Everton Ribeiro

Not sure if you place much stock in what Vickery says but according to him he started out as a LB which didn't suit him and as a result he was dropped from the U20's and sold by Corinthians. Since then he's reinvented himself as an AM.

The Brazilian Gareth Bale!

Maybe we want him to replace Evra.:D

It's hard to get past the fact he's 24 and these days that's old for a player to come to Europe. Then there's the fact that (as far I can see) he's really only had one season in the top division in Brazil. Nor is he a full international, though I know for Brazilian players that aspect of the work permit rule often gets waived.

I know some players are late developers but there's usually reason for it - missed the youth scouting boat, physical development, injury, personal problems - but he was with Corinthians and a U20 international. So what happened? Does anybody watch enough Brazilian football to know how/why he was off the radar for a couple of years and then came back to become a star?

Now let's add the phrase attacking midfielder/goalscoring midfielder. Where does he play and where might he play for us?

If the player hasn't played 75% of international matches in the last two years the club can ask for his skills and experience to be considered.

"In these cases the FA will refer the club's evidence to an independent panel (please see Panel Terms of Reference and Operating Procedures).
The remit of the panel is:
 To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre.
 To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in England."

The end product of all this (if successful) is a GBE (Governing Body Endorsement) which is the main component of the work permit application.

I'm also interested in where we see him fitting in - would we have another Kagawa on our hands?

We need someone who doesn't slow things down, especially during counter-attacks. He looks like he's always finding a way to go through.

If people wants creativity this guy will probably provide a bit more than that and if price shall be way below 20 millions it may be a really good deal.

If he wants to come to us, and he's the type of player we need, then we'd be fools to turn him down. Money might be an issue as Brazilian clubs tend to hold out for the maximum (well from recent transfers anyway).

I've heard 8 million, it's probably bullshit as I've no idea how true that is.

Rumour is Madrid have bid 7 mil but they're expecting a 12 mil bid from us.

There's no sign of him in the Spanish press apart from in coverage of the Brazilian league. The main Madrid forums haven't got the rumour either. Sport and a couple of other papers quoted the Daily Mail story today. If Madrid are active then they're being very quiet about it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but he looks like the sort of player Mendes buys half of and takes to Portugal to build up his work permit and transfer fee case.

Rumours are from the tinternet. There's no stock in them. Just the noises on the wind.

I wonder if there will ever be a player called Manchester United

Closest thing we'll get is if we sign a "MAN" called "CHESTER"

As he's 24 years of age, I don't think that's really worth it.

Just me that thinks he looks a bit shit?

I'd sooner see the 8 million people are speaking of in this case go towards a cumulative purchase of eventual sure things like Reus and Draxler.

i don't understand where he will play?
i don't think he can be a part of a midfield two behind our two strikers. we don't need a no.10, we already have rooney and kagawa.
he does not seem like a winger. plus he does not seem all that great to me(from youtube videos). Do not want. Baines and a CM please

Was listening to Tim Vickery the other day on BBC's WFPI. He said experts in Brasil didn't think he was capable of the season he's just had, they just didn't see it in him. He didn't say it overtly, but it seemed like people in Brasil think of him as a flash in the pan, a James Beattie if you will.

We're Manchester United, we also take risks and create world stars.

Man Utd target Everton Ribeiro is just focusing on life in Brazil

MANCHESTER United transfer target Everton Ribeiro has previously spoken about his admiration for the Premier League champions but is concentrating on life with Cruzeiro.

Ribeiro is enjoying life at Cruzeiro but has spoken of his admiration for United [GETTY]
Ribeiro won the award for the best player in the Brazilian top flight last season and helped Cruzeiro to the Brasileiro Serie A and Copa Libertadores qualification.
The Brazilian acknowledged that there was talk of a move, but he is focussed on his current club.
Ribiero said: "There is a lot of speculation but for now I am just enjoying my vacations.

"I'll present myself at Cruzeiro on 6 January to have a good pre-season and another great year at Cruzeiro."

It seems that Ribeiro wants to fulfil a dream and play in the Copa Libertadores, but once he has achieved that, the midfielder isn't ruling anything out.
"I don't know what will happen after Libertadores. Football is very dynamic, I'll do like I did this year, step by step
.

"Everything is working out little by little, Cruzeiro have a great squad, everyone treats me well and I am very happy there."

The lad is making the normal sounds.

Hilarious how many are willing to write him off as being shit based on 1 minute of youtube footage....A coupld of years ago I remember loads saying Neymar would be another Robinho based on 2 minutes of youtube footbage before he started becoming the player most Brazilians felt he would become......Fernandinho of Man city is 28.....Ribeiro is 24...I doubt too many fans on here would have wanted us to sign Fernandinho of City 4 years ago after watching 2 mins of youtube footage of him.....

I think it's more that people who've only seen a couple of Youtube minutes aren't willing to write him on - either as an answer to our midfield's prayers or even as a target in anyone other than his agent's and the Daily Mail's mind.

I don't know about anyone else but I'd love to hear someone on here say, "Yes, I've been watching him regularly - he'd be great for us."

As for the Fernandinho comparison or what he'll be like when he's 28. If he goes to play for Shaktar for 8 years or spends a couple of years in Portugal - then maybe more of us will know who they're talking about, the next time the press talks about us buying him.

Brazilian player of the year, he must be decent. Of all the players that we are linked to, he is probably the only one who is available.

Should sign him just to see the media go nuts with the Moyes and Everton headlines ;)

Ribeiro's Gazza goal was voted best goal of last season in Brazil. Here it is again.

I reckon this lad is everything we need. Also cheap. Seeing some rumours online that we're going to sign him this month but he won't be joining us until the summer window.

Player of the year yet doesn't get a sniff in the national team and hasn't found a move before now considering he's 24, something seems off.

Some players are late developers, seems it's mainly due to a change of position. Brazil have so many players to choose from, it's not that strange that he hasn't been called up yet.

Rafael barely gets a sniff either, and Maicon is preferred as a back up to Alves. Even Jo and Ronaldinho are still getting games. I think something is off with the whole national team.

Yeah good point, I haven't seen him play so I cant judge his ability I just thought something seemed off.

Might just be a late developer but I tend to agree with you, I think. A player like this would need to have a few quality seasons in a row before I'd be convinced. Signing him after one fantastic season would be a risk.

Well we're obviously not gonna fork out the cash for established stars so risk signings like this are the only way to go I'm afraid.

I didn't know Kleberson was Brazilian league player of the year as well.

It doesn't mean all that much. In recent years Ronaldinho and Adriano won it while long past their peak, Dario Conca and Thiago Neves wouldn't get in our team and the only recent winner who is the real deal is Neymar. Maybe 10 years ago it meant something but not any more.

Why is that? Is it because the player of the year is generally awarded to someone who doesn't deserve it or is the quality in the league just not that high?
