Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

It's more complicated than either signing players the manager wants or not. The question is how often the player they get is the first, second, third, or fourth choice. Because technically those would all be players the manager wanted if they are on the agreed list of potential targets.

In VDB's case I have zero doubt that Ole agreed to the signing and even helped convince VDB to come, because they've both outright told us that was the case. But that could still mean VDB was only fourth choice in Ole's eyes, was signed because that was better than not strengthening that position at all and that lukewarm view of him carried over into his then limited opportunities. Which would be an echo of LVG's complaints of not getting his preferred picks too.

A question for the new manager to ask beyond "do I have final say?" would be "how does the club decide when a first choice pick isn't viable and we need to move on to lesser options?".

All managers mainly go on others advices. scouting is a full time job. If your manager is actively scouting, he isn't fully doing the rest of his job which means that he is for example not the main coach.
David Moyes tried it didn't he. Otherwise he would have gone by the scouting for players that had already been done. He wanted to look at everything himself before making any decisions.

Jose brought his own scouts, think Moyes did too and so did Ole

Moyes did. Herrera and the 3 lawyers episode occurred because Moyes dithered since he didn't scout Herrera himself. Herrera was a target from SAF time, after Athletic Bilbao thrashed us in EL.

You wonder if he has changed the way he operates now.

No you are wrong. Ole said himself he had final say on incoming players.

Final say:
"do you want this player, that player or none at all?"
"I had someone else in mind actua..."
"that wasn't the question."

Not exactly, Moyes allegedly likes to be part of the last scouting compilation which to be perfectly clear is the last part of the scouting job when the scouting, reports, highlights, data analysis are already done by the scouts and the chief scout. Moyes wanted Robbie Cooke's reports.

To make it short, the scouts and data analysts compile a list of players that they scouted and analyzed when it's done the head coach or DOF look at that list and picks the players that he likes based on already done scouting. In theory you do that several times per seasons and end up with lists of players per positions. The point being that managers at professional level do no scout players themselves, they have scouts for that, managers are part of the decision making because they are involved in the lists of final targets and give their opinion based on other peoples reports.

Ten Hag and making signings is not a good combination, every signing he did at Ajax(not the ones Overmars made) are kinda bad. Promes, Labyad, Klaiber, Marin, Haller. Most of those players he worked with previously and aren't really good enough.

Haller scores a lot, but still isn't anywhere good enough to be an Ajax striker, but that's due to Ajax fans having higher standards than just winning/scoring when it comes to football.

But then again, some Ajax players could work(although i don't want Antony, Timber or Martinez to leave yet  )

how do you know which are Overmars signings and which are ETH? (genuinely asking not saying you don't)

Pep just spoke about Eth, can be found on ESPN NL twitter. I’m not allowed to post the tweet.

Because nobody in their right mind would buy most of those players at Ajax and ETH worked with them before and the media talked about it being the case.

Haller also currently tearing it up for Ajax after his failed PL stint.
No he is not. He is scoring yes, but he's not good enough to be an Ajax striker. The difference between most clubs and Ajax is that Ajax fans(me included) expect so much more than goals from a striker. Haller only delivers the goals, nothing more. He is slow, can't pass, mostly invisible throughout the match and surprisingly misses a lot of easy chances.

You said allegedly

I did because from the POV of an outsider it is alleged but that claim was made by Van de Beek himself. Now my question is what is the source of your own allegations?

That to me suggests that it's already been agreed and won't be announced until Ajax have finished their season.
How many more games before they wrap up their league because our season is as good as over.

Edit: wtf, they've a +30 GD between them and PSV and yet only 2 points seperate them

I think the control part is mainly down to the concern that we buy players looking at their commercial value as well. So Ten Hag might be looking into getting assurance that he should have say before final decision is made.

Yes I have thought this for a while. ajax wont want their season disrupted by the media circus if this was mentioned before the end of the season.

Are we reading his body language for signs of goodbye?
Nothing will ever beat the Hazard 2012 saga. From his kid wearing blue all the way to him announcing I am joining the Champions of Europe to some fans still in hope claiming he didn‘t say Champions of Europe 2012.
