Everton 2017/2018 thread

Right now I'm pretty confident that he'll outscore any of your strikers this season.

Not sure about that. We will be getting someone in, more of a target man. Hernandez is on the decline, is absolutely useless from outside the area, and his goal scoring over the last few years isn't really that great. He's averaged 10 goals a season since SAF retired and has scored about 4 goals in 23-25 of his last appearances.

We've lost Lukaku's 25 goals but brought in a few players who can and probably will score over 10 goals each to replace them. That's before we bring in a striker.

We do need to address the lack of pace upfront though.

Just realised we have signed Burnleys captain, Ajax's captain, Uniteds captain?, And Swanseas captain in the last two summer windows. Got a lot of leaders now.

Everton have got loads of leaders and I think Pickford is a leader too, plus Jagielka. I definitely think Pickford is the best signing Everton have made though. Let's hope he has a blinder tonight against City!

I think Tom Heaton was Burnley's captain.

Well they looked shit yesterday but when you get some perspective, it's a point away at City so it's a good point imo.

Credit to CL, he looked very good.

They badly lack pace. I don't see the point in the Sigurdsson signing at all. Between him, Rooney and Klaassen, that's a serious lack of pace. So far, Klaassen doesn't look up to it at all. Much like Clasie at Southampton, who looked good in the Eredivisie but has looked totally out of his depth in the PL. Still early days of course, but I feel Everton's lack of pace will hinder them.

Yeah they're really really slow. I'd be wary of saying Klaassen is like Clasie. He can't be that bad, can he? His early showings might be saying yes, though :nervous:

To be fair, Klaassen done far more in the Eredivisie than Clasie done, both at team and individual level. Obviously it's very early days, but he has looked poor so far. He could well turn it around, no doubt about that. I remember a-few years back both Clasie and Adam Maher were being tipped as future midfield stars for Holland, that didn't go so well.

Jesus Adam Maher. I remember I used to sign him in Fifa career mode all the time. Completely forgot about him. Assume it's not gone too well for him since then?

I haven't heard anything about him in years but he was on loan at a Turkish outfit called Osmanlıspor, last season and hasn't been capped for Holland since 2013. I remember Chelsea were strongly linked with him before his move to PSV.

It look like they will have a really solid defense, but not very much going forward. Although Rooney look like he is performing over expectations so far.

Thought Koeman bottled it last night, invited way too much pressure and negated their 1 man advantage.

Rooney was clearly knackered by 60-70 and instead of putting on some pace (Lookman or Sandro) he put Sigurdsson on the wing and Klassen in the midfield. They really struggled to hold onto the ball as well, no possession at all in the 2nd half which would have been very disappointing considering they did better against 11.

1 bonus for them though their CB's played very well, and the young striker impressed me. He has some real pace and energy, ran Kompany and Otamendi ragged all by himself.

A point away at City can never be sniffed at, but they should have made it much more. City were struggling and they practically invited them to score.

Help me understand this. Seems like a cnut move to me. He's basically decided to keep leeching off Everton, as he's not going to play until the winter anyway? Would probably cost them half of his transfer fee, as well as his salary for that time. What's he assessing, he can't find a better club than Chelsea.

He's basically decided that he wants to sign for Spurs, but couldn't during the window that's just closed because Everton only accepted Chelsea's offer and clearly thought they could bounce Barkley into going along with it.

So he'll wait until January, when Everton will be forced to accept whatever Spurs offer - which will of course be lower than whatever we offered this summer - or else lose him for nothing a few months later.

He's playing with fire in a world cup year. If Everton be stubborn again in January he could end up having not played one game all season.

What do Everton have to gain from being stubborn?

We have nothing to gain either way really. The fee we get will not be fair in terms of his ability and if he plays we will just be inhibiting players who actually want to be here.

If you hadn't bought Sig and Klaasen then there might have been some chance (and pount) of keeping him but now he seems likely to go for peanuts or nothing. I'd like to see him fulfill his potential as I think he has the ability to be great for England.

I don't understand why Everton have played this the way they have. They should never have allowed him to enter the last year of his contract - and should have put him up for sale last summer, when at least you would have gotten a decent price.

Instead they waited, then slapped a silly £50m price on him this summer, which no-one was going to pay, not with 1 year to go on his contract. Then they reduced the asking price as the summer window wore on, but then refused to sell to Spurs because we were clearly offering less than Chelsea, even tho' they must have known that Barkley didn't want to go to Chelsea.

So now they're faced with losing him for probably £15m - £20m max. And even this price assumes that another club comes in for him this winter - a club he's willing to go to - aside from Spurs.

Well...so much for their 'ambitious' transfer window eh?

It may be early days but I've found them awful to watch particularly since Koeman took over.

I'm still surprised that Koeman decided to sign Rooney. Any EPL team with Rooney as its No10 is going to be dire in attack.

Or get a number 9 to lead the line and get you goals. If Rooney breaks double digits in the league i'd be surprised

Joke team. Nobody watching that second half against ten men of City couldn't have came away thinking this was a solid side.

Very disappointing from them today and last time out against Chelsea, bet they turn up next week though
