Ha,what? Arteta?
He’s actually basically correct. They finished 8th on 61 points with a +16 GD. We will likely not get to 61 points and will definitely not match that GD. So even though he struggled in his first months, it was still better than this United team.

That was his second overall and first full season as he joined in Dec 2019. It would probably be more fair to look at his second full season in which he got 69 points and 5th, also with a positive +13 goal difference.

If he goes to Bayern, you can be sure he’d deliver Kanes first trophies - in the bundesliga and likely the CL too. Meanwhile we would still be sat here calling for the manager to be sacked. Again. Whoever it is.
You have to be joking, you can be sure he’d win the CL?

Then we all wake up.
I think we may as well not ask teams to play CL games anymore because ETH will just do a full sweep for as long as he is there, winning it every single year and winning every game. Leverkusen’s unbeaten season will easily be matched but instead of just one he will go 4-5 years unbeaten.
Keep dreaming. Seriously your worship of this clown is just weird.
I see merit to keeping him on and seeing how it goes until the end of the 2024 calendar year and seeing if ETH improves things. And if it doesn’t work, usually a top manager usually becomes available in the first months of the season.

But 8th and no trophy is still possible. I can’t offer any excuses for him if that happens. It would be a disaster. It would mean over 18 months with no European football. He’d have to go
I think you’re probably right. He needs to win the cup.

I still think we should stick by him, unless an obvious no-brainer of a manager is suddenly available

I agree. The adversity he's faced this season is incredible. Close to 30 different back four constellations, injuries, RW rape allegations, braindead personal errors, diva behaviours, poor squad depth etc.

Expectations from some United supporters are wildly exaggerated.

We will lose the final and not qualify for the EL even. And some on here would still give him another season? What for, to fight for the EL places? To have us on 10th place by Christmas? Jesus christ :wenger:

He is a loser, had 2 seasons and gets worse by the month. We are going downhill. Yes, lets give him another year to waste. Pathetic

Absolutely nailed it,however looks like INEOS have bought into all of his reasons for failure this season

Indeed, it's gotten to the point where even Arteta early seasons look alright compared ours. Yet some of our fans still come up with excuses.
The facking Arsenal fans all wanted facking Arteta facking sacked, fams. But blud, look where man is now fams. They could win the league bro, and Arteta will be a hero innit.
Have some resolve, ETH will come good again.

Fair point, we shouldn't have given a relatively unproven manager the keys to the kingdom and let him direct our transfer business.

I can see why you say our squad isn't in a worse place vs 2 years ago. But I'm not sure if it is in a better place either. Now like 2 years ago it still needs a lot of investment, LB, CB (maybe 2), DM RW, ST at least needed this summer.
Yes we still need investment. We let about 8 players leave on a free and then also had many overpaid players to shift. We have signed about 7 permanent players of course we will still need investment and no club gets all of their transfers right (see the first forward and goal keeper signed by Pep at City)

The reason I say its in a better place is because we have actual pieces that are both valuable and a good age now. For instance even if we still need to sign a striker we do have a young striker with now a years PL experience who can be the backup. 2 years ago our only reliably fit striker was a 37 year old on 500k a week and the backup we know was never reliable and he still isn’t to this day that is a huge improvement to the squad profile in the striker position even if you don’t rate Hojlund. A backup at 21 who can score 15 goals in a season. Thats just an example of the reasoning.

I said likely. He went close with a well oiled Ajax team. Bayern is clearly a level or two higher than the Dutch team, so why wouldn’t he win it if he goes there?
He didn’t go close, did he. He got to a semi final with an Ajax team filled with great talent; he was then eliminated by Lucas Moura and Tottenham. Even the most ardent Ten Hag supporters wouldn’t argue he’s likely to win a tournament that the greatest manager in the world took half a decade to win, with a team accused of financial doping. A manager likely to win the most prestigious trophy in club football wouldn’t have us performing like we have, and sitting as low in the table as we are, with the talent available to him.

He got to a semifinal once. Beyond that he won two knockout ties in his entire Ajax spell, against Lille and Young Boys, and got knocked out by Nice, Rosenborg, Getafe, Roma and Benfica in his remaining attempts. He’s not some amazing European manager, his legend is built on two knockout ties against Juve and Real 5 years ago.

Jose and LVG got the same poor treatment here. And they won the CL. They too were expected to deliver despite having an average squad to work with. I don't understand the fans' expectations. You can make a pig wear makeup, but it's still a pig.

This would be like 2021 but worse. I badly wanted OGS sacked after that joke of a final performance and it was clear we were on a hiding to nothing, yet we just waited and threw another season in the bin. Things got so bad so quickly, that even we had to sack him early enough to allow us to qualify for the CL knock-outs at least.

We did the same this season with EtH after INEOS came in. If we moved for an interim, we would have got CL, as Villa might get it with <70 points or near enough. This basically means we just got worse, not that they got better this season.

Honestly, if INEOS fail to sack this liar, my already low expectations would go significantly lower. I cannot handle having to watch us try to salvage another hopeless start to a season.

The only hope I can see that INEOS should have plan ready and I expect come November when this disaster of a manager is still here to see Tuchel come in. But it might mean all the same tired annoying faces stay for another summer and I am done with the Rashfords of this world.

Agree to disagree. No manager in the world would've gotten us a top four position with this squad.
This is just an insane position considering the points we've dropped to the teams we've dropped. You've essentially been brainwashed by the bald liar.

Personally I would be absolutely staggered if Tuchel is even still on the market by November

Actually if some unfair penalty calls had gone our way and we had avoided collapsing so often, we would be up there. Even with all the injuries.

Nagelsmann was my first choice, but he committed to Germany already. I think if we wait, the options will run out.

For me we either give it to someone for 2 years, like Tuchel, he is not a long term option, but at least someone that would get us in the top 4. Or we go for a young exciting option, maybe a bit unproven, but at least someone to look forward to with an exciting brand of football. INEOS have to act and get someone they want according to their vision and project.

ETH is not it. He is a complete waste. Full of excuses and likes the talk, but on the pitch we are getting worse. He is clueless. Hopefully INEOS dont fall for his nonsense and give him another year. The likelihood of us going places with ETH are near 0 after 2 years. Managers dont suddenly turn to gold nowadays if you stick with them, you have it or dont. We all know ETH hasnt got it. What he has done this season respectively not is everything i need to know about his capabilities of managing a top club.

He is not Fergie and never will be even if some on here think time is needed to turn him into one. And the managers before him were neither and all showed that after leaving United.,

I could literally have written this post as I feel exactly the same about Nagelsmann as first choice, Tuchel doing a job for a couple of seasons and Erik never being Fergie in a million years

No he's not. He finished 8th twice and then 5th. He finished 8th. If we finish 8th then we can be on par.

Goal difference is secondary. I care for place and points. Let's see where we finish.

Thank you. Our disagreement centers around the expectations we have for our team. Player for player I don't think we're better than the teams we've lost to in recent months. By name, our club should beat most of them, but that was decades ago. We're Man Utd, but our players are not.

Indeed, it's gotten to the point where even Arteta early seasons look alright compared ours. Yet some of our fans still come up with excuses.
No it doesn't. Arteta didn't have a patch of comparable injuries and finished 8th.

Actually if some unfair penalty calls had gone our way and we had avoided collapsing so often, we would be up there. Even with all the injuries.

Brentford collapse should have been wake up call but no it led to same thing happening against Chelsea, scousers and nearly Coventry too

Sometimes I wish we could put an end to these constant Erik comparisons to early years of Fergie, Klopp and of course Arteta

I am getting another deja vu with OGS where Poch was clearly waiting for us to sack him and get the job. Then followed our awful start to 2020 and OGS gave that interview that he'd be successful here and we stared winning.

Poch then got the PSG job when it became clear United were too dumb to make the obvious move (although I don't really rate him like that).

I think Tuchel will wait, especially given the briefs coming out his camp he's keen on the job.

He won't go to Barcelona, PSG or go back to Bayern, so I think we're OK on that side but I really prefer to give him the summer.

My expectation is that if we were to sack him, it'd be on the day after the FA cup final should we lose it or a couple of days later if we win. If nothing comes out by 25th May, I assume he's staying because Ajax have also said they'd wait until early June.

Thank you! :)

I would take Alonso here over Ten Hag in a heartbeat.

But as he’s not available I’m unconvinced by the alternative names suggested. Given they are all coming off the back of largely unsuccessful seasons.

2.14 goals per game in the league since Jan.

CL not included as it was before that period anyway.

I’ve also said this before in this thread. If we’re arguing over .16 of a goal per game I’m not too worried about the strength of my argument here

Fully expecting Alonso to take Real job when he leaves Leverkusen or maybe even scousers if Slot has a really disastrous start which is very possible

You arent alone here. I’ve very mixed feelings on if he should stay or go

in fact until the Chelsea game 2 or so weeks ago I was firmly in wanting him to stay to see how he goes with a proper structure.
and I’m still kinda leaning that way.

He is a far better manager than what we have seen this season and you are exactly right this time next year or this time 2 years it will, in all likelihood be people calling for whoever the next manager is to be sacked.

Indeed, it's gotten to the point where even Arteta early seasons look alright compared ours. Yet some of our fans still come up with excuses.

Some of our fans have gone from taking the absolute piss out of Arteta for it, to holding it up as an example of a positive trajectory we're following. They were wrong then and they're wrong now. They only see it when it slaps them in the face and they can't escape the fact anymore.

So you want to keep him, but think we'll still be shit in two years anyway if we replace him? Why? Because you think every manager we hire has to inevitably turn out to be rubbish or self implode like Jose? Or do you just think we're going to be rubbish from here on out either way and you'd rather ETH be the face of this period? One day, we'll get ourselves a good manager, and it might not even be the fancied option, but at that point all of this will be forgotten about.

I actually think he can turn it around. It’s not a popular opinion around here so I don’t really post much in these threads

Gary would have been still keeping Moyes, if it was up to him. Thankfully, it isn't.

Yeah always remember when Scholes said we should keep Moyes in a post match interview after City beat us 3-0. The only thing he did right was putting in place a deal for Kroos, unfortunately LVG stupidly pulled the plug for some reason.
