A league with no relegation. How boring. Unless you are a challenger, there is nothing to play for.

If it goes ahead I will not be supporting Man Utd in this Super League.

I'm half swayed to give up completely.
I feel exactly the same with Liverpool. Disgusted that these clubs think so little of the fans that this is even being touted as an idea.

You think so? I'm by no means an expert in this topic but intuitively I would have thought that they have every right to allow whoever they please. In the end, they're an association and players of expelled clubs would no longer be part of that association, right?
Im willing to bet legally they wouldn't succeed in not permitting a player to play for their country. They couldnt even make a UCL ban for City stick

You would think a mass -player exodus from the super league clubs would follow. Players wouldn't want to risk their international careers on the future decision of CAS.

I don't know about that. Take Rugby as an example, many federations have a rule that prevent players from being selected if they play for a foreign club, you still see many stars move abroad and knowingly put their international careers aside. Generally we are talking about players that have already represented their countries for years, think that it's enough and wants to collect big checks while still playing highly competitive rugby.

I personally think we should do away with the whole kicking a ball around a field off grass thing and just have rich people throw money at each other until they run out and the last one standing gets a trophy.

What self respecting millionaire wants to muck about on a pitch anyway. Like football is about feet and balls.

Really mate? I think corporate ownerships, private ownership etc, have just tapped into it. I think were only now realising how big football is. Think about. FIFA the fecking game.. makes billions.. Whomever owns football owns the world essentially. I sound alarmist.

I am completely in support of this move. I want to see Man Utd play in Europe irrespective of whether we come top 4 or not and this literally ensures it. Why should I be aghast at us cementing our place and competitive advantage when oil clubs are doing the same thing within the current setup by spending money?

FFP is dead and old firm clubs will cease to exist at this rate. Very soon Newcastle will be owned by the Saudis and they will hold on to another CL spot so basically it will be the rest of the league fighting for 2 spots only.

Clubs are run like businesses and they want predictable cash flows. This ensures that too. It’a a win win in my opinion. Feck UEFA. I would have said otherwise if they had enforced FPP strictly. Not anymore.

All clubs big or small are part of the football ecosystem. You can’t trample over the ‘smaller’ clubs, their fans, traditions and history to service the greed of the few.
It’s an extremely selfish viewpoint of football in general.
I agree but weren't the same things said prior to the formation of the PL? Football is a massive business and has been for years. I will always support United. I've never known different. They are my local team. I also love watching great football. It wouldn't be nice to see other clubs going into administration left, right and centre but is that really going to happen?
People are going on like this is going to be WW3 but really, no one knows how it'll pan out.
Again, I haven't read the ins and outs so I'm maybe not too educated on the matter.

It's all about money.

PL attracts the most viewers these days and they get the most money. PL distribute equally meaning even though the big clubs bring in the most viewers they do not get paid the most money.
La Liga has two of the biggest clubs in the world, but they can't compete with PL in terms of money. Same with Serie A. Soon Leicester will be able to offer better deals than Real, Inter, Juve etc.
Uefa is corrupt to the teeth. Same with Fifa. Qatar got the World Cup 2023. Don't tell me they don't go after money. Fifa themselves proposed club wc. Btw. why should they be in charge of the European competitions and why should they decide how money is distributed? Here the clubs are taking charge.

I can perfectly understand the big clubs going for this. It makes sense and keep them as big clubs.

In all honesty I think the big clubs are just trying to shake up the current governing bodies. Maybe this will not mount to anything right now, but in next 5 years I think football world will look different.

Aren't you guys the exception from the rule? As far as I know, Barca and Real have to rights to market their TV licenses independently. You also claim the two top spots revenue wise.

This project will implode. The big clubs will not only lose huge chunks of their fan base, they'll eventually also lose the interest of domestic football fans who only follow them because they are the bigest fish in the same pond their own club is swimming in.

Can't wait for those later fixtures where we have no chance of making the quarters but also can't be relegated so are effectively just trying to finish as high as possible to maximise the club's wealth. How fecking greedy are these clubs that they would do something very few fans want just to make even more money for their little cartel?

Id prefer this to the champions league if im honest. The PL still is going to be the bread and butter by the sounds of it and if this screws over the corrupt fat cats at fifa and uefa then all the better.
Yes, because our owners and those of the other partcipants are paragons of justice, ethics and equality. Come on.

The PL won't be the bread and butter as well because these teams will a huge money advantage and so they'll dominate that by extension as well.

Sometimes it's worth thinking beyond the down and narrow.

Completely shameless cash grab that goes against the fans and football in general. If it goes ahead I won't be supporting United anymore, I'll have to go back to PSG.

Join me in supporting Salford lad. We will listen to hip hop. Just you and I. You and I.

My post was mostly aimed at actual kicking of the ball is becoming a sort of pathetic charade to distract us from what it's really about. Money. We cant have clubs like Leicester fecking things up by taking a much richer clubs CL spot by winning football games.

Exactly. A poor start and you're effectively playing dead rubbers for a year

Its a terrible idea and nobody wants real vs juventus 4 times a year.

If anything, those oil clubs will become more dominant in a super league. Who can compete with PSG and City? You are not even talking about one mega-rich club, but two. They will become dominant in that league, no doubt about it. The other clubs will end up being crippled by them as they will start gathering more fans than any of the other clubs.

Over the long term, most of those big clubs will become average sized.

I do wonder sometimes what people bother watching football for. Attitudes like this are just sad.
I’m pretty much out if we end up doing this. After 30 plus years. Super league. We are in the EL more often than the CL these days ffs

Agreed on both counts. Local lower league stuff is more interesting to me these days anyway to be honest. Greed ruins everything eventually.

You speak as though United don't spend money on players.

Good fecking post mate. Exactly. We can't even have grass roots without some cnuts polluting the sport. But there is so much money involved, hence this fecking league.

How so? A salary cap of 55% of turnover was mooted.

No there is a strict FFP for the new league. They will be thrown out of the league if they perform financial doping.

Don’t forget one comes with an *

high stakes game of poker over the next couple of weeks.

Wow I had actually forgotten the asterisk. I will have to check the official PL book to remind me it's there.

Is this high stakes just a ruse for getting the individual TV deals the big clubs have always been after?

Can't see any chance of Bayern or Dortmund supporters/owners approving them joining. How would socios at Real Madrid and Barcelona be involved in approving this?

The champions league is stale and the new format will be even worse. Super league could work as a replacement, if done properly and not like this suggestion.

The idea of not qualifying as suggested kills the usual domestic football rights. If you're not in the title race, will be little to play for assuming not in relegation battle. Will be super dull, domestic TV revenue will collapse. Presumably it kills domestic cups too as no fixture space?

Plus the super league itself could also be pretty dull depending on exactly what the format is.

If this goes ahead I doubt these clubs would even see as much extra as they're expecting from TV money. Meanwhile all other clubs would implode as their TV money would hugely reduce.

They will get around it through loopholes. Advertising, promotions etc. City nor PSG post their player's full pay now; what the club pays, yes, but not including the amount given by the other companies they own. I guarantee the companies they own e.g. Emirates will be sponsoring them.

They can stop the clubs paying over that, but they have no power over any companies outside of that.

Presumably the other clubs will enforce the FFP much stricter than Uefa did.

Well you can be sure about that, but why does that make them more dominant? They're using the same dark magic now.

Premier League fuming about this, during Burnley Man Utd- 2 clubs the PL allowed to be taken over by ridiculously leveraged buyouts, saddling them with hundreds of millions of debt
Who is going to show all these games, so is it another subscription?
Well according to the Athletic article, the clubs themselves can show 4 games on their own streaming platforms a year.
So yes, you'll be downloading the Man Utd app and paying for that too

I never claimed to be speaking up for fairness. I am only looking out for the best outcome for MUFC. I don’t care if that means I am being unfair to other clubs. Our long term existence is at risk if oil clubs keep this financial doping and slowly take away new supporters from us as they continue to qualify for the CL every year through financial doling.

You don’t have cover us to just keep silent and wait for it to happen. Sounds like many clubs have the same reservations.

What was the main reason behind this? Loss of money during covid? War with UEFA because of the new structure that will add new teams and thus effectively reduce the pot of money overall?

Most of these clubs probably want their own TV deals, the American owners definitely thought that would be on the cards, but didn't catch on that here we look after the other clubs. It is sheer greed.

A closed shop is a big no no for me.

I think I'll stop watching United altogether if it does pass.

Pure greed is abhorrent, all just to make more and more money for corporate owners. Feck that, earn your place in the champions League.
