Maybe he can turn it around but as it stands, regardless of who we sell and sign in the summer, I'll struggle to look forward to next season with ETH in charge.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to it either, don't see him being sacked after that PR interview. Has definitely swung the views of a couple of fan channels too who were waivering

I don't think they let him go on for so long because it was his first managerial role, I very much doubt that. The board believed in the project and resisted calls for him to be sacked from Arsenal fans for quite a while because they were committed to the rebuild and a reshape of the squad. It looks as if it's paying off very well now.

I will say though, in the case for dismissal, Newcastle are having a disappointing season but they're still capable of putting teams to the sword and have a much healthier goal difference. If we were on the same points as now but had shown signs throughout the season of some excellent attacking displays it would make the case for keeping him a fair bit stronger.
I was also impressed with Newcastle‘s performance today; I watched the first half.

I'll take that as a yes on both.

The weekly boom and bust cycle.
I liked his interview. So what?

I don't have to explain myself to anybody, nor do I like the condescension.

I couldn't care less what you think of my opinion buddy. You should try and get that into your head...

I never gave my opinion of your opinion but if you say so .

In honesty, I think that if they’re keeping him then renewing his contract makes more sense than not.

Going into the transfer market with Ten Hag only having 10 months left on his contract is very likely to deter players and their agents

If anything it should be the opposite.

Besides, there is an option for a further year.

The toxicity in this thread is getting ridiculous, and the bar was already at rock bottom. If you guys are going so far as to have a desire to goad and provoke one another, perhaps it's time to take a step back and consider what you're doing?

This season needs to end, sharpish; most of these exchanges are a chore to wheel scroll past. I don't know how there's time and energy to say the same things every day like updated NPC's.

What I do notice is that by the week, the thread is carrying darker overtones - you all realise you're here to support the same club, right?
I’ve not taken anything in the last few days the wrong way personally.

I think the more “negative” posters are doing so now as tongue in cheek as much as the more “positive” ones are.

As I’ve said before we all want United to win and be the best we just happen to disagree on the major cause of our current issues and how to go about fixing that.

I think we give him until January. If we start well he will get the contract. If we start poorly again he will get the boot. It’s a natural break in the season.
By then Ashworth should be in place, Berrada and Wilcox will be up to speed and between them will have a good idea of how ETH works and how effective he is. (There is more to this decision than simple results on the pitch) You’d think Brailsfords club audit will have reported back by then too.
Honestly I think this is the most pragmatic approach and I think Erik deserves the benefit of the doubt given all our issues this past season, and how well he did last season. It’s clear from that GNev interview he knows the issues and is conscious of results. Give the man time to work I say.

Wait till we play again..

In 2 days, the No numbers will go up again in the poll after the game, only to go down a couple of days later until the next game. Rinse repeat

I think ETH will have to give weekly interviews, his followers will love it. We can be shit on the pitch every week, his words count more than perfromances. The messiah has spoken, we all have to close our eyes and just believe in the genius.

That’s ridiculous though, given the football we have endured since 2013 with nothing but a few poxy lesser trophies to show for our efforts. Its the same problems time after time, firing the manager has never fixed the long term issue and it should be painfully obvious to ALL of us by now where the problem lies and what needs to be done about it. It isn’t the manager (in isolation).

We also don’t need to sign “Ten Hag” players under this new structure it can be what Wilcox sees as the style of play long term and who suits that best.

A far healthier approach which should make any future inevitable replacement far easier.

If we don’t see an improvement in the August- December period it will be pretty obvious and clear that a change is needed and that while injuries were a problem this season the manager may have been too.

Makes sense. Ralf did virtually zero coaching but was pretty good with words, and still has a loyal following to this day.

Louis' biggest mistake was not doing an interview with Gary Neville just before the cup final.

I’m in agreement with you that it’s well beyond the scope of the manager the issues our club has.

Hence me willing to give a little more time and patience.

But by no means is this Ten Hag is the messiah territory. I think he’s a good/very good coach in exceptionally challenging circumstances.

All our previous managers are pined after. It doesn’t matter how shitty the football was, how dull we were to watch or how many times we got embarrassed, there are still always posters how spout ‘bring back Jose!’ Or I miss LVG, or ‘Ole in!’ It’s beyond a joke. If we do part ways with Erik after the cup final give it a few months and you will have people pining to bring him back. “Erik was right, damnit!” :wenger:

Spurs stopped selling to rivals after Berbatov. Modric and Bale went to Real and Kane went to Bayern

Everyone knows this.

Back to where we were 2 years earlier. Top 4 has become a trophy at this stage.

People would have accepted 70 points this season and 3rd/4th with an improvement in performances and overall consistency.

The team is getting worse the longe ten Hag is in charge. Do you not see that?

We went out of The League Cup and Europe before Christmas. Reasonable schedule in 2024. The team has been more open and had less control of games since January. We've scored more goals, but are also conceding more shots on our goal. The tradeoff for a lack of control isn't worth the few extra goals. The team is conceding goals and we're fortunate not to have conceded more than we have. Brentford should have scored multiple goals.

If people are actually honest, they know that ten Hag has gotten away with murder this season. They just can't be assed admitting that the one manager we all wanted has been below par. The best coaches in the league regularly get the best of him. Even last season. I posted his h2h record the other day. It's grim.

Arteta was 37 when he took control of Arsenal. His first head coach role. There were going to be some growing pains. By the end of his 3rd season, he had figured it out. They had a poor squad that needed gutting. ten Hag inherited a much better group of players to work with. We hired a 52 year old manager with lots of experience. A season like this one shouldn't happen. Ever.

Top 4 should be possible next season. Newcastle and Chelsea will also be looking to improve though. So even if Villa do drop off, others will be looking to step in.

Totally agree

Yeah I agree here. Let the head coach do the coaching, have specialists designating our style of play and handling transfers. It will be a revelation!

Of course, I do believe he is culpable for certain aspects of this season and has questions to answer. But some posters wilful ignorance of just how big a shit storm our club is, is nothing short of incredible. How they can conclude that simply sacking the manager is the answer after the last 11 years is beyond me.
Even Klopp and Pep have made mistakes in their time in the PL. But like them, ETH strikes me as the kind of intelligent bloke who will learn from his mistakes and make sure he doesn’t repeat them.

I still think we should stick by him, unless an obvious no-brainer of a manager is suddenly available (definetely not Tuchel)

Our current setup is a bit of a disaster, it's not going to change fast, bringing in someone else is going to be costly and it's likely to be a slow start while we're re-organizing the structure of the club. Essentially, there's a big risk of failing from the go simply because of our structure, and if you fail from the get go it's likely that you'll get the sack sooner rather than later.

I believe both outperformed Ten Hag in their 2nd season.
Really? I could have sworn Arteta finished 8th in his first full season. He took over them half way through one season where they finished 8th and then finished 8th in his full season. And Klopp finished 8th followed by 4th so that doesn’t even beat ETH first season with a 3rd place finish and a trophy. Took klopp about 3 years to get silverware

Learn from his mistakes?
Like playing and sticking to the wide open midfield, chaotic style football since day 1 of this season. No matter who the opposition is. No matter which players are available. No matter what the score line is in game.

That would be a dream. Seriously. We won’t have to pay for gardening leave, he gets to go to Bayern and we get to watch him implode there. Can’t wait!
If he goes to Bayern, you can be sure he’d deliver Kanes first trophies - in the bundesliga and likely the CL too. Meanwhile we would still be sat here calling for the manager to be sacked. Again. Whoever it is.

Then we all wake up.

I think we may as well not ask teams to play CL games anymore because ETH will just do a full sweep for as long as he is there, winning it every single year and winning every game. Leverkusen’s unbeaten season will easily be matched but instead of just one he will go 4-5 years unbeaten.

Keep dreaming. Seriously your worship of this clown is just weird.

But how many did they have after the same amount of time ETH has been at this club?

Ten Hag - 39 wins in first 72 league matches
Klopp - 37 wins in first 72 league matches
Arteta - 34 wins in first 72 league matches

So he's not then? My opinion is a fair one.

He's started 7 PL games. We conceded 13 goals in them.
I said hes top 6 cbs in the league not lcbs.

Yes he started 7 PL games and was clearly still injured

I see merit to keeping him on and seeing how it goes until the end of the 2024 calendar year and seeing if ETH improves things. And if it doesn’t work, usually a top manager usually becomes available in the first months of the season.

But 8th and no trophy is still possible. I can’t offer any excuses for him if that happens. It would be a disaster. It would mean over 18 months with no European football. He’d have to go
