Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Other people have mentioned it but EtH would require massive funds and the remaining players to buy into his progressive vision. That might be a hard sell. Think about how difficult the club has found it to shift some of the players here over the years and then imagine the necessary clear out.

Personally i'd like to see United go in a new direction so I'm all for this, i just worry that the set up for EtH to succeed might not be in place and that Poch might be a better fit for the players that are here.

We might end up with less points next year, but we need to transition into the sort of football Ten Hag has Ajax playing this year so we're going to need a lot of new players and some of the youth to make it.

I imagine we'll play 4 at the back next year, but if you plug the current Ajax formation into our team, it can be emulated with 3 signings:

------------------------Cristiano(Haller)-------------------------------------
Sancho(Tadic)-----------------------------------------------RW(Antony)
--------------------------------------Bruno(Berghuis)------------------------
-------------CM(Gravenberch)----------------------------------------------
--------------------------------DM(Alvarez)-------Dalot(Mazraoui)---
-----Shaw(Blind)---Varane(Martinez)--Lindelof(Timber)
-----------------------De Gea/Henderson(Passveer)-----------------------

and then ideally Maguire and Martial and a few others sold to generate funds and probably lots of time for Fred (though lord knows what role) because he's a pro who managers seem comfortable with, Telles as the LB when we go 4 at the back like Tagliafico is for Ajax.

Or just switch sides from the current Ajax team and have Sancho as the Antony type hugging the touchline and being a huge part of the build up, Telles or Shaw playing like Mazraoui does (Or Alvaro from the youth team? Seems like the role he'd be best suited for and Ten Hag will presumably pick a young player or two to fast-track), and Shaw or a left-footed as a wide CB like Timber.

If he comes here I wouldn't mind united raiding Ajax for at least 3-4 of their players just like Van Gaal did at Barcelona in the 90s. It will be important for him to have even a small core of players who already buy into his system. We have one already in Van De Beek. It will be interesting to see if his fortunes change should Hag be given the role.

That would be great and would make total sense as they know his system.

I think Donny Van De Beek will play in the Gravenberch role. Like Ten Hag will play Donny. Ten Hag even mentioned how shocking it was that Van De Beek was ignored.

The only problem about Donny would be his mindset entering this summer since things are not going well at Everton right now. They can still be relegated at the end of the campaign.

Patience will be key but again it's whether the egos in the dressing room will cope with the ideas. I'd like to see what a manager EtH could do with Shaw as I always said I think Pep would like Shaw. He's got the technical ability to play that type of football (positional sense and fitness are other matters but can hopefully be improved)

Bring him home. This looks on. Excited for the changes he will make in the squad.

I think the three should be RW, DM, and RB (since we only have Dalot while Bissaka has no chance), and also potentially another one which is GK if we let Dean go. Passveer is comfortable on his feet from I heard. VDB could be used in that CM role. Wouldn‘t surprised me if he likes Fred.

hopefully we'll be in for Mazraoui if ETH joins

kinda strange we haven't been linked much

I would love if he is the next manager. More than Poch. I'm just afraid the amount of overhyping and overrating will be the downfall of him though. Poch is no longer the shiny toy, he was sacked after all, so people will manage their expectations better. ETH on the other hand is seen as a very technical and gifted coach so people will expect more from him than Poch. If ETH says I sit on the toilet bowl and face around 75° from the north when I take a shit people will think its revolutionary.

Yeah, I would expect a smart manager who isn't given 300M to sign 6 new players that a season of Fred is the best transition scenario.

Henderson is young and looks better with his feet than De Gea, but is there a team that needs a keeper and can afford to buy and pay De Gea?

I had mentioned VDB in a previous post as the 10, which obviously Ten Hag did well with in tearing apart Madrid at the Bernabeu in a CL tie which is basically the pinnacle of modern football. In that case he could use Bruno as the Tadic type, VDB as the 10 type role that Berghuis plays and then not buy a wide player but the sides maybe flipped, like this:

------------------------Cristiano----------------------------
Sancho--------------------------------Bruno-------------
-----------------Fred/#8-----VDB------------------------
-----------Shaw--------DM---------------------------------
--------LCB--Varane/Maguire-Lindelof-------

Not a lot of depth but we can promote youngsters I guess. And Blind is certainly more used to playing fullback (which he does some of the time) than Lindelof.

Also, I'm not sure Ten Hag will look to replicate the team he has this year, which is dominating but maybe more of a thing he'll look to build towards.

I agree that Shaw in the role Blind plays makes sense. He's done well at LCB.

If the egos don't like it, they have to go. If we bring in Ten Hag, it would be madness to not give him a lot of time to reinvent the team, even if we miss the CL next year and the year after. We're far off from contending for the CL or PL and it's not like we have a ton of long-term guys here apart from Sancho, Varane and Bruno even as they age, maybe now VDB and Lindelof. I mean who else would you bet on having 200 more appearances here? Dalot is a maybe. Rashford has so been bad for months now that even though I badly want him to come good it's hard to call. Don't particularly rate McTominay. Henderson now a maybe since he's better with his feet. Shaw has the talent so maybe him.

The last time we brought in a coach who didn’t particularly expect to be the one identifying the players was LVG. You’d hope we’ve learned from that and that the structure that will be around him will be robust enough. Unfortunately, I suspect that isn’t the case and we’ll end up going for some sort of hybrid whereby he’ll fall back on players he already knows a la LVG.

I wouldn't be dissapointed with Poch. ETH is my preferred choice, however. I suspect I favour ETH as I admire what he has managed to achieve at Ajax, I have trust in Edwin van der Sar, who in turn clearly thinks ETH is a excellent coach/manager.

There aren't many Dutch coaches with a United connection out there. It might be total nonsense but I'd like to see Stam come back just to put the fear in some of these player who don't really seem worried about not turning up week in week out.

His managerial record is pretty poor though, so not sure he'd actually be a good coach.

Did his hype rise from Ajax's CL run?

I'm just asking because whilst that was a great run - it's not like Ajax exactly had rubbish players during that season with de jong, Ziyech, de ligt and more.

I want him here to manage us and I know his good eredivisie stats but I am keeping myself a bit open minded with what I should expect here.

Just to put a name out there for Dutch coaches with a United connection - Rene Meulensteen? I don’t think there is any chance it will be Ruud, because a) he’s favourite for the PSV job, and b) how his relationship ended with Ronaldo.

The true architect of our most succesful period

Does Ten Hag have the personality to walk into the dressing room and kick all the egos into touch? I have no idea but he needs to be ruthless.
The club need to back him against the players and give him 3 years at least.
I predict there will be an internal bun fight over the next few seasons.
He is bald so he has nothing left to fear. I've personally never seen a bald man accept humiliation.

Reading this morning two other European clubs they play champions league football want him aswell and that united have woke convincing to do to get him to take the risk on coming here.

This is just Sky Sports "Dutch football expert" who mentioned this. There was no mention of this anywhere before.

Given all the talk of the issues in our dressing room, we would be foolish not to make it clear to everyone that he has complete control and his say is final. Going into this half heartedly will be a mess.

Yeah while that awful it was due to the fact that they gave up in the league when near the CL SF and rightfully so.
My post above is based on the season after the CL F they were like Leicester after winning the league they achieved what they could then went to crap as they hit their max
I mean that isn’t true. It was from January of 2019 that Spurs became shocking in all but the CL. They didn’t win an away game from January until at least September.

He did amazing stuff in the Prem with Southampton and Spurs, but I worry that his football is already dated to an extent. I just don’t see him building a team and style to match Klopp or Pep. It’s entirely possible Ten Hag can’t either, but his style is far more in line with how the absolute top sides play.

Looks like the rumours about him joining us are getting stronger by the day. I will say that I’m cautiously optimistic. He is a gamble compared to someone like Tuchel or even Poch, but he certainly has the potential to take the club to much higher heights than those two managers.

However, I hope the fans and the board are ready to give him some time to implement his structure and tactics. IMO, this certainly wont be easy or a quick fix, since a lot of our players are not suited to the more forward and possession based approach that he likes to play. I’m also a bit concerned about whether this bunch will play for him, or look down on him cause he‘s not one of the biggest names. But that should be offset when a lot of players are leaving this summer, and we likely will get a new core of players over the next two summers.

Agree with this

Definitely will need patience and time.

‘Ten Hag is flattered, but does not stare blindly at Manchester United. It is stated from the trainer’s camp that the first conversation with the Mancunians went well on Monday, but that he has been polled and approached by several clubs in recent months, of which the English giant is potentially the largest. The coach has not completely ruled out a longer stay at Ajax either.’

‘And then it’s not just about the potential of the player group for the Ajax trainer. At the faltering United, the hierarchy in several parts of the club has been lost for years, while the success of Ten Hag at his first clubs also arose from the close connections with the leadership and control in the purchase policy.’

Cocks in!

The man has an over inflated ego and the fact he's Dutch doesn't automatically mean he'd mesh well with Ten Hag. I think we should look at other options if Ten Hag gets the job

I wonder which two other clubs have expressed serious interest in Hag.
