Fabrizio Romano

He has faked it until he maked it.

Just kept confirming news from twitter and aggregators and acting like he was first to it, seemingly 24 hours a day for years, and eventually, he legitimized himself and made his own contacts in the game.

Just did the grind and ground out a space in the scene.

Plenty working in the business now in 2024 that know far less, like that absolute spoofer who waffles on Sky.

Kroos could easily had a change of heart after agreeing to a deal initially. I think he wanted to extend, but then with the league wrapped up and looking good for CL, decided to quit on a high. Things change sometimes

Sure but "it's just a formality to sign" doesn't leave much wiggle room.

Gave up on him a while ago due to his embarrassing Haaland fan boy gushing and the amount of retweets he does/did. He's not missed.

I don't follow transfer gossip much, could you explain a little more? Probably being thick but I don't understand.

I can understand selling clubs and agents wanting to put news out that a player of theirs is in talks with another team as then they can start a bidding war. Higher transfer fee, higher wages etc. But then if another club did swoop in and 'steal' that player it would actually make his initial claim look wrong in the eyes of the public as they'd end up joining a different club altogether. Nobody would be able to prove the club that was supposedly trying to sign him first missed out or was ever even interested to begin with. Clubs do not comment publicly about players they tried, but fail to sign.

He must appear to be wrong sometimes if he's at all successful at stirring up further interest in a player through his leaks. If he never appears to be wrong and was always telling the truth about the initial bid/interest it means this tactic never works so why would anyone want him to work for them after seeing how ineffective it is?

If you're the buying club you don't want it widely known that you're trying to sign somoene as it invites competition. No benefit for them.

If he does none of the above then ignore.

If he's genuinely always right and the players always join the club he says they will then all he's doing is announcing done deals but to who's benefit? What do the buying or selling club/agent get out of him announcing before it's on the club webiste and social media? It's not changing anything at that point.

Help me understand!

There is no understanding. He scratches an itch that fully formed adults don’t ever feel.

For maybe a year or two he ‘gamed’ social media. Then traded that for access as he’d stolen a march and seemed like a journo. In reality he’s an influencer that’s adding nothing.

The world in which clubs announced player signings was far better, and would be more beneficial for all if we reverted back to it. But we won’t.

He’s basically the dickhead in every online space that doesn’t use spoiler tags. Had he been in a screening of The Sixth Sense - after seeing an advanced screening the week prior - he’d have stood up 20 mins in and shouted ‘HERE WE GO! Bruce is a ghost!’

Gob on a stick.

99% of the time he just states obvious stuff that can't/won't ever be disproven and people lap it up.

Like today's 'we've made contact with various other coaches in the last few days'. Name them then if you really know?

Or "reaching the last few days for a decision on Ten Hag". Great insight.

Don't care for him and don't care for the whole here we go thing.

But, you have to hand it to him, he's making good money from idiotic gobshites who are willing to pay him to post shite on twitter. He's pretty much just leaching off agents who are probably some of the biggest leaches in football themselves. It's quite incredible that he's made himself such a high profile figure from it.

I have never got the obsession with transfer gossip anyway. Almost all of it is random and unprovable speculation. He's a journalist for the people who are more excited about transfer windows than games.

There's times where you see him post tweets and they feel quite transparent they're paid promo tweets.

Yeah, especially with young unproven players. The way he keeps hyping up some random teenagers makes it obvious he's being paid either by the player's club or their agent to attract some transfer interest. Fans get excited about signing 'the next big thing' and even the clubs can get sucked into a bidding war out of FOMO.

He's a good source for transfer news but people just need to take what he says with a pinch of salt because he's basically a one man PR machine for whoever pays him the most.

He's really fecking annoying isn't he. Constantly retweeting his own stuff, pointless tweets about how deals are still progressing with no new info. It all screams "please notice how I knew things!". And when he's beaten to a story by Ornstein he's swiftly tweeting mere minutes later to 'confirm' this news of course.

The second a final whistle blows in a Euros game he's tweeting "Who was your man of match?" as if he actually gives a shit and doesn't just want more engagement. Tiresome bloke.

Got made to look desperate again yesterday by Ornstein.

Ornstein breaks the story of Olise not going to Chelsea. Romano as usual is straight in minutes later with his “yes I also knew this but as per Ornstein” because he cannot bear to be seen not knowing something, and adds that Utd and Newcastle all still interested.

Ornstein then breaks that Olise has chosen Bayern.

Absolute chancer.

Tweeted about our pre season loss but complete silence when it comes to the Enzo/Argentina racism thing.

Silence is deafening especially from a man who never shuts the feck up.

Pipes up to show how sorry Enzo is

Have I missed something? Is there a theory behind why you think he's been deliberately silent?

Oh, so he must totally agree with Enzo Fernandez then…

I think Romano is okay. It’s just transfer gossip. It's hardly important what he thinks, or doesn't think, about anything.

It’s suspected he’s on Chelsea’s payroll in some form. There’s a few journalists out there who only spin positive PR for them and present everything they do in a good light. An example would be this (until he had no choice) and also his constant stressing that those dodgy PSR deals were all definitely separate.

No way of knowing if he agrees with it or not but as I’ve said above, he is likely on retainer for Chelsea in some form and avoided reporting it until he kind of had to.

Moreover, he's apparently a transfer specialist.

And yet he tweets about many other things. Including multiple about our pre-season loss.

He never gets involved with putting his 'opinion' on anything. Means he can always say he wasn't wrong / doesn't get involved with the politics of situations. I remember it was the same with the Greenwood stuff. He's a melt.

Yeah he uses very neutral language to avoid ever picking a side or having a view, but what he chooses to post about and the terms used absolutely betrays that. He’s never going to call out City’s dodgy multi club bullshit for example but his reporting of it (“City football group will be signing X to Bahia after transfer to Girona failed, here we go!”) shows he doesn’t give a shit and is at the very least complicit.

yeah, it's garbage behaviour really. I think people are clocking on slowly though. Think Ornstein for example has overtaken him as the one to trust most.

Yeah I think some are but the majority still haven’t noticed or don’t care. He definitely still has his sources and can get exclusives but overall he’s 90% filler. Whereas Ornstein is zero filler all killer.

Overtaken him? Ornstein was always the gold standard and the level above Romano and other journalists.

I’m confused. What are you actually angry about @Solius? No fan of Romano but he did tweet about Enzo. Why are you ranting?

I’m not angry, nor ranting. I do find him irritating though and I’ve explained why in my replies this morning. When I made my initial post he’d still not said anything about it despite not wasting a moment in reporting on our pre season loss. Just because he eventually posted about it doesn’t make it less weird how long it took him. IMO he’s definitely on the Chelsea payroll.

Yeah I've explained why further up. He gets far too many 'exclusives' for their transfers and always uses neutral language when it comes to their dodgy PSR deals, multi-club stuff, etc..

Hmmm. Wouldn’t be surprised in that case.
