Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Really feels like the board are doing everything to not appoint him whilst looking like we've considered him. "Monitoring his English", my goodness

Considering how many fans want Ten Hag (including me) - I do find it interesting if he fails and then we pretend like we never wanted him.

I remember how Mourinho failed after everyone was crying for him and soon as he failed everyone pointed at the Glazers like the fans never wanted Mourinho in the first place.

This will inevitably happen. Posters will point to our ‘clueless board’, or being a ‘terribly run club’ and some other stuff about structure. This happened after pretty overwhelming support for Ole to get the permanent job too after some great results.

The point is, that no matter which manager is appointed, he needs TIME + BEING BACKED.

Not just by us supporters, but most importantly by the players and the board. If no backing from the top of the club, every single manager will fail. Don't expect miracles, this job will take time..

Like I said, I think they're trying to find excuses to not appoint him.

I think they are set on Poch and will look at alternatives until he's available. We're not going to get the man the fans want.

Agree. Get Ten Hag and back him fully, we have to trust in someone else's vision or we'll get another muddled mess. Let him build his team in his own image, that's our only hope.

We invested in this with Ole, it didnt work but thats because the vision was wrong imo.

Mourinho is a bad example, as many United fans were varying degrees of sceptical to negative when he came. I was luke warm myself but intent to be optimistic that he wanted and could be able to turn a page, but I remember many not wanting him beforehand because og his style of football, his history of ignoring youth and priotitizing short term success, his personality, his third season meltdown syndrome and plain old rivalry dislike from the Fergie days.

After he was hired, most fans lined up behind him, as is normal for fans of any club with a nee manager, and which I’ll expect from United fans when the next manager is appointed.

But to say everyone was crying for him is simply not true of how it was. To me it was the most controversial manager appointment yet.

The board will favour Poch as he'll try to make it work with this confused mess, wont demand a certain profile of player, but he will certainly fail.

By getting Erik and letting him essentially do what Pep and Klopp were given free reign to do is our only hope at being competitive within a couple of years. But we would need to let him get his players for his system.

My reservation with ETH before yesterday's derby was can he handle egos?

After the capitulation yesterday I'd get most of the egos out of the club anyway have a total rebuild...
Tbh after this summer, which big ego will we even have? Ronaldo and Pogba will be gone. The rest don’t have the right or audacity to even have an ego.

Next seasons (plural). Will need at least two seasons to challenge, assuming the Board runs the club properly.

No where close. We need at least 2 seasons/ 4 transfer windows to make some changes to the squad and then one more season at least of gelling together as a team. That's if we get it right for the most part with the transfers and squad building.

why are some people so sure the board want Poch?
Fergie's mate, the links of our interest in him are a lot more prevalent than those linking to TH. It also makes sense for the board, he will fall into line and work with what he's got. He's not going to demand players for his system.

There was even the story about getting Ancelotti until Poch was available. I really think the board are set on this.

I have lost faith in this club. I am not even sure if Pep and Klopp could take us somewhere, given that the club seems to be completely inept at anything. I absolutely won’t put any expectations on a new manager turning it around, until I see it.

I doubt we’ll get a major squad overhaul next season as many here are believing. If the new manager is expecting a lot in the transfer season, I think he would be disappointed.

Pep has no chance with us. Klopp yes, maybe but I feel this club and owners are even beyond him, but he has done great with similar situation with their American owners.

is there anything to suggest Fergie has much influence anymore?

he didn't have any links with Rangnick that I can recall

Don't see much wrong with his level of English as is.

I thought I was going mad, because I was sure he spoke great English. Then I read a post by an Ajax fan on here saying he doesn’t and thought they would know better than me, but yeah I was sure he could.

I think he does. Rangnick was a temporary solution. I hope that we make the right call but I've been burnt too many times by the decision makers at this club that I'm resigned to seeing Ten Hag build something with one of our rivals.

If we appoint him we need to go all out for him or there's no point, that is if he doesn't fancy say AWB then AWB out and if he doesn't fancy McSause then Mcsause out.
City and Liverpool backed Klopp and Pep in the same way getting rid of the likes of Y.Toure, Hart, Sagna and Zabaleta and Liverpool Benteke and Sturridge allowing them implement their system.

His English may be fine, but perhaps he is learning all possible swear words in preparation for constantly berating these bunch of primadonnas?

Probably a made up report. Bit of a cliché the usual learning English story.
Might not be. A press conference might be heavily rehearsed by him. Or he isn't that confident in his English and feels he needs to study it some more, even though it might not even be necessary .

No one was crying for him and or even wanted him. We know he was past it. You don't get that feeling with ETH, quite the opposite. Whether he will be able to turn things round, let's see, there are so many things that need fixing. But it would be a step into the right direction.

Yeah it’s one of the buzz lines when a foreign player or manager is being linked to move to another country.

His English is fine.

I am with you here. It happens with players too, as soon as they fail to perform somehow the Glazers are to blame. There is no denying the owners have failed as whole but the amount of stick they get is just amazing.
This is why I am not over excited to get ETH because in the end no matter who we get, they just turn shite and get to our level. Since Fergie this has been the case across the board.

It was a 60/40 split.
