This can absolutely get fecked. Last hope is for the players to make a stand here.

  No, I really do. People are terrified of change for some reason. The game has been crying out for a shakeup, this is going to be fantastic to watch

It means the end of the FA Cup, the CL and will be governed by the teams that actually play in it. How can you possibly think that is all a good idea?

I hope it falls through and the big six are all docked 50 points each from the beginning of next season and we all have to scrap for survival.

Arsenal have a massive pull world wide, of course they're in it. Clubs have worked hard to become big clubs, why should Stoke get the same amount of prize money as United?

You have just picked out a founding member club of English football, if it wasn't for Stoke there may well of been no Manchester United

If I'm being honest I think the intention was to always bin off the domestic leagues anyway, I think the clubs already knew that and were more than happy to accept the potential consequences. I need to sleep on this but where the feck do we as supporters go from here? Is this even still our club anymore? We may as well stick the 60 odd trophies we've won in the bin. Our history and traditions clearly mean feck all.

My initial reaction is one of horror.

But if it is just going to be a mid-week match competition and not going to replace the actual leagues! Then with some co-operation it could possibly be able to work.

Dropping the carabao cup for starters would make some room in the calendar. Trimming the CL group stages down wouldn’t be a disaster either.

The teams involved are trying to grab as much money as they can for sure. Plus some of the details like no relegations make it a joke...

Calling it a Super League is misleading too, i would have just marketed it as a alternative to the CL, or even a competition for the years when an international cup isn’t happening.

Lots of possibilities, but they seem to have gone about it in all the wrong manner.

Its 20+ extra games, theres no trimming the CL, its dead. So is the fa and league cup. Imagine United winning this new comp, 25 ESL games and 38 PL games.. 63 matches. Theres no other competitions.

This is basically a Champions League with a round Robin rather than knock-out rounds.

Oh yes, and the same participants every year:lol:

I don’t overly mind it. I’m so bored with football lately that the announcement is exciting. I assume when I digest all the details I’ll think differently. But feck me, domestic football bores the feck out of me sometimes

They've gone in about it on MotD there. I swear the program even ran over time? What's the angle there?

I think Danny Murphy was putting too much weight on players wanting to play for their country. If the club is making more money they'll be in a position to ask for more, so that will surely rule. He didn't seem to think so but I reckon that would definitely be the case with a lot.

Danny Murphy and Dion Dublin sounded like a right pair of old men discussing this.

The posturing over National Team players is silly, of course, they'll want the best players to play in those competitions. It's all just big threats on both sides.

Could this be how United get shot of the Glazers? Start all over again

I just don't understand how anyone can think this is a good thing. I feel sick at the thought of this.
As opposed to the Champions League? I don’t understand how we have reached a point where people cannot conceive of anything but a UEFA-led Champions League. Football existed before and will exist after.

Domestically, people seem to be lamenting the death of the top 4 race, which is a case of Stockholm Syndrome if I ever saw it.

The CL hasn’t gone has it? These clubs just won’t be in it.
It's a pretty devalued competition if those clubs aren't in it, the race for the Europa League isn't a big deal now and this makes the CL very similar.

So the five additional non-Founder clubs just get rotated out every season then? Based on achievements in other competitions? Who decides who gets in and how?

Jesus fecking christ.

I know there had been a lot of justified shit about the awful new CL format proposals, but the Super League (if they got the way and played it while also remaining in the Premier League) would be even worse.

18 matches followed by two-legged quarter finals, semi finals and final.... so a minimum of 18 matches rising to a possible 25 games throughout the season. So forget the Carabao and FA cups for starters, there wouldn't be room for league and super league fixtures.

If this is the price we pay to slay the Carabao, it’s worth it.

UEFA was planning to add more teams and games to the CL so it’s probably not that different.

Reading that statement on the United website it sounds like the clubs feel UEFA are not giving them enough financial return from the current Champions League?

The CL hasn’t gone has it? These clubs just won’t be in it.

I meant for the clubs in this competition obviously.

Why would us, United fans, give a shit where we're finishing when top 4 just doesn't matter any more? It makes following the league and being passionate about the results totally pointless.

Interested about the 5 qualifiers for the Super League... Surely the plan is for the 4 CL semi finalists and the Europa League winner?

I just don't understand how anyone can think this is a good thing. I feel sick at the thought of this.
What are you sick about? Your team isn't going to qualify for CL football and you just got given a lifeline for a better competition that will secure the future of Tottenham. But yeah, game's gone or whatever

No, because they're under contract. I doubt it says in their contract they must play in certain competitions etc..
I would think that they would have mitigating circumstances if they refuse. Because playing in a competition banned by UEFA and FIFA is huge.

  No, I really do. People are terrified of change for some reason. The game has been crying out for a shakeup, this is going to be fantastic to watch

Bullshit it's going to be fantastic to watch...have you seen the planned format?

It's basically the NBA/MLB regular season which just about everyone involved gives no shits about - fans, players or teams.

There are 18 'group stage' games - and at the end of them all, half the league qualify for the knockout stages anyway. They're slightly more than glorified friendlies...just like the regular seasons of the NBA and MLB.

The NBA regular season ratings are dead for a reason.

 what a mess. The insane amount of money in football was always leading here.

Our players died to play in the European Cup and now we're going to abandon that to be part of an unimpeachable cabal of rich twats. It's a disgraceful insult to our history. The Glazers want to dismantle everything we've ever worked for.
