Fabio Coentrao

Still no serious sign of Madrid buying/loaning cover in the Spanish press.

The Moreno purchase rumours are still for the summer window.

The most surprising rumour comes from a local news website in Granada that says Madrid have asked if they can get Guilherme Siqueira back from his loan at Benfica and lending/selling him to them instead. This has led to stories in Mundo Deportivo and A Bola for example. Startling if true, I mean why would Madrid make that kind of deal just so we can borrow Coentrao? Perhaps the website just made it up to get more hits. Surely not.

Of course it might be the start of some cunningly beautiful player sharing arrangement between Madrid and us, and Coentrao's part of the courtship ritual

Madrid could forego what they are due on Garay to make this possible.....

Why are we not buying this cnut? feck off Moyes.

Why do people keep banging on about Shaw being a Chelsea fan. There are numerous examples of fans not going to their desired club. If we offer a much better contract (seems unlikely) or a larger bid to Southampton (also seems unlikely) then Shaw will come to us.

For all we know, Chelsea might not have the funds to get him this window. There are numerous possibilities which could result in us signing him.

And if that's the case isn't it completely reasonable?

Yes but we don't normally do business at the last minute of the deadline....i sincerely hope we have all our targets lined up for either January or the summer well before any deadline.

Oh really. Ok, we've never done business late in a window under Fergie. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Apart from Berba under Fergie's reign and Fellaini of course, i can't think of any other big deadline deals.

I also read somewhere that Fergie preferred to get his players early in the summer so they could spend time settling in etc.

Of course, we often did business around May/June under Ferguson. Off top of my head we signed Nani, Anderson, De Gea, Jones and Kagawa well before the transfer window opened, Carrick was signed in the middle of July so he was with us at the beginning of the season. We left Rooney and Berbatov deals late, for good reasons though (we didn't plan on getting Rooney that year but Newcastle's bid forced our hand and Levy was stubborn with Berba).

I think you've answered your own question. The only way we can win a head-to-head with Chelsea is if the player is desperate to join United.

Much as I don't support all this "who'd want to play for Moyes" bollocks, I'd have to admit that the chance to play for Fergie used to sometimes give us an edge, but other than that they'd pretty much have to be a United fan. They're hardly going to come for the weather or the restaurant scene.

Shaw is what? 17/18? still more likely to want to play for his 'boyhood' club than a more mature 25 year old (eg. Ole, who was a liverpool fan as a boy)

Talk sport seem to believe that we are close to signing him on loan.

WTF is it with us and loans for players in their mid 20s this window?

Not sure how it amounts to long-term building.

Nothing wrong with a loan - option to buy.

Actually makes a lot of sense - trying to get through the season best as we can, with whatever means necessary - short term fixes if need be in terms of personnel and tactics. Players that are a part of the long term plan will probably be more viable in the summer window. Besides, lot of loan deals are worked to option to buy at the end. In those situations it gives the club a chance to see if the player really would fit in their long term plans.

If attach the loan with a minimum release clause then I am more then happy.

A loan is the perfect option for a player who is likely to be very rusty and not in best form due to not playing enough matches. Especially when that player was bought for 30 million euros a couple of years ago. Loan him, see if he can get back to a good level and then pay up when everything is going great rather than buy a player who turns out to be a shell of his former self and can't settle.

most probably they re just guessing, after they heard the news about real Madrid closing on sevilla leftback. Considering Bertrand move to villa, rumours of Shaw to Chelsea will soon resurface :)

Not in, out. Much as I'm sad to see Ando on his way, it really should be a permanent deal... surely we've given up on him coming back and staking a place?

Well it's a loan-option to buy which considering how little Anderson has played is fair enough. I think he is completely done playing at United.

Even if he doesn't make it at Fiorentina we'll offload him to Brazil in the Summer, possibly for nothing. If we had any intentions of keeping him we wouldn't have inserted a buyout clause in that loan deal.

Coentrao has not travelled to Sevilla with the Real Madrid team for tomorrow's Betis game.
Enjoy
