Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Considering the amount of times Pep has played a blinder on us with various people he allegedly wanted at City, only to leave us with a dud, perhaps we should do a complete 180 now and run for the hills? :nervous:
Think guardiola actually wants us to be competitive again… he’s getting sick of it always being them and Liverpool in title race. The derbys with ten Hag vs guardiola will be such a good watch though for neutral fans. It will take ten Hag at least 2 years though to get us challenging proper again… unless he can work miracles like tuchel did as soon as he went to Chelsea.

this isn’t a job at starbucks, it’s a pretty huge job. There not going to just give someone it. Of course they are going to conduct multiple meetings and interviews.

Also IR (investor relations) is very important for a public company, so they will want to pick the optimum timing for the announcement

I’ve seen people on this forum have actually asked if “other teams do interviews” or if it’s just us being ‘typical slow United’.

Also if it's agreed but he wants to focus on Ajax, go for it, we'll announce him at the end of the season.

I can't really get over this ETH wants total control over signings talks. I'm almost sure that these nonsensical claims are way more prevalent when United are concerned and it makes no sense, ETH has always been a head coach, he isn't a manager in the british sense of it, he has no experience in that role and it's an extremely uncommon role on the continent and not that common in the PL in 2022. So I have two questions for the people believing these stories and supporting the idea, why would he demand to be given a job that he has never done before and why United should give him that role when he has no experience in that role, let alone positive experience?

The few games I saw, this Timber kid played as CB. But from YT, he plays as right back too. Looks quite good with his dribbling and run. A bit short for CB. Perhaps he can be a primary right back if both joined us?

Yeah it’s made up for sure or a misquote/mistranslation. The trouble with the rhetoric around the club being so negative at the moment is fans are more inclined to believe the negative stuff.

The negativity on here these days is overwhelming at times.

Yeah. Strange thing.

Unless something lost in translation like: ETH doesn't want commercial statement signings, overrated local kids from our academy being forced on him; else I don't see how ETH wants to personally scout and purchase players. It't not like he's well connected to some super agent that act as personal scouts like Mourinho and Mendes' network.

Some very fair questions being asked here. What I think is that he wants players that fit a certain profile, so he gets to veto against signing the likes of Ronaldo for marketing reasons.

This doesn't necessarily mean that het gets to choose what players we sign but they do have to fit a certain profile.

I don't know maybe I'm just talking out of my arse.

And United has never made commercial statetement signings or forced any academy player on anyone.

Honestly I'm 100% sure that it's made up. I mentioned it earlier in the thread but at Ajax, he hasn't relied on players fitting a particular profile and the players he had at Utrecht were different to what you would link him today. Your interpretation of the rumour is probably true, someone wrote something based on the idea that ten Hag is married to a certain type of player which is blatantly wrong.

Mike is the most reliable when it comes to Ajax.

ETH is a done deal.
Amen. We finally will get our own Pep Guardiola is my idol. How about the news that he wants Antony and Timber ? Any credibility ? Makes sense though logically we need RW and fast CB

So your example is a player that was allegedly convinced to join after having conversations with Ole?
Some posters are still in denial and believe that VDB got shoved into Ole's hand. We got reliable news reporting Ole personally called and convinced VDB to join us

I thought this is what we want to get away from and not how modern clubs operate? We've been clamouring for a DoF for ages for this reason.
I would be wary of that statement. They say it every time we employ a manager. That he wants full control.

He's not going to admit it. It would make him look like a puppet.
DVB said himself that Ole personally called him to convince him though, so that doesn't add up unless he's in on it also?

Maybe it wasn't Ole's idea at first but he definitely went along with it.

Jurrien Timber maybe small but he’s taller than Cannavaro was, and he’s a little bit taller than that Martinez feller who’s also a CB at Ajax according to Google. I know it’s the PL but I think him and Anthony would be great signings

Wasn't particularly thinking about Donny. I think Ole went along with signings. How many were through him looking at players and choosing players is a different matter. Some manager actively get involved in scouting others just go on others advise but then get involved with persuading someone to join their club.

All managers mainly go on others advices. scouting is a full time job. If your manager is actively scouting, he isn't fully doing the rest of his job which means that he is for example not the main coach.
