Everton Ribeiro

The club have already said there are reasons they spoke publicly about Fabregas. The fact they explained that just shows it's not how they'd normally do it.
The point stands that we talked about transfers more last summer than we'd ever done before. I don't think it's as simple as saying if a player talks about coming here it isn't happening because we keep things quiet. It doesn't always happen that way, and is a lazy generalisation that is trotted out too much.

What were the reasons? Must have missed that.

Perhaps so. But which of our recent signings talked about it in the press beforehand? Most actually deny the deal more than anything.
I don't know, I try to ignore most of the white noise around transfers. I just think it's lazy to think we keep everything secret, who are we? The CIA?

It was something about the way Barca do business. I can't remember the exact reasons.

Something about the club supporters having a say in club business and that's why the Fabregas bid had to be made public.

Ah right yes they are a club owned by the fans, so they cannot do things in secret I assume.

Fair enough then, makes sense why that 1 was so loud.

Also makes sense why we never actually talked about Thiago - that he was never a true option.

Man United target Everton Ribeiro would prefer a move to Old Trafford over Real Madrid

MANCHESTER United transfer target Everton Ribeiro has made it clear he would prefer to join the Premier League Champions over a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Ribeiro claimed the award for the best player in the Brazilian top flight last season as he guided his team, Cruzeiro, to the Brasileiro Serie A title.
And United manager David Moyes is desperate to land the £8m rated playmaker as he tries to spice up his blunt midfield.
Ribeiro said: “Yes, I would prefer that [to join Manchester United].
"The structure they have in place is one of the best in the world. I have been there already and went to a lecture by Alex Ferguson when I was younger.
“I feel I am ready to play in any part of the world. If you play for Cruzeiro, you can play in any place.
"I would fit in any part of the midfield. I would do well as a playmaker to support the attack.”
United face a unique obstacle in signing the 24-year-old because he is only 60% owned by his club Cruzeiro, with the 40% belonging to a third party.

The champions have been in touch with the Brazilian FA to find the best route to securing the players signature.

The lad is making all the right noises. I'm thinking this may be my official endorsement of muppetry for the coming January transfer season. Which normally means we won't sign him.

He's not stupid. He's got a bigger chance of making it at OT then at Real.

I have seen pretty much nothing of this lad.Do folk on here want?

After only seeing a couple of youtube videos. The fact he's called Everton and will allow for some great Moyes Evetrton headlines plus the fact he's Brazilian, I do want.

I have banned myself from watching You Tube videos on players. His name is hilarious and the press must be hoping it happens for writing their headlines.Brazilian means nothing after enduring Ando for all these years and so I am non the wiser.I might have a peak at his stats.

Not all youtube videos are useless. I find the ones where they show all the player did in a match are fantastic. Remember for every Anderson there's a Rafael.

I have just watched one! I feel disgusted with myself but secretly enjoyed it  He has a goal in him it seems and looks powerful and a good dribbler.I'll put my pants back on call Moysey!

Although I'm all for signing someone who can do this

and now for the youtube compilation vid to make it look like he's the most amazing player ever

The Cruzeiro president has already made a he's not going anywhere, no offers and the money suggested is to little. I see an upcoming transfer saga.

I already want to punch the 300,000 people on twitter who will make the "OMG, Everton just scored for United!!" joke

Young, Brazillian, talented midfielder with a 'drive', great potential, nothing can go wrong, right guys.... ?

Most professional footballers would look great highlighting their best moments for a few minutes on a video.

I doubt a Fletcher compilation would look like a Ribiero one though.

All the videos on this page are from just this season.

It's hard to get past the fact he's 24 and these days that's old for a player to come to Europe. Then there's the fact that (as far I can see) he's really only had one season in the top division in Brazil. Nor is he a full international, though I know for Brazilian players that aspect of the work permit rule often gets waived.

I know some players are late developers but there's usually reason for it - missed the youth scouting boat, physical development, injury, personal problems - but he was with Corinthians and a U20 international. So what happened? Does anybody watch enough Brazilian football to know how/why he was off the radar for a couple of years and then came back to become a star?

Now let's add the phrase attacking midfielder/goalscoring midfielder. Where does he play and where might he play for us?

Not sure if you place much stock in what Vickery says but according to him he started out as a LB which didn't suit him and as a result he was dropped from the U20's and sold by Corinthians. Since then he's reinvented himself as an AM.

Anderson!

I can see it now.

United vs Everton.
Everton go 1-0 up.
A mate texts me to ask what's the latest and I'd say "Everton scored".
He'd reply with "YES! Come on United. He's so good".
"No, Everton the team scored".
"Oh"

This seems to me like a case of a player using our name to raise his profile and try to get a move to Europe. If we were really interested we'd have told him to shut up.

His quotes come from responses to journalists. It will all probably be proved that he hasn't said a word by tomorrow but for today and for Christmas, there's the best player in the Brazilian league saying he'd rather join United instead of Real Madrid. I'm taking that one along with my Christmas whiskey.
