Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

One thing I find annoying about the potential appointment of Erik Ten Hag is that it seems like we 'must' also appoint someone who has been at the club before.

Steve McClaren - was linked last week and even Luke Chadwick who played phwoar nearly 300, oops, I mean 30 games for us says Stevie should be Erik's assistant.

Robin Van Persie - seems to be the latest one.

We really don't need to be sentimental about this, McClaren was here 20 years ago - a hell of a lot has changed since then, Robin Van Persie was her 7 years ago - hardly any of the players from then are still here for him to relate to, is it really beneficial to Ten Hag?

I would much rather we kept it simple, Erik Ten Hag has done a good job at Ajax, this is why he is the top candidate... at Ajax he has his own coaching staff - these are the only people we should be looking to bring in with him - and that includes the Michell Van Der Gaag.

I think a part of it is Ten Hags supposed problems with English. Bringing in someone to get his ideas across whilst also helping him understand the club makes sense.

Also, he doesn't really have a dedicated backroom staff. The people he works with at Ajax were mostly brought in by Ajax rather than at the request of Ten Hag and he doesn't usually take a lot of coaches with him from job to job like say Mourinho used to do.

Obviously you have never been in a C suite position or parachuted into one from outside the organisation. Otherwise what ETH is doing is pretty much bog standard. Its linking up within the United org chart as smoothly as possile.
This will allow him to get up & running immediately or almost within the organisation.

Or if you were to move to a new city, wouldn't it be best for quick assimilation that you know someone local or was assigned from work to help you get around and adjust as quickly as possible?

I'm surprised BT or Sky haven't tried a late bid to get the game shown over here, because it probably would have ended up being one of the most viewed games of the weekend by far with all the Utd fans gagging to watch it. I know I'll be finding a way.

Who is showing, what foreign channels English commentary preferable?

The report is the EtH himself wants someone who knows the club on his staff

You have to win with attractive football
The problem is, even Guardiola became more defensive, it's not that simple. Peter Bosz played great football at Ajax too, tried it at Dortmund, started great and then it was downhill. I'm all for it, but it looks naive to me.

RVP could be useful as a substitute for us. Would be impossible to do worse than rashford  . Anyhow on topic isnt it reported ETH requested one assistant/staff member with Dutch football background and United link ? Would not mind so if it is his personal request not the club shoving it to his lap.

Who do you want? Rio, Fletch, we need to stop giving people jobs at our club for sentimental reasons!!!

If ETH wants and rates McClaren then I am 100% behind him. All aboard the Dutch/English express

Hopefully Meulensteen is the coach with United connections we bring in.

He’d be the best option by far, heard a lot of positive things about him from previous players that have worked with him. I think ten Hag will bring in a couple from Ajax with him and maybe 1 of meulensteen, mclaren or RVP.

I hope Erik Ten Hag knows what he is doing. He is walking into a poisoned chalice. Once Overmars left, I knew his time was up. Louis van Gaal has already warned him. This move could potentially damage his credentials.

Or could make him one of the best managers. He could have an impact here that cryuff had in Barcelona . Yes this is a risky move for his career as well but I feel a risk worth taking for any manager.

I just hope he is honest in his assessment because fans would back him.

Even if Ten Hag fails here I still think he can be a successful manager

Johan Cruijff had authority and years to change Barcelona. There are already reports that he Erik ten Hag wants Ronaldo out. Would the board let him do that? I would rather he waits for the Manchester City job or his dream job at Bayern Munchen.

Hoping ten Hag can win the final today and then go on to win the league, he’ll be coming to us as a champion and will be hungry for more success. Hope the players buy into his methods and all work towards the same goal. Already looking forward to next season, we could do with an easy start next season to get some points on the board and a winning formula going.

But no one would want instant success here as well. It's like fans would say give us a title challenge next season itself. He will get time here, enough of that. Again I seriously hope he is unconditionally backed here.

Recent reports state that he's been given all the assurances he's asked for regarding rebuilding of the team. If he is adamant that Ronaldo doesn't enter into his plans I'd expect thats already been discussed and the club accept if. Not that it's a massive problem anyway, he's only contracted for 1 more season and he can feature more prominently from the bench during that time.

It's a relatively risk-free job for ETH. If we don't qualify for the Champions League next season, his stock is not really going to drop.

If he can make Haller look like a top striker, I don't see why he can't with Ronaldo.

Honestly, Ronaldo is the easy decision.

I worry about Ten Hag being able to get rid of fringe players that simply won't help us. Look at how the club forced Rangnick to keep Lingard. For what? Stockpiling disaffected players who want out has created a toxic environment. If Ten Hag is not allowed to remove those elements from the dressing room he'll be swimming against the tide from day one.

Even as a United fan I have to admit Ten Hag would do better at City, right now, because there's no telling whether the people who run my club will change their ways.

Imagine being Pogba, Ronaldo, Lingard, Rashford, Fred, not knowing nothing about Ten Hag and then he comes in and does this

Pure. Hag.

Thank God he not got your mindset, and failure to see ahead plan for future and backs himself to be a success, instead of running of old narrative about the club and reading twitter.

Thank God he got massive balls

Any cheese with that whine?

I would have said the riskier job is taking over a team that is immensely successful. Any drop in standards and your head is on the block. Where here we are not expecting instant success. We know it will take time.

If some within the club are to be believed, it's a different club to the one that LVG met/left. And apparently, we have gone for ETH because we want him to reshape the team.
If he's successful, it will surpass any achievement he could possibly have had at another club. He would be talked about forever.

No manager will want to follow Guardiola as they will fail. Bayern? what a boring job. Unless you want a few free league titles of course.

First of all, we struggle to score goals because Cavani and Greenwood have vanished, Rashford has forgotten how to play football and we are entirely reliant on an ageing Ronaldo who has been poor more often then not despite the goals. None of that has anything to do with Bruno and the chances he creates. He is the epitome of “the last of our worries”

Second, ETHs way of playing demands, above all, energy and stamina. it’s odd you would think that there is a question mark over our only attacker who has both of those. Rashford, Ronny, Sancho - all lazy in comparison - Elanga? Bolloxed after 60 minutes - he is a kid. So how could you be concerned about Bruno more than the others? Bruno made his name at Sporting where he was given free reign in a shite team. He then became our main man and was also given reign. If anything, we should be excited by how much better Bruno might be under the right guidance and management in an actual system.

Yeah I am looking forward to seeing him in a proper midfield one day and under a coach willing to hammer him for too many Hollywood passes

Based on Fabrizio Romano's content on youtube, Erik ten Hag wants to decide with the board on every single player. It means working together about contracts, new signings, outgoings. I think it should be that way if Erik ten Hag is the guy we really trust to give him enough time for the rebuild. To be honest, I don't like what our board were doing especially for contracts term on new signings and contract renewal on current squads for so long time. Even the last summer when they gave 350K pound/week for Sancho and Varane, it could lead to trouble how we shift out the players if they can't perform up to the required standard. No other club can agree with player due to so expensive salary that they can't fulfill.
