Fabio Coentrao

Didn't Baines turn Bayern Munich down a couple of years back? They are pretty big.

I like the idea of loan signings gives us a better chance if top 4 but also gives time for moyes to fully settle in before spending more cash (no more Fellaini feck ups)

You could tell they were wayyy better than us.

Bayern didnt deserve to go through.
We didn't deserve to go through after self-destructing. Robben was incredible that season too.

They were an aging side who almost had one big hurrah before they all got replaced and since then they've rebuilt to make an 'outstanding' team.

I reckon we are waiting on Madrid to bring in a replacement left back again before they let him go.

In a way, a swap loan deal for Evra could work...

They have a high quality back up who if not playing every game will be very good. We get a 25 year old who should be able to cope with playing every game.

Yes I know Corntrao had injury problems and it's a ridiculous idea in anything other than theory but I'm just throwing it out there for shits and gigs.

Sorry of it has been asked before, but is he available to play on UCL? He hasn't played there this year, but I think that he was on Madrid's 25 players list so I am not sure how the rules are.

I think you have to play to be cup tied, even if it's as a last second sub. It's a fooked up rule that has no benefit.

It makes perfect sense. It means that clubs that go out in the group stages have their players protected from being placed by the clubs still in it come January.

Balague says Madrid want to wait until summer to sell, as they want to recoup a fair bit of the fee they paid. Makes sense since it's world cup year.

The clubs have contracts to help them keep their players.
If that's part of the reason, then why not make it that you can only pick players you registered at the start of the season, that way it's fair to all clubs, including those not playing in Europe.

I can understand loan players not being eligible if their parent club also plays in Europe, but that's it.

@Vato1979 Can you give us an idea of what he's like Vato?
I've always liked Coentrao. He's too good to sit on the bench so much, would be a starter for most top clubs I reckon. He's just unlucky we have Marcello (which I slightly prefer) in his favourite position.

For specifics I'd ask jojojo, Skorenzy or one of the other football geeks, they'll probably have seen him play more than myself anyway.

Is he good at defending though?

I'm going to try to say this without sounding too pretentious, but if he's good enough to play for Madrid and the Portugese national team I don't think you need to worry too much.

He's a great player defensively as well as in attack, at least for me.

I've seen him once for Portugal and he looked the business. Based on that and that alone I have no cause for concern whatsoever.

Can't say I've seen him for Madrid but then not many could claim to.

I have no doubt that he's good enough as an overall footballer. I found him impressive before his move to real. Just wondering how he is defensively. Is he strong in that area too like Evra used to be or us he always a bit dodgy like Evra now is? Either way he looks the ideal left back for us to sign. He's at a good age, technically very strong and has pace. Plus he's at a huge club but has another very good fullback for company, so he probably wants out too because he needs to start.

If he joins i can see him on occasion playing LW with Evra at LB

It's about time Madrid repay us for Ruud and Ronaldo! ;)

...hands off Januzaj though. No sweetners happening here buddy!

edit: forgot about Heinze

Don't mention Heinze or they'll cancel the deal.

Beckham, though. Significantly below his market value and did reasonably well there too.

Coentrao can also play in midfield and while it's not his prefered position he did quite well there when called upon at Madrid and would probably be better than most of our midfielders too just due to his talent.

He did reasonably well there. * Never replicated his form of his first year for us but was a decent player for Madrid (about the same level as his third season for us).

I might be biased a bit cause he was my favorite player in the world for around 3 years.
