Fabrizio Romano

Hmmm. Wouldn’t be surprised in that case.
Ben Jacobs is another one. He's quite clearly on the Chelsea PR and has been for a while now. I think even the Chelsea fans acknowledge that one.

I just really think it lacks journalistic integrity but others might disagree.

Yeah, that matterface twin Ben Jacobs is definitely on Chelsea’ PR the way he sucks them off and for a while now.

Overtaken him? Ornstein was always the gold standard and the level above Romano and other journalists.

I think Ornstein didn't have as big a profile when he was still at the Beeb. With the Athletic he's now got the profile to match his level.

Ornstein was an Arsenal correspondent mainly at BBC and made his name there. I think he did do other clubs too toward the end, but I forget.

The tweet replies were hilarious though. So many orny memes.

Even now I don't think Ornstein has as many followers as Romano, it's around 10% of Romano's followers, and interactions for Romano's posts is higher than any journalists/reporters get.

I think Ornstein was reporting only about Arsenal and then he started to report about many clubs. Maybe that's when his profile was boosted but in terms of level and reliability, he was always level above Romano and others.

Romano was probably posting Ornstein stuff and people were thinking it was his stuff since he's a grifter. I think now people tend to get their news straight from Orny.

I agree but I think the gap is less between Romano and Ornstein. Ornstein himself respects and recognises Romano as a decent journalist.

That's now true. Ornstein himself credits Romano many times.

I know, Ornstein credits Romano a lot in his tweets for reporting after Romano.

When I say level above it's for reliability. Ornstein is like official, makes sense as he doesn't tweet a lot and only does it when he is very sure about it. For Romano it's his job and earns a lot by tweeting a lot.

Yeah, I also find Romano just has a different strategy. He appears to be more of a content creator as well as a freelance journalist.

like this guy says. Five tweets since Ornstein said his bit and dipped. No new information but he repeats and farms interactions.

funnily though, he did divert from Ornstein and said that it was only up to 62m euros, but now Ornstein has said it's up to 70m euros. Romano has ignored that and just reiterated what Ornstein has said about the medical.

Has it happened he tweeted a here we go about some transfer which never materialized?

Thats because he's a content creator as well as a free lance journalist.

He certaintly blew his load too quickly for Gvardiol last year. He signed in the end, but the deal were far from done when he posted

And yet you and everyone else was quoting the fee he said and not the fee Ornstein broke the story with. Romano has broken plenty of exclusives, not sure why some people have this obsession with discrediting him but hey whatever floats your boat.

Never claimed otherwise.

Why is the Yoro thread closed? Is there a new one or something?

and once you look past that, it's fine. The constant noise and farming interactions is certainly not my cup of tea (I guess I'm just too old for that shite), but you can't deny he has his sources.

Personally I would have done 8 tweets if they earned me £1k each.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to grasp. He does not work for a big news agency, he is self employed and makes money solely based of ad revenue derived from interactions. Transfers are his bread and butter and if I was in the same position I would milk it for every last dollar.

It's not hard to scroll past a tweet or post you've seen before.

He's providing information and making himself some money.
The info is factual but he extends the little he has to maximize profits.
I really don't get the hate. If it annoys you then block him.

There is no doubt he is one of the top transfer journalists, but his audio set up is horrible :)

I actually have never seen anybody with as large of an audience, or even tenth of his audience being so careless about the audio setup. He sounds like he is sitting in some vault. Probably using just the default laptop microphone or some shit.

I wish he would fix it, it's really quite annoying

It's more than just that. The more he posts, the more exposure he gets, the more he's seen as THE source of transfer news. It's brand exposure as well as content creation.

There's just something that gives me the ick about people desperate to be noticed and trying to spread themselves everywhere. Like have a day off man.

All this talk about Romano vs Ornstein and which one is better.

Two of the greatests of all time performing at their best, day after day.

Like, guys, why can't we just enjoy them while they're here? Because one day, they'll be gone. And it will be a sad day for football.

He's very good at adding minor and impossible to disprove tidbits of information to strories other journalists have broken.

So someone will announce a player is close to agreeing terms. Romano will pick this up and Tweet how player's representatives have been house hunting in the area and that contract negotiations are set to conclude after agreement was reached over image rights fees. Or other complety minor nonsense that serves to substantiate his supposed insight.

He's very, very good at making up what are relatively innocuous 'facts' around an already broken story in order to claim insight and/or appear to be the originator of it.

The problem is he can't help himself. He presents as the sage of every transfer that ever happens anywhere in the world to the point where making, sustaining and getting the first scoop on every occasion, would be an impossibility. Seasoned local journalists who spend their whole careers covering a football club, who have actual relationship with the manager, chairman and coaching staff don't have as much insight or connections into the one club they dedicate their lives to as this guy claims to have with every single top flight club in the world.

You have to be pretty gullable to fall for it. If a few Tweets that Forest Green are in market for a new right-back started to trend, Romano would Tweet the same information but claim the decision was made whilst the chairman had just had a cheese roll and was wearing navy socks, just because he is desperate to look like the one with the insight track on every transfer going

Yeh I really don't care. He's basically an aggregator for me. I only need to check up on his tweets, rather than loads, and the stuff he posts often proves to be reliable.

He's always been like that to me. If I bothered to dig up tweets timing then I could have found something similar. But you don't even have to do that, you can tell by how broad his transfer coverage has been in the past 3-5 years to know there's no way this person has that many legit sources. If he's an expert in one league, that makes sense, two? tougher but still possible... but he covers what..? all the top leagues? no chance. He's mixing legit info from trusted sources with speculations I reckon. If they stick, good, if they don't, it is "understandable as long as they make sense" anyway. That's how it works. And that's how you create a huge number of followers.

The hate this guy gets is off the charts and for no reason at all.
Is it not far off the realms of possibility that they both have the same source?
"Hate" is an extreme word to deflect from valid criticism towards someone making a lot of money portraying themselves as a journalist and a reporter, and seemingly having very weak ethics.

I get that "here we go" is his catchphrase and it doesn't matter how laughable it is, many people seem to love it. Okay, it's a lost cause. But what about the "Understand" at the beginning? What the feck is that shit about?
