Ten Hag starts as manager tomorrow... fantastic he is coming so early so he can hit the ground running.

Hopefully in to say sell these players and buy in those players. Imperative we get players in before pre season instead of waiting until the last few weeks of the window.

I cant put anything past this club, but surely can't be as incompetent as to leave transfers so late in the summer. We need to get the team gelling as soon as possible and the longer they are training together the better.
Early signs are that ETH looks like he means business and good luck to him.

If he hits the ground running that is more than most of our players have achieved this season... He should put himself in the first team

We're going to reunite that ajax team from 2018/2019 aren't we?
As great and exciting as that was, I really hope not. Trying to rebuild what he had at Ajax with the same players eg De Jong, De Ligt etc would give me nightmares of Moyes’ window when he tried to sign half the Everton team.

Look at Klopp, when he joined Liverpool he didn’t instantly go looking to raid Dortmund. Not did Pep at City go after Bayern players. A sign of successful managers is that they tend to start from scratch with each new job.

To be fair, his Ajax teams have been pretty good. Everton were a mid-table side. Also the players he's allegedly targeting are players who have attracted Europe's elite clubs e.g. De Jong currently starts for Barcelona. The Everton players Moyes was targeting could only dream of getting signed by elite European teams.

There’s no denying that when it comes to football he definitely knows what he’s talking about unlike people like OGS who never ever talked about tactics etc in press conferences. Ten Hag is going to need some help when he starts next season and there’s no better person then rangnick to help him since he knows what we need to succeed having been there for halve a season.

:wenger: :wenger: :rolleyes::rolleyes:

WTF!!! Are you 12?

We are going to be in trouble pretty quickly, if Ten Hag starts giving out tactical information during his press conferences.

No elite teams was/are raiding Everton for their talent while elite teams are raiding Ajax for their talent every season. De Jong, De Ligt, VDB, Ziyech, Gravenberch, etc. There's a huge gulf in terms of talent between these 2 teams.

Are you saying that if Ten Hag had come 2 years ago and you'll turn down the chance to sign the likes of De Jong or De Ligt if he wants to bring them with him?

such a dumb and unnecessary comment. Can't we just enjoy the hope we have with ETH and not try and derail the thread with stupidity?

Actually i am celebrating eth's professionalism. He starts the job immediately. He doesn't feck off to a holiday in the middle of a crisis and I read that he doesn't even delegate training to others as he likes to do training himself.

guy should just go on holiday and enjoy his time off. I don't know why this whole coming to Manchester early thing is being equated to "professionalism"

The club is a mess. He needs to make sure that everything is sorted prior to leaving the club. It also an opportunity to watch the squad in training including their fitness regime.

He is still going on holiday as planned. He's just quitting Ajax early, not joining their post season trip, to start immediately here. He'll go on holiday sometime in the next few weeks.

Because he's our manager and we are not in vacations.

Already a great start to the ETH era. Showing commonsense. Come in, set foundations for success, then go for a break.

I think he will be converted into a CB.

yeah that is more likely I suppose

But I have a feeling ETH might like him for his attitude and his engine and try him as a RB, much to the dismay of this forum

but then, he’d need some serious work on his positional nous for it to work (he needs that anyway)

Exactly this.

All the players can go on a break understanding what conditioning work is needed. More importantly what the expectations are of them under his leadership.

Shrewd move

Not crazy about the idea of McTom as defender, it should be noted that positioning is one of the areas where Ten Hag is particularily good at developping players individually. He uses a grid system he paints on the pitch, according to McClaren.

Unless the translation is wrong, Erik ten Hag is quoted as saying "we have agreed that I will be employed by Manchester United from the 16th of May, in preparation for the season.

‘We zijn overeengekommen *** ik vanaaf 16 mei in dienst van Manchester United ben’

‘In dienst van’ can mean either ‘at the service of’ or ‘in the service of’, which spans the difference of being ‘helpful’ and being ‘employed’. Anyway, he states his objectives for the first period (discussing selection of squad and staff), so we really don’t need to speculate too much on the job description during the first weeks.

There are managers in football who are completely obsessed with football. They literally don’t care about anything other than football. I’m talking about Pep and Klopp here. There’s a reason they are monsters in the game. I’m hoping Hag is like this too.

Yes not everyone is like this. But there’s a reason not everyone aren’t freaks of the game like Pep and Klopp too.

Not everyone is wired the same way. Can’t really enjoy your break if you have a lot of things nagging your mind in the background. Maybe he feels like he doesn‘t need a break, or that he wants to get some initial groundwork done before going off on a holiday so that things already progressing while he’s away.

Either way, this is very promising for us fans. Shows he really wants to succeed and is willing to take that extra bit of responsibility to make sure of that.

because he wants to speak to the players, see training and speak to the management. If he does everything right, he rubber stamps the ins and outs for the summer over the next two weeks or so, and can then find two weeks for a holiday knowing that Murtough knows what he wants and just has to action it.

If ETH gives them 4-5 candidates for each position then each of these can be progressed in parallel, and he can just deal with the rest on phone/zoom.

There is so much work to be done this summer. We need the majority of our signings in place for the start of preseason. If we overpay for Fellani mk2 on the last day of the window then the season is already lost.
