Fabio Coentrao

Real Madrid have ligned up Moreno for the summer as a replacement for Coentrao. I think we can easily get Coentrao but not this winter, we'll have to wait untill the summer.
I suppose its plausible we could lose all three current left back options in the summer so even if we have to wait until then...do it!

It has all gone quiet now hasn't it.

I really hope this is still in the works.

After watching Buttner last night. This transfer needs to happen.

There's still no sign of anything happening in Madrid. I don't think we even enquired about him (after the August missed loan) until Evra's injury started to worsen in January

Coentrao and Mata would be a great window for us...make it happen

This is what I want, with my inner muppet. Not as fussed about the likes of Vidal but these two I can see happening and would be a big improvement on our team.

Well let's troll Madrid and go after Moreno now. I'm sure Sevilla would prefer to sell to us.

Don't see Madrid letting him go without a replacement, and apparently they're not getting that till the summer so we'll have to wait as well.

I reckon we can leave this one until the deadline, it's only going to be a loan if it happens.

I reckon this will be a Summer job. Evra can do the deed until the Summer, and Madrid don't have any back ups until they sign Moreno in the Summer. It makes sense.

Madrid were happy for this to go ahead in the summer and surely they didn't have any such back up back then! I think this could happen.

No they weren't.

They pulled out because they couldn't sign Moreno and has anything changed after that?

In the summer wasn't it a different left back? Either way the point stands, they won't sell Coentrao without a replacement.

Telegraph saying Madrid won't let him leave on loan, hence perhaps why the sudden stories about Shaw.

I'd be happy to get Shaw now and try again for him in the summer

I hesitated to bump the thread with a piece of absolutely random, out of nowhere speculation. But eh, this is the transfer forum, deadline day approaches, so why not.

Throughout the Coentrao thing I've been saying that I don't see Madrid releasing him on loan (unless the fee is really good) and they won't release him without a backup in place. I've also said that the only Madrid rumours are about a summer signing of the Sevilla leftback.

Well, something may have changed. Superdeporte (Valencia paper) say that Madrid have been asking about Bernat, the current Spanish U21 leftback. According to Superdeporte his contract ends in 2015.

Of course there are a lot of maybes in there - maybe it's true, maybe it's for January, maybe the player/club are willing, and maybe Coentrao comes tumbling out the other side and into our squad. Maybe.

Just thought I'd mention it though

Well AS are reporting we're going back in for him so you never know. Also heard Milan might be in for Coentrao though. I would be happy if we signed Coentrao.

I don't think Milan in their current state are a luring prospect for footballers, especially the ones that could easily get a move to a much better club. Then again we're likely to miss out on CL as well so regardless which of the two he picks he'll have to do without CL football for a while - we're much more likely to retain a CL spot and get back to the top than Milan are though.

And as fast as the Bernat rumour grows, so it fades again.

Bernat has been playing on the wing a lot this season with Guardado behind him, so I did wonder if it was a runner. However Guardado travelled for a medical with Bayer Leverkusen today.

Bernat's in the Valencia squad for the match with Barcelona.

Banega and Canales, who are for sale, are not in the squad. It's been a busy transfer day for Valencia, Postiga's gone on loan to Roma. Keita has arrived at Valencia on loan.

However, Bernat has not gone in a helicopter to Madrid.

I think we need a left back more than we need a midfielder.
We desperately need a left back.
Not sure I agree with that. Evra is still more than capable of doing the job for us. We don't have adequate cover, but we don't have adequate quality at all in midfield.

Would Lb actually be that much of a concern if Evra wasn't being run into the ground?

Might be a good chance that our early exit from the FA cup has made LB a less pressing concern in the short term, making it a case of looking for Mr. Right, over Mr. Right Now. I'd have imagined Coentrao could have been both though, maybe we've discussed a summer mover with Madrid, when they have a better chance of landing their targets.

have to say I'm disappointed that Coentrao didn't come in the window and tbh fully expected it with Fabio going to Cardiff. Moyes must be pretty damn confident nothing is going to happen to Evra as I cannot see Buttner working for a prolonged period of games.

Baines signing a new deal, Shaw wanting to go Chelsea (it seems) and Madrid having no replacement for Coentrao.. We were never gonna get a left back in imho.

Madrid didn't want to let him go.

He didn't move last summer because Madrid didn't have the replacement they wanted. Nothing has changes since that, as far as I'm aware, which meant he wasn't going to come midway through the season either. Fabio's future had no bearing on things related to Coentrao.

There seem to be this notion going around our fans that the club is the only factor that is collapsing potential signings rather than selling clubs' unwillingness to sell halfway through the season or before they've managed adequate replacements.

I'd be happy with Evra for another season. We need to get in one of Coentrao or Shaw for sure this summer.

Also disappointed. Big fan of his and Real owe us.
