Do you want the ESL to happen?

FIFA have already said that they wouldn’t recognise any breakaway officially and they would deny players the chance to represent their country.
You’d imagine that the powers that be will be strong enough to stop something like this happening.
I am ashamed that we’re one of the clubs involved.
Qatar will be over the moon with no Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe & the likes in next years WC.

If it goes ahead I will not be supporting Man Utd in this Super League.

I'm half swayed to give up completely.

I don't think the other clubs sign up for it unless its an equal revenue sharing pie. Maybe United and Real come ahead because of merchandise revenue and such.
It's in the article, mate. I'll paste below.

Each of the founding teams is expected to earn fees paid hundreds of millions of pounds to participate, with clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid receiving the biggest sums for joining.

Whose going to pay a TV subscription fee see that? Certainly not me. If United move then I'll move with them.
This, good luck to the PL even getting 1/3 of what they used to get in the next TV deal.

The thought of this is quite disgusting. No sense of competition and only money talks

The breakaway Premier League didn't really change anything competition wise* (promotion and relegation still a thing, double round robin still a thing, etc). I doubt this will change anything greatly once the negotiations are all done either.

*Yes the Prem went down to 20 teams rather than 22, partly on the FA's request

But at least it's an open competition. At least everyone has the potentiality of entering these competitions. The Super League shuts everyone out except for those chosen for their so-called elite status.

Yeah, this makes an already imbalanced system infinitely worse. It’ll get messy for a while and a deal will be made between all parties so everyone is getting their cut. It’s the fans that will lose out, as has been the case over and over and over again. Basically, they’re all a bunch of cnuts.

Everyone looking for their interests, acting like UEFA is some fair organization is hilarious.

They're probably running scared now and terrified of losing the huge revenues the big teams bring them.

And of course, City are reluctant. This is all a response to the mockery they made of the PL and the transfer market in the last 13 years.

No it's not, the ECA has been trying to do that and threaten with it way before City and PSG were owned by oil countries. People really need to stop that bullshit, the big clubs have always been greedy, all the changes that we have seen over the years in the CL where certain leagues get more guaranteed places, some clubs get "legacy" revenues, the way TV money has been distributed in order to make sure that a massive gap exists between the clubs that already have and the rest, all these things have nothing to do with City.

I have said it before but people should look at what the ECA and big clubs have been and are doing, in the last 30 years they have blackmailed the UEFA and most likely bribed it to create the super clubs that we currently see, now these super clubs wants more, they want all the TV revenues for themselves, they don't want to share it with anyone which is something that we have known for a long time.

This, good luck to the PL even getting 1/3 of what they used to get in the next TV deal.

Don't take me wrong, I don't agree with United doing this. However lets face it. I pay subscription money to watch Manchester United. If United aren't there, I won't be paying.

Maybe we're supporting the Super League just to get away from Burnley

Exactly, that's my point

Have spent a good portion of my life supporting Palace in the Championship, any money we make getting spanked 0-7 by Liverpool certainly isn’t to my benefit...

I personally think we should do away with the whole kicking a ball around a field off grass thing and just have rich people throw money at each other until they run out and the last one standing gets a trophy.

What self respecting millionaire wants to muck about on a pitch anyway. Like football is about feet and balls.

Laughable in the extreme that Spurs are part of this on top of everything else that’s laughable about it.

This has the potential to bit ethem in the ass. If UEFA and FIFA decide to exclude players from these clubs from playing for their national teams, they're done. Every star player of a competitive nationality will want to leave immediately and probably sue the club into letting him go.

Why the feck are people saying death knell of football? It’s been about money for decades. Who the feck made UEFA the moral guardians of football? They make billions themselves. The only reason them and FIFA are against it is because it threatens their power and position in the game - a position they’ve abused through incredible corruption for decades. I said once FFP collapsed there was going to be a huge power struggle - the same people that bang on about fairness and allowing City spend whatever they want when funded by an entire state seem to think big traditional clubs should share the TV money equally. That’s a contradiction. You either enforce FFP or you give the clubs who are the main reason for the billions being made the ability to make their own tv deals. I’d prefer the former personally but UEFA have shown they’re incapable of managing it.
Absolutely nailed it. Post of the thread.

Just feels like a way of keeping the rich rich and the poor not able to join them, its like a metaphor for life in capitalism. Can get fecked, I'll just watch basketball instead.

Leave to which club? Bayern can't sign them all, and the rest would be playing that Super League.

Or Uefa and Fifa would lose in court

A closed league is not for me, this is so embarrassing. I presume our owners see it as a way to avoid playing Palace, Sheffield United and other "small' teams we can't beat at home.

Your nickname says all we need to know about your bias in this situation but let me try to 'discuss'.

First, the PL is not La Liga where people care only for the two big clubs with a sprinkling with Sevilla and Atletico (not Athletico btw) Madrid (who both inevitably bottle the league to the former two in 9/10 cases).

The PL is built on equal distribution of money which allows for excitement in most games and unpredictability of the outcome each season(title, top 4, relegation). We have already seen that allowing Citeh to spend their way to a league title makes the league winner less unpredictable/exciting. Why should crap teams like Spuds and Arsenal get to benefit from big money when they've proven they're not good enough to compete with West Ham and Leicester?

Secondly, I would prefer to watch crappy little teams than these plastic big clubs owned by Yanks in a league facilitated by Yank banks (JP Morgan, please). Americans have proven time and again they have no understanding of European football in relation to its meaning to fans and communities, so I don't want them to have even an ounce more influence on European football.

It's all about money.

PL attracts the most viewers these days and they get the most money. PL distribute equally meaning even though the big clubs bring in the most viewers they do not get paid the most money.
La Liga has two of the biggest clubs in the world, but they can't compete with PL in terms of money. Same with Serie A. Soon Leicester will be able to offer better deals than Real, Inter, Juve etc.
Uefa is corrupt to the teeth. Same with Fifa. Qatar got the World Cup 2023. Don't tell me they don't go after money. Fifa themselves proposed club wc. Btw. why should they be in charge of the European competitions and why should they decide how money is distributed? Here the clubs are taking charge.

I can perfectly understand the big clubs going for this. It makes sense and keep them as big clubs.

In all honesty I think the big clubs are just trying to shake up the current governing bodies. Maybe this will not mount to anything right now, but in next 5 years I think football world will look different.

I'm sure it will just be a bluff, as it has been before, and will lead to further gradual changes in favour of the finances of the 'elite' clubs.

However, I'd love both sides to just get this over with and call each others bluff.

Personally, I'd much rather watch a Leicester/Sevilla quarter final over a Real/Man Utd fight to consolidate their place in the top four for a favourable seed in the next round.

Qatar will probably sue Fifa first.

Sky mentioning greed and then advertise Chisora v Parker in half time break for £19.95

Or Uefa and Fifa would lose in court

You think so? I'm by no means an expert in this topic but intuitively I would have thought that they have every right to allow whoever they please. In the end, they're an association and players of expelled clubs would no longer be part of that association, right?

You would think a mass -player exodus from the super league clubs would follow. Players wouldn't want to risk their international careers on the future decision of CAS.
Seriously? How many players will turn down 250k or so a week just to play for their country a few times a year?

Completely shameless cash grab that goes against the fans and football in general. If it goes ahead I won't be supporting United anymore, I'll have to go back to PSG.

gonna be the same clubs playing in a European competition with a better format
You mean a much worse format in every possible way. A group stage with 18 games for every team, even thinking about it bores me.
Let's be clear: Apologies for how xenophobic this sounds, but it's the foreign fans that are responsible for killing the sport.

What's more, you know it's true.
You can look forward to a long time in the newbies with posts of that quality.

Id prefer this to the champions league if im honest. The PL still is going to be the bread and butter by the sounds of it and if this screws over the corrupt fat cats at fifa and uefa then all the better.
