Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

I think people misunderstand why a lot of fans want ETH rather than the more proven Pochettino.
For years this club has lurched from manager to manager without any underlying philosophy. The club, managerial appointment, squad building were all done without any clear idea of how we wanted to play and function as a club.
This club needs a playing philosophy. Scream "United Way" all you want, we do not have one. Pochettino, despite starting out with a clear tactical identity had already started to drift before he left Spurs. He started to compromise, defending deep at times, sacrificing the ball and not pressing as much.
I know cynical people don't like the sound of it but we need a "philosophy" coach. A coach that won't compromise on his playing ideals and a club willing to back those ideals
Ten Hag is a hope that the club is heading in that direction. We employed Rangnick and hopefully, Ten Hag. There's a flint of hope the club is trying to instil a playing identity and that's what Ten Hag represents.
Marcelo Bielsa is available

Why would the announcement be in a week or so? Especially when the two being mooted are both currently in jobs and still in season?

So according to Neville it’s definitely between them 2, got be ten Hag then surely. I think Neville is desperate for pochettino
He is just going by media reports

Are you going to pretend Pochettino didn't spearhead the evolution of young players at the time like Kane, Dele Alli, Son, Christian Eriksen, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose? Even Chadli's numbers exponentially grew while under Pochettino before he eventually moved on.

He made Spurs title contenders within two seasons of being there while having them playing flowing attacking football. Yes it wasn't at the level of Klopp and Pep at their best but it was impressive nevertheless and it was filled with attacking intent as evidenced by the aforementioned players attacking stats improving with each season Pochettino was at Spurs save for his last.

Perhaps you're also forgetting they made White Hart lane a fortress and place of torture in their final season there, going unbeaten all season and setting a club record. The high press and attacking football was a feature of Spurs under Pochettino
Amadeus, is that you?

Whilst I want Ten Hag more than Pochettino -

I can't pretend that I'm not more confident about Pochettino than Ten Hag.

Im not that sure about what would happen with Ten Hag.
Im pretty confident we wont win much with Poch, we would improve but not enough
Im also confident I won’t like the football much

Amount of changes we need him to make at United is huge. Hope we all are patient enough here.

We literally have zero midfield who would fit his style. Assuming Donny would take one spot, you still need a DM and a midfielder who can pass -
100m for 2.

We don't have a left footed right winger - assuming Anthony or Raphinha would come in .
50m minimum.

A striker who can hold the ball and finish.
50m minimum.

A left footed CB who can build from back- 50m minimum.

That's 250m .

Lingard, Pogba, Hendo,Jones, Cavani, Mata to leave . Hendo could give us 25m. So net amount to be spent - 200 - 225m
Don’t think he will play Donny instead of Bruno. Bruno is much better player. He will try to teach him to be less erratic.

Donny would get minutes and can play with Bruno

Ten Hag is 80% on that Gary poll with 72k votes total. He is quite clearly fan’s favourite.

It's why I want Ten Hag too. It just feels hopeful to see some good positive football at United atleast and just wait for the success to come if we deserve it.

Pochettino's football didn't really ever attract me at Spurs but that doesn't change the fact that he did well above their range and improved some players aswell. I have the feeling that Pochettino might come back with a point to prove after losing so many games at PSG.

He’s just done Poch in there. 80k vs 20k votes for Hag. Landslide victory.

I think he'll have been very aware which way it would go. I think we'll start hearing more positive takes from this lot about Ten Hag going forward, project, rebuild, "a plan for the first time" blah blah blah.

The club always push a brief.

We have learned our lesson… surely?

Edit: Stretty News is the source so take that into account.

Makes sense though. You don’t want another Rangnick that is apart from the players. The manager needs a link to this half hearted squad of players.

I thought it made sense initially but seeing it fail with every manager we’ve had tells me to let the manager choose his staff and keep Fletcher in whatever role he has.

To me, Ten Hag benefits from exotic name syndrome. I haven’t seen a superstar there but could be wrong. Whoever Utd choose they need to give them at least 3 years.
Surely an exotic name is something fancy like Bravo Sanchez or something. ETH is hardly an exotic name, you just mean he comes from another country.
There is absolutely nothing exotic about the name Erik ten Hag.

You just mean foreign.

The debate about if his name was exotic or not was the most fascinating thing in this thread for me.

Billy is right. While exotic is usually associated with something or someone from a distant country it can just mean something or someone not native or unusual to you. The name Ten Hag is definitely foreign and not native to these shores. So he is exotic.

Now to the important question of would he be a good manager for United? I really don't know what to make of him. I would say though you should get him if Poch is the other candidate. Poch has shown enough for me to know he would fail at United.

Manchester United board already fecking up their good choice in getting Ten Hag as manager by forcing a former player as his assistant. Why am not suprised.

If this is true then shit like this is the reason we've been failing for the last 9 years.

Fully agree. What bullsh*t is this. Rio is a pundit. Van Persie would be more understandable, but still ETH should be bringing his no.2 and his whole backroom staff.

Encouraging that we've interviewed him though. Hopefully signs the club is going in a better direction.

Why??? Bayern do it. Ajax do it, Madrid do it. How is it the reason we have failed??
Signing former players isn't really the issue. It's signing competent ones.
RVP who I have heard some really nice things about by the way would be a good appointment to learn from ETH. Rio would be a terrible appointment though.

Just out of curiosity, I looked at the coaching staff at Liverpool, Chelsea, and City and haven't found any former player there.

ETH doesn't bring his whole backroom staff though. That's no secret. He will only bring his assistant. The club now has to bring the right assistants. It's why am glad Ragnick is here. His connections and know how may prove very valuable.

Rio would be absolutely horrendous. At least RVP has some coaching experience at Feyenoord.

But I'd rather we feck off with this obsession with the past.

If I was ETH and they asked me that it would be a massive red flag. I mean, the club itself is just a red flag these days, but still.

Ex-players want anyone who's phone number they've got so they can be privy to what goes on behind the scenes and put their two cents in. Ten Hag would be the complete departure from utd-legend culture, although bringing RvP as an assistant would be pretty laughable.
