F1 2024 Season

Piastri actually ruined what was a great battle and let Max just do his thing. McLaren need to start being ruthless if they want to win these things.

Yep was a great race then ruined by tyre management. I want to see racing not conserving tyres

SPIELBERG, Austria -- After months of speculation over his future, Max Verstappen has confirmed he will remain at Red Bull in 2025, ruling out a switch to rivals Mercedes.

This from today.

Martin Brundle is not convinced that the Max Verstappen to Mercedes transfer saga is over yet despite the World Champion hinting that he will remain with Red Bull for F1 2025.
Despite holding a contract until the end of the F1 2028 season, Verstappen has been heavily linked with a move away from Red Bull amid the off-track dramas engulfing the team.
Max Verstappen to Mercedes back on for F1 2025?
Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team boss, has made no secret of his desire to sign the three-time World Champion as the successor to Lewis Hamilton, who announced in February that he will join Ferrari on a multi-year contract from F1 2025.
PlanetF1.com revealed ahead of last month’s Monaco Grand Prix that Mercedes had cooled their interest in Carlos Sainz, the driver Hamilton will replace at Ferrari, in order to keep tabs on Verstappen’s situation at Red Bull.
However, Wolff told media including PlanetF1.com at last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix that Mercedes are no longer in “talks” with Verstappen, amid growing expectations that the team will promote 17-year-old sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli as George Russell’s new team-mate.
I don't think Max to Mercedes in 25 was ever likely in fairness. It was always suggested for 2026 when the new regs come in. No Newey and RB potentially being down on power compared to Mercedes was what was driving the rumours.

Mclaren will change their approach tomorrow as there will will be a race win on the line, probably wasn't worth the risk for the Sprint race.

If it’s the same starting grid tomorrow, Norris has a great chance. 2v1 McLaren and Red Bull gives them a strategic advantage to get Norris ahead of Max. And they might have a lead which they can maintain for this year but Perez’ lacklustre performance may well cost them the constructors championship next year.

Alonso having engine issues.

Alonso said this in the last race with this engine.

Quote
We have had an engine problem since the beginning of the week. But this will be the last race with this engine and it had to be used at some point. It is better not to put a too good engine at the moment when we are not in the points, so it will be a difficult race," he added, highlighting some failure in his Mercedes engine.

Alonso barely made it to Q2.

Perez should be ashamed putting these times on new tyres.

Ok, so Max miles clear then. Battle for 2nd looks interesting though.

Did Perez car not get all the needed upgrades that Max has? It’s just a 1min odd track but the difference is huge

Nico Hulkenberg has made it through to Q3, but is going to be investigated after the session for some pit lane shenanigans.

Hulkenberg may have breached the rule by edging out in front of Sergio Perez.

Perez and Ocon don't have new sets of soft tyres left for Q3
