How so?

Most managers have a style of play, which the the reason they are hired.

What football club has hired a manager and said, we want you to play a certain way and worked?

In most instances, the football club decide we want to play a way and hire manager that fits it.

You wouldn't hire Jose and ask him to play the Pep way would you?

Managers nowadays generally have a pre-defined way of playing. They go to clubs with the philosophy rather than the other way around.

You cant hire Di Zerbi and expect low block

Same way you dont expect Moyes to play attacking football.

Nah man, this is how it is supposed to work from now on. Take Ajax as an example, or Barça.

Who we can appoint as manager will be partially dependent on the said outlined playstyle.

Correct and that's why they wouldn't hire Moyes or Mourinho etc. The club will have a model that they want implemented irrespective of the coach, so long as the high level philosophy is consistent. There's nothing contraversial there?

Whatever the decision in the end I'm not really confident about the future under INEOS. Kinda feels like 2 years ago when it was announced Rangnick would leave the club after all the talk of him staying in consultancy role, club finally making wise decisions, structure etc.
 
This ridiculous delay, not matter who ends up manager has seriously dashed any hope that I had that INEOS have things under control. It's a complete farce already, we are already lagging behind everyone else in terms of building for next season.

Throwing Rangnick out was one of the best decisions made by us in the post SAF era. The guy was a charlatan.

You may be right, I don't know. But there was all this talk about keeping Rangnick and moving him in consultancy role and then bringing in ten Hag as manager so we'd have more of a football structure above manager etc. Then end of the season they announced Rangnick would leave and it felt like "Oh, they actually don't know what they want and don't have a plan" situation.

Was he though? Clearly unsuited as manager but that wasn't what he was brought in for. Prior to the appointment he had an impressive reputation with the work he's done in ascending RB and his recommendations of us having to gut the majority of the squad and bringing in a considerable number of signings were clearly dignified with the benefit of hindsight. And IIRC it was Ten Hag's decision to not work with him instead of a club one (why we gave Ten Hag that agency I don't know).

They probably saw what Rangnick was about in the 6 months he was here. You are right that we deviated from the plan (we should have brought in someone in place of Rangnick instead).

Leads me to think if they were gonna do it, they'd have already done it by now.

We were massively short for left backs. Shaw was cleared by the medical team. Shaw cleared himself. But hey, keep trying to stick it on EtH.

I'm with you but I feel this is down to Ashworth and co not being in position yet. They could be waiting until Ashworth can speak with him officially, whenever that may be. At least I hope it's that and not them waiting on Southgate to be available.

This is just a negative spin. There's nothing wrong with talking to potential managers to see if there's common ground in terms of approach, particularly if you're then prepared to walk away at the end if you can't agree on things. After all, there's only a relatively small number of managers on the market at any one time, you're never going to get someone who aligns 100% with your vision.

I’m concerned with that too. Ten Hag said there already is one (one that fits the club imo; fast attacking football).

I hope that whatever they cook up is something we like.

This reads like it was dictated by a PR consultant working for Ten Hag's agent. :lol:

As I've said all along, Ten Hag can have no complaints if he's sacked after finishing 8th in the league. He showed in the Cup final that he could send out a team to be defensively sound. Had he done so six months ago, we would not have been giving up 20 shots a game to s-t teams and probably would've finished 4th.

However, its sickening to think we're likely sacking him for a coach who doesn't have even a shred of his quality.

We all will and that's what makes you wonder what's going on upstairs.

You can't finish 8th at Man Utd and expect to keep your job. However, just imagine we start the season with Southgate and get smashed in the Community Shield: Ten Hag's last game at United will have been winning at Wembley against Pep, Southgate's first will be getting demolished at Wembley by Pep. The contrast will be clear to everyone and the fans, who never wanted Southgate in the first place, will go absolutely ballistic.

After that Gareth will be onto a hiding. Unless we go on the kind of run we did when Ole first came in, all of us will just be waiting for him to fail. Its what we expect and at the first sign of trouble that confirmation bias will spread around Old Trafford like a pandemic. Don't tell me the players won't be affected. Seeing the club turn down Champions League and title winning coaches to go for Gareth Southgate only to see it all go to s-t.

Sacking Ten Hag for Southgate is setting us up for a horrible season.
