Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

-do you think he can be at city one day?
-yeah sure why not.

Cue headlines.

They worked together two years at Bayern. So that is certainly really not so far that that would be a match. They build on similar principles but each have their own ideas!

Director of football at a lot of clubs
This is true to some extent. My thinking has always been that the director picks the manager that will be in line with his direction of the club so that continuity exists from one manager to the next. For example, let's say the director of football wants United to play a style of football that stresses possession, with a sustainable young core. Then after selecting a manager that fits that profile, the manager's transfer targets, so long as they fit what the director wants over his reign, can choose their transfer targets. Hypothetically if that manager fails, then as the next manager will be picked by the same director, that direction will continue regardless of manager having the power to select targets.

Director of football should be the one who works on the recruitment part and contracts with the other club, hiring and firing of a manger....if the coach doesn't pick the player and think that he fits the system then what is the point of having a coach and working on playing as a team or having training sessions???

If I'm ETH and i have United knocking down my door....i'm going to say to them that if you want me to run the squad, training sessions and all the daily footballing activities then i need to be the one that selects the players who i feel fit my system

The director of football should say ok, you can have the freedom to recruit players but they have to fit within the overall philosophy of the club...ie wage demands, a certain age range etc...if due diligence on the player isn't done then we move on to someone else

It's done so that the next manager doesn't have to completely revamp the squad and as Rainbows explained better than I could, due to the director of football having a big say on esch successive manager, the players targeted should fit the vision and playing style of whichever manager comes in next as well as obviously the current manager.

(I can't post media)
"According to Fabrizio, Erik ten Hag told Man Utd he wants to decide on signings and everything has to be his ideas.

As it should be, Manager should 100% be in-charge of the team.

If Man Utd genuinely agrees to this then it's going to be a BIG step towards the right direction."
Ah ok, I see now why hiring a new manager isn't a clear thing with Utd.

Maybe Utd aren't sure whether to have a director of football have the vision and hire a coach accordingly (like we've been told many clubs do today); or to have someone like ETH who has his own vision (or does he? Who knows really). It's not an easy decision to make.

...who the fuk else should be picking the players to buy other than the man who's going to run the training sessions and lead the team every week. What a stretch by the journalists.
That tweet is a misrepresentation. What was said was Ten Hag wants to be part of the decision on signings, not that he wants to decide.
We already run that kind of system.

The press will link us to every Ajax player by the end of the window if he signs.

Well Ole didn’t have a choice on signing a few of his players

The annoying as feck thing is, the wasted years on Ole could and should have been the Poch years, meaning we should now have either sacked him and have ETH as sole priority, or be delighted with Poch as manager.
The club are now left thinking about the one they let get away, or the new sexy option on the block.

Timber looks like an amazing prospect from the one match I've seen of him.
Think I’d prefer Martinez if it was a choice between both Ajax defenders… do you think timber is ready to take the step up with him only being 20? He is a brilliant prospect though but he’d have a lot of expectations signing for us.
