceded just 33 goals last season but their goalkeeper and defenders were complete crap.

I understand going with a 5.0 City defender cause you’re saving 0.5 but wouldn’t it be better to go for Ederson cause he is nailed on for 5.5 rather than Dias or Stones. It’s not like Dias or Stones are bonus points magnets?

Probably because he and Hojlund were just added. No way would they bench their 100m signing.
No way he starts GW1 and maybe GW2. He will be still integrated into their squad and learning their strategy/formation.

These two words don't belong in the same sentence.

Is there a problem with him right now? They started Haaland last season

They didn’t have a striker last year. Haaland was signed earlier in the window. Playing striker is much easier than playing as a defender.

Yeah just hold fire on Gvardiol. Too risky for GW1. Pep might want to get him training for a few weeks first. Estu > him around GW3/4 looks like an obvious move.

Kane draft...

Onana (Areola)
Estu Saliba Udogie (Baldock) (Beyer)
Rashford Martinelli Saka Diaby (Nakamba)
Kane Haaland J Pedro

No bench here so you'd have to be starting your £4.5 defender every week which is not ideal.

This! Complete City back line is rotation risk with crazy Pep on the bench. City have perfect opening 5 or 6 games for clean sheets. Onana and Stones are 10.5. Ederson and Shaw are 11. I will sacrifice 0.5 and have two nailed defenders instead playing Pep's roulette.

If Hojlund is fit, he will start first game for sure. Bit wasn't there a tweet yesterday that Hojlund has minor injury?

It might take a few weeks for him to even play I think. He isn’t match fit. Maybe towards the end of the month?
