Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

I'm feeling something very strange, I think it's... hope for the future? It's bizarre!

This is likely getting announced next week isn’t it, after Ajax play psv in the final.

A lot of the fanbase seem to live in a fantasy world, thinking we'll replace all or most of the underperforming players or the players they hate. We're not getting more than 4-5 players that'll directly go into Ten Hag's starting line up in the next 2-3 transfer windows. So, getting the players on his side and getting a tune out of them will be make or break for him. People seems to have moved on to just blaming the players now for not playing well, not putting in effort and what not since Ralf has come in. But a lot of the responsibility on making sure the players play well and put in effort lies on the manager. Ole got sacked cause he couldn't do that this season, and Ralf would have been sacked as well if he wasn't an interim manager. So, Ten Hag's job will depend on how well he does that too.

4-5 players over 2-3 windows is more than achievable

Pretty much, the way people are talking you have to wonder what is the point of a head coach, apparently man-management and coaching aren't part of it. Now the problem is that the squad has been poorly built, we have too many young players that need to prove their worth in the first team and we have veteran players that have been subpar. For example if Rashford and Martial can be even remotely passable, we can give a real chance to the likes of Amad, Pellestri and Elanga, the same applies to Fred, McTominay and Pogba because it would allow us to test Garner and Mejbri. But unless ten Hag is given a free ride in 2022-2023, we will have to try to bring a starting CM/DM, RW and striker.

PR or otherwise, Murtough has handled himself quite well in his role so far. Of course I reserve judgement to see how he does this summer window which is massive for us, but it appears that Arnold delegating footballing matters to him has been a positive development compared to his clown predecessor.

The guy had an impressive resume before he came here so I'm not surprised that he's seen as a genius compared to the chinless dickhead who ran the club into the ground. Just a shame that he's a Scouser...

You sound surprised that it’s a change from the usual self-loathing and bashing.

I guess it's just funny that they are saying how great we are. Funny when you factor in that it is our 5th permanent appointment in 9 years after mistakes in managerial and player recruitment. Hardly an excuse to start singing their praises about their recruitment in this instance. Only if it pays off in the long run could you run with a story like that in my opinion.

Almost feels like our PR team is trying to hype Murtough up as this football savant who's mates with all top coaches.

He's got a history of hiring coaches, albeit at youth level. So it's not a surprise that it's being reported that people unconnected to United have said the process he led was impressive. Also the article in question mentions Richard Arnold giving Murtough the autonomy to conduct the head coach search in his own way. Which is a first for us.

Murtough is actually from Longsight in Manchester but got his big break in football at Everton.

Oh my god!! Are we never fecking satisfied here at the CAF!?
We cry out for years to get someone like Murtough in and now there’s proof he can do what the job entails (like many of you wanted) it’s simply a PR move. Jesus fecking christ above. I give up. I really do.

I personally don’t see a player in that Spurs winger but if its true that ETH wants him, then in him we trust I guess. Looks like a one trick pace merchant to me from what I’ve seen of him.

We`re getting 3-4 first team players this summer so this logic goes out the window.
Not even Utd with their incredible incompetence will go for 2-3 years buying only 4-5 players

All positive news is PR. All negative news is true.

Calm down pal I was 99% joking. I'm going to need a bit longer before I'm fully convinced by Murtough and his recruitment team as I've been burned too many times by this club. Were Maguire and AWB not signed under his watch?

Huh? Read the post carefully. 4-5 regular starters in 2-3 transfer windows.

No. They were signed under Woodward.

John Murtough was appointed DoF In February 2022.

Maybe he plans to use him as rb/rwb IF true.

As a 40-something year old man, it's always funny to reduced to a 'newb'.
Congratulations big guy, you spend more time on the internet than me.
Our day will come when we can mingle with the big boys
This is hilariously condescending. We’ll have to take a look at your fantastic contributions and learn from them!
Given @MvG hasn't been on the forum a year and was promoted in September, I'm assuming it was a joke. :)

(If not, I'll join the eyerolling. ;) )

Phew about the bolded because I was starting to get worried. Scousers in big offices, managers with landlord parents!
