‘We zijn overeengekommen *** ik vanaaf 16 mei in dienst van Manchester United ben’

‘In dienst van’ can mean either ‘at the service of’ or ‘in the service of’, which spans the difference of being ‘helpful’ and being ‘employed’. Anyway, he states his objectives for the first period (discussing selection of squad and staff), so we really don’t need to speculate too much on the job description during the first weeks.

in dienst genomen would normally mean your employment contract starts on that day

He says he agreed with the club to start on the 16th so I guess he is officially our manager now.

So who will be the manager against Palace then?

im pretty certain Ralph

don’t think ETH would risk starting like this, he’s had no time to train the players and let’s be honest Palace are probably gonna turn us over

He knows this is a huge job, but a big task.

Instead of thinking i've made it to the top and relaxing, he's getting straight on with seeing just how much of a mess we really are in.

I think this guy is going to be fantastic for us I really do. He is the obsessive type that doesn't really want time off from football. We needed our own maniac.

Yup seems like a proper football workaholic nerd like Pep. Just what we need.

Yeah, really a tragedy that he is realistic enough to know that he can't switch out the whole team and needs to work with the players he got. Really stupid of him, if he would only listen to the United fans who essentially want him to fire everyone on the team and completely rebuild the squad in 2 weeks, because that' possible on FM, so he shouldn't complain. :wenger:
Modern day mentality, I want everything now

because he wants to speak to the players, see training and speak to the management. If he does everything right, he rubber stamps the ins and outs for the summer over the next two weeks or so, and can then find two weeks for a holiday knowing that Murtough knows what he wants and just has to action it.

If ETH gives them 4-5 candidates for each position then each of these can be progressed in parallel, and he can just deal with the rest on phone/zoom.

There is so much work to be done this summer. We need the majority of our signings in place for the start of preseason. If we overpay for Fellani mk2 on the last day of the window then the season is already lost.
You've nailed it.

We simply cannot afford to start our recruitment after he comes back from his holidays and starts pre season. It's great he's gonna put his needs and requirements right now. No need to spend half the pre season evaluating the duds we've already got. I love it

Actually i am celebrating eth's professionalism. He starts the job immediately. He doesn't feck off to a holiday in the middle of a crisis and I read that he doesn't even delegate training to others as he likes to do training himself.

Yep hopefully it'll be like night and day between Erik and Ralf.

Ralf had zero power at this club. He wasn't even allowed to have a say on who should get loaned or whom we should buy in January. The guy had to work with a team built by an amateur who tanked despite spending 420m on the squad. No wonder why he failed

Why does everyone keep questioning who the manager will be against Palace? It will be RR. ETH will most probably be sitting with the Directors in the stand somewhere - which we’ve seen a million times before: new managers watching and assessing the team they’re about to take over before they officially start the gig.

"and ten Hag's seen enough, he's coming down to the technical area! Incredible scenes at Selhurst Park!"

I like the fact he has decided to start early here but surely he will just be in the stands on Sunday and not actually be managing us.

I imagine he is taking this week to bed in chat to the owners and Arnold etc.

He may meet with the players but I wouldn't really expect him to be working with them just yet

- So Ten Hag starts today,
- wants to work with Ronaldo,
- basically says Neville, Ferdinand and Scholes should shut up. Because they are United icons their opinions may influence the dressing room.
The future United manager realizes that former players Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville have quite the influence at Old Trafford. "That has influence, but should never affect the dressing room," he makes clear. "Perhaps the criticism is more severe there. The club simply has a larger fan base and more reach than Ajax, because England is much bigger, the Premier League is much bigger and everything is actually much bigger. Compared to the Netherlands, it is factor 2, 3, 4 or maybe even more. Fortunately, I have acquired more and more knowledge of how to deal with certain force fields."

EtH is Doctor Strange apparently

I wonder what managerial credentials do the likes of Neville and Scholes have to go on live TV and preach about ETH
Not more than many other ex player pundits. Saying that, they do speak a lot of crap, especially Scholes.

He sounds like Count Dooku from Star Wars

Funny, in an interview after the Ajax match I personally heard him say he’s flying in to Manchester today.
Fair enough, I know he's starting work this week but presumed he was going to the club offices in London based on the stories that came out over the past 24 hours. If he's going to Manchester instead then great, I know I'd sooner spend the week in Manchester than London. :D

Same was said about Ralf.
In fairness Ralf had no power over them and they knew that. They knew he wouldn't be here next season and they knew that he wasn't being backed by the board with regards incomings/outgoings as shown by the players pretty much downing tools since the end of January.

Considering the season starts sooner after the summer, he’s very smart to pick up things asap.
I think as people have said he will likely identify coaching staff, have important conversations with Murtough, whether its transfer targets or arrangements for the tour, it will need to happen now.

Hopefully it includes a sharp and detail orientated conversation with Ralf to give him a bit of a heads up for the trouble Makers, ETH will then of course be able to make his own judgements based off of that conversation.

Id really like to see swift responses to all of the outgoing players they can’t go on tour and we don’t want prolonged negotiations.

The fans have been witness to the worst premier league season we have ever had, no analysis is needed on some of the rotten core and we don’t want to be waiting till post tour for some of the biggest offendors to go.
