Everton Ribeiro

He seems interested in coming here, let's see what happens. Sounds like another deal we could get done though.

Well they've admitted they will be having a meeting over it and the bid rejected are still negotiating so it sounds like they've let it slip to seem as if they're trying to keep him. Pure unadulterated muppet conjecture on my part though. I reckon this one could be a goer.

I haven't seen anything of this guy but I think it's fair to say that the story of his career so far is enough to create doubts over him as a signing. From what I've read he's had one very good season at a level most commentators didn't think he was capable of. As such he'd certainly be a risky signing as there's no guarantee he can sustain that form at his current level, let alone bring it to a top European club.

He was previo being played at Left Back though from what I've read. You can probably imagine why an attacking midfielder might not stand out as a defender.

Is he going to be a first team player? Don't need any more squadies.

Much as we need world class midfielder(s), I wouldn't object to another body in the middle if they were at a level above our other squad options, considering that for the spot next to Carrick we have Fletcher (who's done well since his return but is a long way off reaching his best), Cleverley who has been frustrating, Fellaini who's been disappointing, Giggs who may well retire after this season, Anderson who's off to Fiorentina, and Jones who really should be playing CB.

Yay just what we need. More unproven players with potential.

Yeah he started out as a (not brilliant) left back, then reinvented himself as a midfielder. That just furthers my point though, he's never been an outstanding talent and one very good season for Cruzeiro isn't a lot to rate him on. That's without factoring in the higher standard and physicality he'd have to adjust to in the PL.

So they're letting bidders know they're getting them. I like the look of him. Reminds me of Juninho.

We even feckin' fail with bids to Brazilian clubs.

Wonder if Dave is tempted to put him back into the left-back position? feck knows why we're going for this fella.

Cruzeiro confirmed a bid from us which was rejected. That's the act of a club inviting interest from other bidders.

I think he'd be a good signing personally, only seen him play the once but he looks good carrying the ball forward and looking at his stats he's got the eye for a pass, a good crosser and technically very good.

Certainly more exciting that Valencia.

We have become very shit in the market in recent years. Have we let the transfer department be taken over by candidates off the apprentice or something?

Agreed if we can pick him up for £15 mil he'd be worth it just to have a big improvement on Valencia/Young. Doubt he's going to be a top class player considering he is 24 and was unheard of a year or so ago so I wouldn't be comfortable spending big money on him.

I've only read bid from "unnamed club" of £10m. Has it now been confirmed it was United?

I thought we were considering him as a back-up/future left-back?

I hope not, he's an attacking midfielder.

Think he used to play there but he's far from it now.

There are now reports that Cruzeiro have confirmed it to be United with the failed bid.

Well, if United have bid, I can see them going back with an increased number. Enough to tempt the Brazilian club...?

Fair enough, my bad..

So, how good is he? Because we have plenty of attacking midfielders, and have turned downed the opportunity to sign quality in the same position.

Do we just hopefully bid for anybody whos any good these days or do we actually have future plans for this kid?

We ignore good players all the time.. that's our problem!

I get your point though.. do we need this kid? I don't mind buying players we don't 'need' if they're quality or have huge potential. I have no idea what bracket this guy is though..

I've only seen him in action once and it was a League game I just happened to watch about 30/40 minutes of. He looked comfortable on the ball, don't remember him being the quickest but a good dribbler and keen to cut inside as much as he would go outside but he was up against a typical Brazilian full back who loathed going back to his own half so finding space wasn't an issue.

Other than that I've only checked his stats and they make fair reading. An assist in every 3 games and a goal or assist in ever two.

I wouldn't like to guess his potential but he's the type of player that could be a refreshing change to Valencia IMO.

We need proven quality. Not a load more 'projects'.

I read that Cruzeiro have revealed the bid came from 'English Investors' , as opposed to an English club.

Paolo Freitas said this by the way, before everyone jumps on me asking for sauce.

Id just like for once, like Bayern, Barca and Madrid, we could identify a target that will improve us, go for them, and get them, no stupidly low bids we know wont get accepted or arsing around, like we did with RVP, its like every single player we look at these days we either conceed to other teams, not meet the teams valuation, or get a poor substitute of who we really dont want.

After everyone we've been named to be after, he's the cheapest. I reckon it's worth a punt on him. It will probably take him 6 months to get used to life here anyway. We'll still be in for the main proven targets this summer.

I think that he will be worth a punt at 12m. And that is a punt these days for a top club! If he flops at that price nobody will be losing any sleep.

I'll wait until the Professor level football posters chime in on this.

Thanks for waiting. Now..

Ribeiro is an excellent player who is shit. He will massively improve our team and is a total waste of money. There are much better players out there and he is just the sort of player we need to stop letting pass us by. He can both play and not play in a midfield two.
