I came here just to support the manager! Bring pep to coach the team that lost to crystal palace yesterday and we will still lose. We lack quality players and players who have determination! How many manutd players last night will get into crystal palace squad???
At least you are transparent in your agenda to support Ten Hag and not the club

Which journalist/newspaper was responsible for the leaks/reports last week the vast majority of the squad was up for sale? certainly not the best way to prepare for a game, with a cup final on the horizon. Regardless of who is in charge next season those leaks need to stop.

That kind of things often comes from agents. If the club has told a few of them that they are open for offers, then agents will start talking behind the scenes.

Last season yeah, there was two transfer windows in between and Luton signed better players.

I'm not being argumentative haha, I just don't agree with you. We are debating, that is the entire point of the forum mate.

Antony was a target that the club unanimously landed on. I think the problem here is more the club's failure to put down a single right winger and say "no mate, you're getting this guy". If Klopp can suggest Brandt over Salah and still be a top coach, I think the likes of Ten Hag can make a feck-up with Antony in the boardroom too. The problem is our support was so shite we actually went ahead with experimenting with that for a fee 3x more than his supposed worth.

No, I'm claiming that we didn't actually trust our own scouts with targets to challenge his own with. We did worse than that and sacked the global scouts when he joined.

I don't think you know what we're debating anymore. I agree most of our shortlisted players are known to Ten Hag. I'm asking why this ever was the case. Why is it a club like Manchester United are so heavily reliant on the manager to propose targets of his own?
The answer is that the structure/decision makers at the club are clueless.

Yes, the structure/decision makers at the club are useless. One of the major indicators of how useless they are is the clueless manager they chose, and then chose to persevere with, despite some of the most useless coaching, tactics and performances we’ve seen in the PL era.

Scholes and Owen, two actual top class players who played under great managers = shit pundits.

Andy Mitten, who once sat down with ETH = Worth listening to as he probably has a better insight into his coaching.

The world as per VP89. Couldn't write this shit.
You think top players make top pundits? There is something seriously dumb with your logic, il let you work it out on your own but won't hold my breath.

He then proceeded to sanction the purchases of Onana and Antony, and the loans of Weghorst and Amrabat.

Come on.

This is exactly why people are highly skeptical of ETH.

(Or: it's one of the reasons.)

He has - seemingly - had much of the same freedom to build a team previous United managers have had.

And he reportedly craved just that freedom - it was a reason why he fancied the gig in the first place.

You can't possibly say with a straight face that he has been hampered by transfers like Antony and Onana when it's bleedin' obvious that he, himself, was the number one factor in bringing those players in.

Weghorst too. Do you think Murtough forced Weghorst on ETH?

Leaks will never stop, for a club the size of ours there is too many who know somebody from within or someone who knows someone who knows someone. Most is Chinese whispers but some do tend to be true.

You think Michael ‘state the bleeding obvious’ Owen and Paul ‘miserable bastard’ Scholes are good pundits?!

Why are you convinced our squad is so elite when they have done nothing to show it in the last 11 years?

Yes that’s right the famous elite squad test, whether or not they’re good enough to be squad members at Crystal Palace

They’ve twigged that Tuchel is orders of magnitude better at being a football manager so what the hell are they swapping them for

I've been of the oipinion for weeks that it was pointless sacking him before the end of the season. But things are getting worse week on week, his position is now untenable. He has to go asap.

I thought the same, however irrelevant as INEOS have zero intention of sacking him yet

There is also the matter of actually finding an interim manager and coaching staff for less than a month. Who is even available and ready to kick in to gear in a matter of days.

Why is it so hard for some of you to accept that having an underwhelming squad and a crap manager are not exclusive? Yes our squad is a shambles but that doesn't excuse the absolute shit show ETH is producing week in week out. So yes, while our squad needs an overhaul we absolutely must get rid of EtH as well. Asap.

Except senior Execs have publicly disparaged and annoyedTuchel so much that, barring his having no viable options whatsoever, he's going to walk regardless come end of May, whilst Bayern are floundering around trying to get anyone with half a track record or 'potential' to sign-up instead. It wouldn't surprise me if they genuinely Did end up with Ten Hag come June 1st.

Our squad is better than the current 14th even with injuries. In general your point is correct but that's beside the original point, nearly all our players would be picked by Palace instead of theirs.

It’s depressing that we went toe to toe with a (ok not the best) Barca side just last season and now we look like we’d struggle in the championship. What the feck has happened

I don't agree with your take on ETH, but I do agree with your take on Owen and Scholes.

I've never met Michael Owen, but he's obviously an utter idiot (and possibly insane).

I have met Andy Mitten, and he's a normal bloke who seems fairly intelligent (in a general sort of sense).

As for Scholes...I dunno. He's...possibly...nah, he's a bit simple (sorry, that would be my take). His brains seem to be located mainly in his feet, let's say.

ETA

Scholes: Could possibly be unconventionally intelligent.

Owen: No chance, he's just plain stupid.

Our squad has been in decline for 11 years, regardless of the players that make it up.
Remember when Arnie went to the pub and told those lads that our squad had nothing to show for £1bn spent? He then proceeded to sanction the purchases of Onana and Antony, and the loans of Weghorst and Amrabat.

That statement makes no sense mate.

We have a real lack of quality and depth which has been exacerbated and exposed by all the injuries this season. Our team really isn’t that good anymore.

Well 60% of it's been bought in the last 2 years, so maybe we should sack the guy who's been the main driver behind that squad building over that period.

Well he’s hardly had the options for too much variation. Most games likely haven’t been approached in line with any sort of plan or vision, they have been approached as individual events to simply fond a way to get through somehow with what we have.

The biggest disappointment from me if I had to pick was that I had looked at our team last season and felt it was obvious that we just needed to improve on Eriksen and Weghorst to give us a real chance. However, Ten Hag’s initial plan seemed to be to tear up all the work from last season and try something new. And then it all went to shit quite quickly anyway with players being missing for long periods and Casemiro not bringing anywhere near the same level this season.

I think a good summer can do a lot here, and I don’t see that we definitely need a change yet.

I think there has been a plan and a vision it was just a shit one. And I don't think any attempt has been made to get through games and adapt to what's available, we've just plodded on with the same set-up all season regardless of which players are available.

And we've had options in attack and midfield all season, injuries haven't been too bad in those areas to be fair.

You miss my point. I was saying the squad is lacking in both depth and quality and has been since Sir Alex left.

I thought those silly Southgate links were dead now

Shite source thankfully

Fully Ten Hag In if Southgate is who they go for. I’d take a season of 4-0 defeats and relegation to avoid Southgate as manager

Yeah about 9 months of them.

So are they going to just tell everyone no more poor performances and results then?
There were plenty of shocking performances last season too. Brentford, Liverpool, City spring to mind. But because we won the league cup (after a very favourable draw), some people think last season was a brilliant one.
As for this season, the writing was on the wall from game one against Wolves.

We're in the late stage looney toon phase now.

It feels like some desperate last attempt to defend an obviously failing manager.

Ah these players are championship level! Fergie would have struggled with this lot etc

Now do I think this squad is good enough to challenge for the PL or the CL? obviously not. But do I think it's a better squad than finishing 8th and losing at least 18 games in a season and being on course for the worst season in 35 years? Yeah.
