Everton 2017/2018 thread

@BigDunc9
What do you think your transfer kitty for this window is (net)?
I mean, do you think these signings you made mean you have to sell a few players to balance the books, or will any departures fund more incoming payers?

Edit: And also, have there been any concrete offers/interest in Barkley yet?
I am expecting Lukaku to leave but i think our net spend could still be around the 60 million mark. There is no way we don't get atleast one more striker in if Lukaku goes. Giroud ,Dembele, Luis Muriel and Rooney keep getting linked to us so maybe two of them ?

I think Barkley will stay. Doesn't look like no one is willing to bid for him as there have been zero reports of an offer yet.

Surprised if Barkley stays - he looked dead keen to leave, however maybe no-one is showing any interest at the supposed fee involved. And where would he go ? None of the Top 6 would have / need him. IMHO.

Would be very surprised if Giroud stayed in the PL and didn't go back to France, that's if he leaves Arsenal at all. Not sure you should be taking on Rooney either, his performances for United show that he really is over the crest and it's all downhill from here. Koeman must have excellent contacts in Spain/Netherlands and I'd be surprised if your new striker didn't come from there.

Just wondering how Everton have managed to afford this. They've been scrounging in the bargain bins for years and now they're spending over £100m with potentially Rooney and Giroud on the way also. Perhaps this means they've already committed to selling Barkley and Lukaku? Also, what will be the expectation of Koeman this season? Champions league?

Is there any chance he's taking a pay cut, or his wages are being subsidised another way?

Why do they even want Rooney? Just for the marketing ?

It would do if he had considered that Rooney would be going on a free - if he goes there at all. You can do the maths yourself. No problem at all with that figure. It's just that Everton don't need him !

I imagine that if we don't ask a fee, the money saved by Everton can be used to either pay a large signing on bonus, or spread the savings out across his contract in weekly pay.

Also, he will get a big slice of marketing deals as well.

I was thinking the same thing! This is a club that has said for years it doesn't have the resources to keep pace with the big boys, they seem to be stuck in an old ground and picking up scraps that the rest of the top half teams didn't want. But what a fantastic summer they've had so far, if they can stop their big players leaving they will definitely improve on last season.

They were taken over last year by a guy who has 2bn networth.

Moshiri, who is inextricably linked to Usmanov from Arsenal too

If the new stadium takes off and Koeman's project takes root then Everton might see this sort of investment pay dividends - losing Lukaku & possiblly Barkley notwithstanding

Yes I won't be surprised if Usmanov being frustrated with his attempts to take over Arsenal sells his shares there and buys Everton instead. Infact I think this is pretty likely.

I'm surprised Koeman didn't have enough contacts overseas to avoid spending 60M pounds on two average English players.

It is important for any club in any league to have a core of local players. Of course in England that means you pay inflated fees but Everton can be pleased with their additions. Keane I especially feel could become a top player for them

Isn't that then breaching the FFP rules? Can't your expenditure only be something like 5% more than your income? Thought the rules had been put into place to stop this kind of thing from happening but I guess it doesn't really matter if you're not in contention to qualify for the Champions League.

Nothing to stop them doing what City & Chelsea do ... just get a nice fat sponsorship deal from a company that doesn't actually require making sponsorship deals (don't worry, the money will be repaid, with interest, to your bank account in UAE or Russia).

Rooney is a hilariously shit signing.
He'll probably do a decent job for them, for at least half of the season. He'll be expected to play in one position consistently and he might rediscover his passion again seeing as he doesn't want to be one Everton's worst ever signings at his boyhood club. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect him to be less than bang average if he stays with us but I suspect we'll see a better Wayne Rooney at Everton.

If they do end up signing Rooney and Giroud that really slows the attack down to a standstill. Bit of a disjointed team with Gueye and Schneiderlin being all action in midfield and the attack not being able to capitalise when they press the opposition and win the ball high up the pitch.

If they take more than a point off us in the two games they will view the season as a massive success no matter where they finish. In fact if they beat us at Anfield, they will release a DVD within 48 hours, retire the shirt of the winning goalscorer and have an open-top bus parade around the city.

Except anyone that watches football knows that they have no hope of beating Liverpool at Anfield so don't think ye need to worry.

I reckon Everton will find themselves in a very odd bubble the next few years, too good to be anything below 7th but not strong enough to displace anyone from top 4. They have made some decent additions recently and are going to be very solid this season again.

I agree, I can see Rooney getting a second wind out of this move. He was living a slow death at United.

He'll be terrible. He isn't good enough to be the focal point of a team at #10, and if Everton go down that route then they'll encounter the same problems that have blighted both United and England for so long. Plus, they have Barkley to play in that role, as well as new boy Klaasen. If they intend to play with him right up top, then they better make sure they've got movement around him.

In his defence, Rooney is still a brilliant finisher. Keep him away from the build up and he can still score goals. Which is great, but Lukaku he ain't.

Think Koeman would look to continue with a 4321 system.

Pickford
Coleman Keane Williams Baines
Gueye Schneiderlin Klaassen
Barkley Rooney
Sandro

What are your thoughts on Rooney coming back?
I wasn't originally but i have half come round to round it. Suppose having the other signings in first has made it not such a big deal. All depends on what happens with Rom and who we replace him with to be the main striker.

Hopefully Rooney can what Torres did at his return to his boyhood club and have some sort of return to form.

If Morata is worth 70m Everton should push Chelsea for 100m for Lukaku..
The usual suspects laughed when i said he would probably end up going for between 80 to 100 million. With the crazy prices being quoted in this transfer window for most players then i can't see him going for less.

Best to wait another season when he only has a year left, then he would go for 60m

Probably but teams will get desperate no doubt. I can sense it building from United and Chelsea already.

I also wouldn't mind keeping him for a year and then selling for 60 for what is is worth. Would give us our best shot of a trophy in a long time with him in the team surrounded by all the new signings.
