Everton 2017/2018 thread

Of course they'll miss Lukaku! He's a world class striker. They didn't have a choice though did they really and did well to hold onto him as long as they did. Sandro looks decent though and I think once he settles he could prove very good. Calvert-Lewin also looks very lively and yes, they will look to share the goals out. Klaassen scores a few, Sigurdsson too, with Coleman also worth a few and then Rooney, Sandro, Mirallas etc.

I am worried. Lukaku going speaks for itself with the amount of goals he scored. Barkley going missing has taken all creativity out of the team . Some Evertonians need to wake up how much we are going to miss Barkley. We need to add a proven goalscorer , a creative midfielder and a winger before the window closes.

Yeah, I'm not seeing a lot of goals in this Everton side. The forwards and Rooney in particular have been discussed a lot but there's also not a lot of additional threat. Schneiderlin and Gueye will run for days but assuming both will start the vast majority of matches neither will add much to the attacking play. Add to that Coleman's injury and Baines slowing down and the team looks functional, a solid platform for an attack that I think will be slow and ponderous with the current personnel.

Siggy would be completely worht the 50m. I think we will get him.

Even in the current market Sigurdsson isn't a £50m player. He wasn't good enough for Spurs and although he may have improved a little I think £40m is the absolute top amount for him. He will add a few goals though but not enough for that sort of money.

I must say, I watched the Everton game (to see Rooney) and Morgan Schneiderlin was the worst player on the field. He only ever plays the ball square or backwards. When looking forward IF he ever does turn and look forward, he gets the ball stuck on his foot and then gets put under pressure. He was worthless for them today. He's a Van Gal player........ NEVER give the ball away, always play it back.

On a positive note, I thought Wayne looked very good today and the midfielder Idrissa Guyeye looked nice too.

I watched the first half and Jagielka was equally bad. Everton were horrible in general.

Don't know why Koeman played with three CBs tbh. It massively reduced Schneiderlin's passing options in midfield and weakened the wings. Then again, the slow tumescent play suited Rooney, which could be the reason.

On a side note, with both teams in a match playing three CBs, we'll 'get' to see more matches like these. Remember the Mexico-Holland game in 2014 WC? Yep, and Bruno Martins-Indi is now in the PL as well..

The reason we are playing with 3 at the back is because Coleman is out in my opinion. We don't have anyone else like him and Baines and they're integral to our play. We looked much better when we reverted to 4 at the back however. Pickford looked great, i love how commanding he is and he's in complete control of his box, Keane was also impressive. Sandro looked exciting but very raw, he'll be excellent in some games this season i feel but in others rotten. Klaassen and Schneiderlin looked very poor, hopefully with the latter he just needs to pick up the pace a bit. Gueye is incredible, one of the best midfielders in the league, i think he's everything that people say about Kante but he actually is that good even when his midfield partner is playing gash. Rooney was uninspiring until his goal which gave him an abundance of confidence and he looked quality after that.

We have the foundations of an exciting team, just need a top quality creative outlet now. Super relieved we managed a win though as our next 4 league games could all easily be losses, especially with EL ties wedged in between them.

another thing that changed for Rooney was the position he was playing, while in the first half he played up top most of the time in the second he was played as a 10 which is a less physical role that puts more focus on his passing. Think the only thing Kante has on Gueye is speed while Gueye is slightly better on the ball.

They have a strong team now. Clearly better than the other mid-table clubs but also clearly a few levels below the top 6. I can see them struggling to score goals without Lukaku. Sandro Ramirez and Rooney will struggle to fill that void. Sigurdsson will probably take Davy Klaasen's spot.

People overrate Neverton here.

Sigurdsson is a slow number 10. They already had Rooney.

There is no pace in Everton's side they will struggle this season.

Sandro

Gylfi

Baines Schneiderlin Gueye Klaassen Calvert-Lewin

Williams Jagielka Keane

Pickford

Sigurdsson will be a very good signing for them. Not only is he technically very competent, he has incredible work rate and that will definitely suit Koeman.

Williams and Jagielka are finished at the highest level.

Klassen is dodgy. Sandro?! Schneiderlin is a clogger. Gueye is class and will be at a big club next summer.

They won't drop Rooney. Their long lost son has to play.

Rooney will be stinking out the place before long. He was awful in the EL qualifier. His header will save him for awhile. Had Barkley stayed, he'd have zero chance at redemption. 50/50 right now.

Yep, should be an excellent fit for them. Hearing it's a club record fee for Everton as well so good on them.

9 goals and 13 assists last season, not bad at all considering he was one of the main reasons as to why Swansea had the year they did. Fwiw, only KDB (18) and Eriksen (15) had more assists. From what I know he's also a set piece specialist which will definitely be an added bonus for Everton.

£45M for one of the best stacking midfielders in the EPL isn't too shabby or what I'd call bad business considering other price tags and fees that have already gone in the market. Good signing this. However I'm afraid Everton is assembling one of the slowest sides in the league lol

You are spot on about his set piece prowess, it was a big part of why Llorente had a good season for us.
Regarding the bolded bit, I fully agree, Siggy has many talents but pace is definitely not one of them, even at a club like Swansea it could be a hindrance as he started many games out wide and was fairly useless there. Luckily Tom Carroll was signed and he tends to drift to the left wing in his midfield role and it allowed Siggy to stay central. I can see Everton struggling due to their lack of pace, especially with Bolasie out.

Sigurdsson is a good signing for them, for sure. Keane, Williams and, when fit, Funes Mori, are good from corners and he'll deliver great balls. He'll create a lot, score a few but have to agree with the comment that he's slow. Everton definitely need more pace but Lookman and Calvert-Lewin are both quick.

No player ran further than Sigurdsson in the Premier League last term and, as said, that work rate will definitely please Koeman. I think £45m is too much though but it gets harder and harder to judge these days. If they can get £30m+ for Barkley their overall outlay will be pretty minimal.

Don't think Sigurdsson is what they need at all.

Perhaps seen as a bit of a replacement for Barkley?

Regardless, I think Siggy is a quality player who should do well for Everton.

Sigurdsson is a very good player and will do well for them. As a little bonus Spurs had a 10% sell-on fee so we earned a few million from the deal as well.

I think they are a striker away from mounting a decent challenge for top 4. I mean someone like Giorou. Still, them making top 4 would require two teams to have massive, season-long, blip in form. don't see it personally. However, they could try to get to the CL via Europa League.

Pace of play is more important. You don't need fast players if you move the ball quickly.
