Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

95% unzipped and also getting a buzzer to be a co-Pep Guardiola is my idol! Hype is real

He is a manager not player, he is a manager not player, he is a manager not player.
I know what you mean

Buttner LVG Blind and Depay too :wenger:I like Blind don’t get me wrong but we’ve had a pretty bad run of Dutch imports after getting it oh so right with Stam and Ruud. Let’s hope we get this one right. I do like that we seem to be doing our due diligence and he’s definitely the best up and coming candidate available. Fingers crossed the stars align and we’ve sorted out our recruitment and we let any lazy/unmotivated/unfit for purpose players leave. I don’t want a new manager having to rely on Pogbas fitness or getting Rashford/Martial to love the game again. We’ve done this dance over and over. A truly fresh start would be amazing.

This is where us muppets come into our own. We take care of shit from here. Let’s go, choo choo!

I would certainly hope so.

I know United leave us scratching our heads more often than not, but they will surely know themselves who their next manager will be before the season ends.

I can’t see a scenario where there’s still a question mark after the final league game.

I'm actually surprised people still think the manager should be selecting transfer targets, when he can't possibly be in a position to run a detailed/thorough check on potential new recruits, without relying on other people. Haven't some of you learned anything since Fergie retired?

When you as a club have a recruitment department with around 80 people working solely on recruitment and allow the manager to control recruitment whilst also allowing him his own personal recruitment staff. Then it's easy to see why we're a team that has struggled for almost a decade.

I've consistently said for several years now that this club's problem is that it's allowing the manager to sign players with the input of a select few of his chosen people. I can't think of any other big club that allows their manager/trainer the luxury of having his own personal recruitment staff. When you allow the manager to do that, you've by default marginalised a recruitment department that has vast resources to provide the head coach with a thorough and detailed analysis on a wide range of players.

And as far as ten Hag is concerned it's been reported by Paul Hirst that he wants to concentrate on coaching the team and wants the rest of the associate stuff to be dealt by others. That doesn't mean he won't have a input on who will be signed, because he will, and the final decision will involve him imo. It's important that the recruitment department and head coach are on the same page. And allowing the recruitment department to select the new head coach is a step in the right direction in that regard. Instead of the board selecting the manager and then discovering he wants his own personal recruitment staff.

I think the manager should set the parameters but the staff should go and deliver the goods.

I have only seen ten Hag's Ajax twice, against Feyenoord and today (FC Groningen): both times I thought they were quite susceptible on the counter. Can regular watchers of Ajax confirm this? This also seems to be borne out by the data presented in yesterday's BBC article about possible United managers.

I agree and those parameters will centre around the guiding principle of the head coach and his style of play. The below tweet which has just dropped from James Ducker actually fits into what you're saying.

Ajax been a bit awful first halve looking at the stats. All the rumours getting to them? Could potentially cost them the title.

Missing some players too but yeah they have been terrible.

Does seem like that Ajax side has a bit of a habit of coming from behind, in recent weeks anyway.
