Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

If this is true then no brainer for ETH to wait for the city job. The foundation is there for possession based Cruyff/Dutch football.
That's been known for a long time. Don't think he'd turn down the united job if offered though.

He won't unless he has an offer from Man City for 2023. Man Utd manager is one of the biggest job out there.

Didn't Pep say number of years ago once finished doing club level football would love to manage the brazilian national team??

I would prefer he goes to Manchester City after Pep Guardiola leaves than go to Manchester United. The structure of the club is such that any manager would find it hard to succeed. I hope he will listened to Louis van Gaal's interview about how the club was run. Going to Manchester United could really damage his reputation.
That's mate for telling which side of Manchester United you stand with.

If I am the board I would think hard which manager would fit the best with existing players, unless they plan to spend big and do a squat reset and completely overhaul the entire squad like Arsenal, then it doesn't matter.

Yea, I don’t see how anyone that is being objective would say ETh is more proven than poch, when poch is handling big ego at psg, has crushed expectations is the premier league, and even getting amazing result against big team and walking the league at psg when he is not limited financally like he was at spurs
This aged well.

I think this is what will happen. He can try to do a Klopp at United, which seems to be a huge risk and very likely to at least be a very bumpy ride, especially considering the difference in the media coverage and general presentation of the two sides. The media seems to want nothing more than to make people believe Liverpool is everything good in this footballing world. Man Utd on the other hand is the devil, the reincarnation of evil. Everybody and their dog will be trying to tear any efforts down and he‘ll need to spend a lot of his time dealing with non-footballing matters.

Or he chooses to go down Pep‘s path and will probably end up being known as one of the best managers of his time. If you think of yourself as one of the best managers around and haven‘t been asleep during the past 15 years, I find it hard to believe that you would choose United given the choice. You‘d probably need to have a point to prove to consider taking the Utd job and I don‘t think he has. The risk-reward ratio is clearly in City‘s favour.

If Ajax get knocked out vs Benfica at home, is that worse than what happened with PSG tonight? We praise ten Hag but mostly because of his European record (success in Erdevisie doesn't prove much really), more precisely - 2019 UCL campaign, but if they lose to Benfica, that leaves a big question mark I'd say.

No, it’s the way he has his side play. Poch has PSG playing like shit all year. It’s not just tonight

Yup, I second this and most people keep missing it. How the team plays is what is most important.

There’s a lot here seem to think going to City would be a no brainier, but I’d say it completely depends on what type of manager you are and what kind of challenge you relish. Pep clearly loves the whole chequebook manager thing, I think leaving Bayern had a lot to do with the fact that they don’t have limitless funds, Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t ETH succeeded in rebuilding a side twice with a small budget??, maybe he finds the whole oil money thing kinda gross? remember the meeting between Klopp and Woodward? At the time Liverpool we’re floundering, why did he pick them over the much easier project (on paper) at United?
It’s probably not as black and white as you think

100%. Not every manager chooses the easy route. Some like a big challenge and have every confidence in them self to be successful wherever they are. Taking us back to the top is a challenge but also an attractive option. However some managers want trophies and if you look at us and city then it’s a no brainer which one you choose who has the better chance of getting you trophies. City have the squad and have it all set up nicely for them to carry on with success even after guardiola leaves.

The blind faith in ten Hag and the overestimation of Ajax and their players is astounding! Haller!? Really, he was utterly wank in England as was Tadic. There is a reason why these two look sublime in Amsterdam and not London. Great in Europe you say? So was Maguire and Shaw until proper teams were played last summer.

Ten Hag working closing with RR would be a dream come true, if they can't get this place running better than it has been for the past decade, I'll forgive the owners because I don't know what more they could do.

Hence why I think we'll go for Poch, because the old boys club will look to his Southampton and Spurs stints and his work with their academy players and be utterly unable to shake the "he's in the mould of Fergie" garbage.

Just a genuine question.

what’s the hype around this guy?

what’s he won?

Ajax's European performances I'd imagine. Mind you, they peaked in 18/19, not neally as impressive since.

Edit: Which to be fair was almost impossible to repeat considering the league they play in/resources and that they had to sell Ziyech, Van de Beek, De Jong, De Ligt etc.

Titles? Even if they are in the Dutch league. He's also done some excellent work in Europe against much more well funded clubs whilst playing actual attacking football and not just shying away against them

2 x Eredivisie, 2 x KNVB cup and the Johan Cruyff Sheild, what ever that is.
Same as England's Charity Shield, the pre-season glorified friendly between last season's cup and league winners.
