If that is true then well done to whoever made that decision, it seems we may have realised that being sentimental and appointing people simply because they are an ex employee does not bring success, a perfect example is Pat Phelan, he looked like he was having a nap on the bench on many an occasion.

How can that monster sleep after what he did to Anna Windass and Eileen Grimshaw.

I prefer ETH than Poch. But that's completely unprofessional.
Unprofessional? When I change jobs I have to do 3 - 5 round interview stages. The second or third stage is always a technical test that involves taking home and working on a project in your own time or performing a technical examination while on the premises and being supervised. The whole process is at least 4 hours long and then they turn around and say something like "we think you need more experience working with larger applications". Something they knew by looking at your CV weeks ago.

Anyone that works in a professional setting will know this is standard. It's not a case of "we need someone who can drive a fork lift and get's out of bed on time". Pochettino didn't do enough to get the job, it's on him.

He would get in any team in world football for me. Up until the last 6 months, all rival fans would have taken him in a heartbeat and said he was up there with De Bryne as the best attacking mid in the league. as usual, you are only as good as your last game though on this forum, yawn...

Then those fans are idiotic because he wouldn't get into any of the top teams in the world.

By unprofessional I mean they didn't communicate to Poch that he is not a candidate anymore, instead of him learning by us announcing ETH. But after doing 4-5 interviews or even one, won't you like to be informed that you are not considered anymore, instead of learning it through let's say LinkedIn?

Well there was a journo reporting the other week that United were contacting Pochettino to let him know he was unsuccessful in landing the role. They may have told his agent and not him directly, the papers love these technicalities

It's an awkward situation. I don't think they wanted to announce it yet, but ETH being bombarded with questions forced our hand. Whichever way it happened it could have ended up ETH being announced just by process of elimination if the other candidates came out and said they hadn't been chosen.

I want so many ins and outs this summer that I have to keep going back and looking at lists to remind myself who plays for us.

Oh absolutely. Indeed, they may have informed his agent, or even him. Of course, it is just paper talks and we will probably never learn the truth.

I understand what you went through with regards to interviews, for me, I'm firm believer in that interviews should not be more than 2 stages, perhaps for specific professions or top level jobs like CEOs or the like might require a different process of interviewing, but usually 2 interviews is sufficient to discern if a candidate fits the open position, and when a candidate is not successful/selected, he/she should be duly informed, that is the standard, companies nowadays even automate this and send a customary automatic email/SMS that says. "We regret to inform you ...."( I received one before lol) which is more than enough and easy to do.

As for Poch, if the club interviewed him few times, then at the very least he should have been informed that he was selected, that's the right thing to do, however I'm skeptical of the report that claims he wasn't informed.

If you don't to want sell Pereira for peanuts that's fine, but for the love of god don't give him a new contract you mad bastards.

Funny how the ex bindippers, are spouting not one of the top 4 teams wouldn't have taken ETH, and advising players to run a mile if UTD come calling, ffs whats that all about, did any ex UTD player etc, say anything like that when Klopp was announced, he won probably the same in Germany as ETH has in Holland.

Jeez when does the negatives stop, there is absolutely no need for it, these are supposedly professional people . I hope ETH can shut them up..

I couldn’t agree more. That’s the hardened reality most specialised professions face.

Tbh unlike us now, pre-Klopp Liverpool was still a club where younger players did improve and go on to do well. Sterling and Suarez left better players, and the likes of Sturridge and Coutinho peaked there as well. Contrast that to United now where we seem to ruin players. So while its a painful truth, I don't think its unfair to suggest that we're not exactly a great place for younger players to come in. Of course we hope that changes under ETH, but Carragher wasn't wrong here. He was also slightly quoted out of context from his Telegraph article since he was talking about United over the last few years, he wasn't suggesting young players avoid United in the future under ETH.

And you dont do that unless you have one secured. Normal procedure on that level, and Poch would know that.

Good news everyone

Andreas was the Hannibal Mejbri of his time when he was playing in the reserves. If Ten Hag's coaching is as good as people say, there's a chance Pereira could actually do a job. Guy has better footballing ability than say, the likes of McTominay. Given that we're losing Matic, and most likely Pogba, wouldn't hurt to have him as cover.

This seems a little classist

I’d have to disagree. You can’t coach ability and strength. He had a decent run of games under Ole at the start of his rsign and he showed nothing. He was just a body on the field like Lingard. He needs to go.

The stuff from the final week of negotiations about wanting influence on transfers turned out to be true. Don't know why it was treated like such a bad thing. By his own words wasn't asking for autonomy but influence. You can't ice a coach like ETH out of transfers. He'll for sure have ideas on the profile of player he likes.

Think we need to curb our expectations a little. The man will have to restructure our whole approach to the game on the pitch, it could get worse before it gets better as he identifies the players that can play that style, get rid of the ones that can't etc.

This is an unreal announcement though, first time in a while I'm genuinely excited for a manager. Even if we don't win, you can at least bet we'll be great to watch eventually.

I don't recall that is the case. Hannibal is highly sought after youth player. IIRC Barcelona, and Bayern were the other we had to fight off for his signature. His situation is likened to when we got Pogba. So a youth player that already stand out, and destined to make first team.

Pereira is just better one in the class, but ultimately nobody. McTominay is meh, but at least he's more PL relevant when he's out there compared to Pereira. Pereira is the definition of nothing player. Taking ages to make it flashy for a pass that obvious 5 seconds ago. Throwing his body around but opposition easily go past him as if he's not even there. Losing most duel. Choosing wrong options most of the time. Ultimately, he's not even good enough for PL teams in bottom half of the table.

We have McFred, Gardner, VdB, Hannibal as is for next season. Adding the needed DM signing, we're well stacked in number for midfield position. Ole's tenure shows us that it does hurt both the result and morale having a bloated squad but without required specialist and quality.

Edit: let's not forget Bruno that you need to consider if you can't shoehorn up top. You would need a role for him midfield.

Pereira was not as good as Mejbri. Pereira did not do well for the u23s until 2014-2015. So it's as if it took him a year older (19.5 years) for him to start doing well for the u23s compared to Mejbri (did well at 18.5 years). Mejbri is more talented than Pereira.

But apart from that correction, my comment is not really relevant to your point.

I was listening to a podcast interview of one of Ten Hags former players, and my favourite statement from the interview was when the player explained how when Ten Hag joined Go ahead Eagles he made sure the kitchen lady reorganized the way she placed bottles on a table after every game as he would claim little distinctions like that would help the Eagles be more successful.

I’m so glad we’ve finally found our own bald nutter

Yeah, same. But, we should stop waiting for a saviour also (another Fergie). If it doesn't work out, hire another progressive coach. Don't go for Simeone after, like we did with Mourinho.

Just wondering how our lot will swim in this. :nervous:

Multiple players making intelligent runs off the ball. Quick zippy passing and probing balls beyond the defence. What sort of weirdness is this?

He"ll soon learn from our players that walking around, passing sideways and backwards and only running when you are sure of getting the ball is the way things are done in the EPL.

Seriously I think his first season will look terrible on paper, but if we get a few minutes of this sort of aggressive flyid play after years of dross... he'll have my support no matter what happens.

The media will have a field day with Ralf’s comments in the summer. Linking every single player with United. Even more than previous seasons. Best to stay off any football related media in the summer.

Also, is it just me or is anyone else feeling like it’s all deja vu at this point? We shit the bed under the previous manager, new manager comes in. Expectations are sky high. Talks of rebuilding the team from scratch. Huge emphasis on signings in that summer. The whole 3 yesr rebuild project. Only for it to crash and burn by the second or third season. I hope this isn‘t the case this time.
