Fabio Coentrao

You're missing the point.

No you're missing the point. Players like Ozil and Sneijder were sold because some flashier player has become available. Coentrao deserves the second choice spot.

Now I am not saying that we shouldn't buy him up. Every player deserves a second chance and I am confident that he can come to OT and do good. However lets stop with this excitement. FFS we're getting Real backup fullback and he deserves to be there.

Apparently they're looking for 20mil in the summer for the permanent deal, and we're only offering 16.

FFS if thats the problem then why don't we just fork out the extra 4m?

Who do you think he is? Fellaini?

I can understand that Woody may be a bit reluctant to spend 20m on Real Madrid's backup fullback. However if he's so worried that he will fail then he can try and arrange a 1 yr loan deal with a minimum clause of 20m attached to it. Real tend to be pretty accomodating when they are getting rid of their old toys

Some of you have an issue with holding out over £4 million, I don't. We obviously set a maximum figure for a player and stick with it. We'll miss out on players, yes. But we don't have an unlimited budget like others, we have pressing needs in other positions.

Moyes clearly doesn't think so given his pursuit of left backs

I wouldn't. He never impressed me defensively + he's getting old.

Shaw on the other hand.....
if Shaw was available yes...but my impression is that the saints are waiting for a huge offer from city or chelsea

I have issues with it when in the summer we were willing to pay extra for Fellaini when we should have got him cheaper.

That was a last minute panic buy and a monumental feck up.
It was never a panic buy. We always wanted him and where always going to sign him. All we did was feck up the negotiations like we did with the Ander Herrera bid and we are likely to do with this Coentrao deal. Refusing to pay up for what we need to and paying over the odds when we don't.

I dunno if we were always going to sign him. Our interest only ever elevated after we'd failed with other options.

With Evra and Fabio probably leaving, left back is swiftly becoming a pressing need.

If we're going for attacking fullbacks, I'd just throw 10 million at Alex Sandro and tell the rest to piss off.

Of course it is, but we don't really have the money to just go out and say feck it, throw them an extra £4 million. We did that with Fellaini and it was just retarded. It all adds up. We need to spread our transfer budget out over at least four players this summer, so we need to stick within our allocated figure for each player.

Moyes and Woodward simply assumed they could force Everton to sell him on the cheap. That is why they let his buy out clause expire. It was when they realised they'd get no one due to playing the fool in the market that they went back to Everton and got what they deserved: an over the odds deal.

If they had any market sense Fellaini would have been their first signing of the summer and they would have spent time chasing more targets than just Fabregas all summer long. And if they think this time around they will able to get big names in the summer, if they don't fix the team right now they will be in for a nasty surprise. Moyes and United wont be a big enough draw outside the champions league for most players from champions league sides.

How do you know this, can I ask? There isn't any evidence to suggest we were always interested in Fellaini. In fact, if I remember correctly he was heavily linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer, not us.

The reports that we were letting his buy out clause expire came out around the same time as Arsenal's and Chelsea alleged interest in him. And our double bid for him and Baines shortly after it expired simply confirmed those suspicions...

Whats amazing is that if we wanted to really get players in this January, why hasn't there been any bids rejected as yet (publicly). Yes we keep our council, but most clubs, agents and players tend to blab.
We have heard nothing of any substance and its the 14th of the month.
FFS, its going to be another transfer window of nothing or a shitty panic buy...

If we keep on working in that way then we will probably end up not signing anyone.

Oh wait, unless we panic on transfer deadline and end up spending ridiculous money on..

There's nothing to be ashamed of taking Real's second choice especially when the talent in question are the likes of Ozil and Sneijder who were sold to give way to flashier player. However

A) Coentrao deserves the no 2 spot
B) There's nothing to be so thrilled about signing him.
Do you always find a way to complain? I mean that in a respectful way. We need a new LB and being second position to Marcelo is nothing to worry about for us. He was good last season and was partially responsible for slaughtering our right side away from home to Real Madrid.

I am not complaining at all. I am only saying that we shouldnt be carried away too much that's all.

For those naming him as a number two to Marcelo, can I ask... Which LB would displace Marcelo in that team genuinely? I can't think of one.
