I do wonder what would happen if ETH doesn't agree to whatever new terms INEOS want in his contract.

Usually when you see a quote like that it's to do with money, but ETH doesn't strike me as someone driven by the money, and if I recall correctly some of the dutch posters here have said he comes from an extremely rich family, so that's unlikely to be his motivation.

There probably are some finer points of what he can and cannot do that they are haggling over.

These quotes from ETH

I've said it before but you've got to be a bit unhinged to manage at this level and have that confidence/arrogance in yourself. I don't mind him getting shit off his chest and not having some self awareness. Just come back in pre-season and coach the team with a bit of fire so we play on the front foot ffs.

ETH will rinse them in contract negotiations. Ineos boxed themselves into the 'we look like rank amateurs' corner, and put themselves in the position where they actually need ETH to get a new contract to give an impression of them being in control and being proactive.

Meanwhile ETH is negotiating from a point of view where he's already guaranteed £9m payoff whatever happens, and has been made to look in-demand again.

All of which is of course why only a band of total idiots would be trying to renegotiate the managers contract right now, before the new season has even started.

They have a manager.
They want a head coach and a powerful DoF.
They can't sign Ashworth in this role without changing EtH's contract. They have to negotiate with him about it.

But I do agree he will rinse them.

They definitely can, Ashworth wouldnt jeopardise the job because of a slightly different job title for the first season or whatever, or because the current manager has more control than they would all like.

But it does show Ineos have done all the exact wrong things in the wrong order.

And if Tuchel and RdZ both turned them down because their "ideal structure" sounded shitty to them, they're abject idiots if they thought announcing ETH staying would be a good idea before signing a new deal with him. If Tuchel and RdZ dont like the sound of it, why would they think ETH would easily agree?

I appreciate the comments about Southgate primarily because he is right. ETH oversaw loads of issues last season but playing too safe was certainly not one of them

Southgate has learnt nothing…..any club side hiring him after this needs their brains tested

He just doesn’t understand how to change games.

That's why it's funny, because it would be so petty. He called them new and indecisive, so they make an example.
Yeah if I was part owner of a club paying millions to someone I'd expect a bit more respect in public.

I'm absolutely loving how rattled the usual suspects are every time ten hag gives an interview.

Coupled with his earlier comments on Tuchel, this man is absolutely shameless. In a way I kinda respect it.
He can be pretty funny when he has nothing to lose , like right after the cup win he said something like, if they don't want me I'll just win trophies somewhere else.

He's got his balls firmly planted on Ratcliffe's head

Do people believe Ten Hag has done better with United than Southgate has done with England?

Yes, by a mile.

It's weird that a few people on redcafe seem to spend their days being baffled by the very existence of Ten Hag.
Let it go already, for God's sake.

The reports said we got to the point of discussing personal terms, which means offering a contract, to Tuchel and to RdZ.

First there was like a collective desperation among some people to deny all these meetings were even taking place, though of course ETH has put paid to that belief system. But still people dont seem ready to accept that ETH is not Ineos' first choice. Maybe not even their second or third or fourth choice if we include McKenna, RdZ and, of course, Southgate. They bodged up their selection process and we're now witnessing a 3 way face saving exercise by all parties.

What a load of nonsense. Personal terms need to be more than just discussed before anyone is offered a contract. They need to be finalised and agreed. Then and only then can you draft a contract, never mind “offer it” to anyone.

Of course they can Ashworth, but can't give them as mich power as they would like, that was the point.

Southgate is a useless cnut but Ten Hag has got some nerve saying that after the season he's just had. Feels like projection.

He’s being hired to be a pundit. He’s supposed to talk about the match they’re watching. Do you think he should have pleaded the 5th and refused to criticise anyone on the basis that Manchester United have just had a bad season?

So many terrible takes in this thread. As usual.
