F1 2024 Season

I'd take a joker lap at every track over even one sprint session

OK I have watched it again, and yeah I conceded it’s not all Mags faults. Agree Perez could’ve pulled out but made the choice not to, calculated risk that failed.
Helmet Marko has said it's a $2-$3million rebuild. That's gonna hurt under the cost cap.

Read elsewhere that Perez sells 65% of RedBull merchandising (he's plastered everywhere in Mexico ) as well as bringing in $50mil a year in sponsorship to RedBull.

No wonder they are happy to keep him. For comparison if they got Sainz, he would bring around $2million in sponsorship money. You can see why RedBull and team Verstappen would be happy to keep him as a no2 driver.

Don't watch F2, is antonelli really that good? Almost certain he will be in the F1 Mercedes next season.

Totto's idea of parking him at Williams seems dead in the water seeing as Bottas, Sainz etc are all linked to the other seat.

So just an update on this, I've seen a few F1 sources (by no means dramatically reliable) say that Antonelli at Silverstone was matching Russell's quali setup times and was slightly quicker in race pace. If this is true, then I can't see any scenario with them not putting him in the second Mercedes seat next season.

It looks the most likely option. Especially as they have ruled out Sainz. I expect the only reason it won't be confirmed till close to end of season is that totto is clinging onto his Max Verstappen in a Mercedes delusion.

WOW that’s a huge rebuild cost and Perez brings in more than golden boy  yeah I can see now why they keep him .

Helmet Marko on Monaco

"...We had more trouble riding the kerbs, but we had the kangaroo in play. That was adapted relatively well for qualifying and we could assume that Max would have made it to the front row. But of course when you have a car that is so nervous, even a driver like Max can make a mistake.

In addition, he tried to get the best possible time in the first sector, because that was the only sector where we were faster than the Ferraris. And he did everything he could to minimise the time lost in the other sectors.

The problem starts in the simulator, which signaled that the car was going over the curbs perfectly. Simply put, that means that the simulator and reality don't correlate. And Monaco wasn't the first race track where we had this problem; it was the first time that it was relatively severe in Singapore. The simulator spat out something that didn't correspond to reality. That's the first point we'll address.

We are optimistic that we can at least find out why the simulator produces data that does not correspond to reality. But Montreal could also be a difficult weekend for us..."

At least there are finally some problems with them, after two years. We really don't need change of rules now.

Could Newey taking a back seat further complicate the setup or understanding of the car I wonder. They spent 11 hours on the simulator with an ex F1 driver trying to find a setup in a previous race. During the Monaco race I don't think I've ever seen Horner looking so puzzled. Street fighter Perez looking even worse.

With Newey taking a back seat it's more correlation than causation. It's simply down to the fact that a bumpy circuit cannot fully be replicated in a wind tunnel or on a simulator. RB's car success is it's floor hugging the track and the more that car is elevated from the track, then the more the ground effect disconnects from the floor thus losing some level or downforce and balance.

As @dinostar77 previously pointed, out the next tracks like Canada and Barcelona will give Red Bull more competitive edge than what they've seen at Imola & Monaco due to how smooth they are. I hope that's wrong and we see an ultra competitive field for both races but everything points towards a strong Red Bull performance.

Mid-level is a bit harsh but the brain drain is a real issue for them. But I do expect them to show real strength with the 26 engine regs, remains to be seen if they have the car to match it.

First time I have seen it, will check it out more.
Those were that strangest looking wings I have seen !

He was on vegan ones.

It's a great show, the spice really disarms people and Sean is a really good interviewer. So many guests comment on how well researched his questions are. Definitely recommend going through the channel for other people you’re interested in.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a seat, he's a race winner.
Problem is where for 2025. It currently looks like

Mercedes
Russell
Antonelli

Ferrari
Leclerc
Hamilton

RedBull
Verstappen
Perez

McLaren
Norris
Piastri

Stake
Hulkenberg
Bottas/Zhou

RB
Riccardo
Tsundoa

Williams
Albion
Sainz ?

Haas
K Mag ?
?????

Alpine
Gasly
?????

Kmag and Ocon would result in alot of expensive repair bills and DNFs. Also Ferrari may want to park Oliver Bearman at Haas to learn his trade. Maybe Haas bin off Kmag for Ocon. But that's hardly getting a better driver.

Williams would take Sainz over everyone else available. If Sainz decides Stake/Audi is to far behind to catch up anytime soon. Williams maybe his best bet. Also the rumour mill is that the Mercedes power train for 2026 is mighty impressive, which Williams will be running.

Ocon doesn't have much choice imho.

I only just read the BBC news article that Ocon is leaving Alpine at the end of the year. He’s quick but a very difficult team mate to have, which isn’t always good for a team. It rules out any of the big teams and he should be way behind the likes of Sainz in finding a seat.

Perez confirmed to be stinking up the place at RBR for two more years. Apparently RBR have lost the plot completely.

Not sure what Perez has done to justify a contract extension. Yuki was looking rapid this year and would’ve been a good promotion within the Red Bull organisation.

Hate to say this but it makes sense with Max being their golden goose and Perez being a huge commercial presence in Mexico. I can't see them winning the constructor's though. It's easy to see them coming third next season.

Yep basically this. Perez brings in $50mil a year in sponsorship. Also accounts for over 65% of RedBull Merchandising. Plus he knows he's a no2. Not the best no2, but he won't get in Max's way.

Sainz wouldn't accept being a no2, plus only brings in $2mil a year in sponsorship. Plus Horner doesn't want to piss off the Verstappen group.

You can see why they kept him.

Absolutely ridiculous that they've extended Perez for another couple of years, does not deserve it in any way.

Holy feck that’s boring from Red Bull, can’t get off the sponsorship teet.

Not shocked Perez has a new contract, I believe he brings in a ton of money in sponsorship and merchandise sold.
He does but RBR don't really need it. The Oracle deal alone brings in the budget cap yearly. There are expenses outside of the cap of course but still, they don't need the money. There's so many better drivers out there it's ridiculous. If next season is anything like this one it could easily cost them the constructors title.

True they dont really need the money, there is maybe Max wanted him to stay ?
